That is the most goosebumps I have had since Webley
It is also the most consequential performance since we were promoted, not because of 3 points but because:
1) we hatched a great, great plan and executed it with ruthless discipline in the face of a full strength Liverpool. Virgil didn't lose a duel that I saw, Konate was totally imperious, the midfield skill and control was up to their usual phenomenal standard. But it rarely looked like breaking us down.
2) our old players shone (Aina especially but also Murillo, Dominguez, CHO, Elanga, Yates)
3) our new players looked like utter ballers (Moreno especially, who totally OWNED Salah, but also Milenkovic, Anderson, JWP and [briefly] Silva)
The narrative of Salah having been off-form because of "international" travel (c'mon, Cairo to Botswana on a chartered flight is 7 hours, barely long enough to get out of a proper sized country, and IN THE SAME TIME ZONE, no jetlag). He was just OWNED by Moreno and Murillo, that's all.
This is a good squad of players. Probably only a top level goalkeeper and a good quick forward away from becoming a top half team.
First win since a Barry Lyons double in February 1969. Not even Brian Clough got a win there
I know people are unsure of Matz Sels in goal. We got a really good back four even with several choices now. But Matz Sels is also very good actually with ball handling in his feet. I would say one of the best in PL. Do we need that in a keeper? Idk… but it starts to make my head go into creative mood. How can we use a keeper with such good skills? lol. Forest feels like a very strong defence this season. Quick wingers. Promising
The fact that Matz Sels also in the time we’ve been through kicking the ball far up the pitch has been very smart intelligent football. The team was hanging the head low for a long time. Getting up on pitch was a mental problem. Matz helped us
Max & Mark.. Don't underestimate the work MGW put in nullifying Gravenberch which real helped nullify their midfield. Not a typical MGW on the ball performance but a good performance all the same 👍🏼
