  • I've been putting the Rapala X-Rap Magnums to the test and so far, they're great!! I've been consistently getting bites, but so far mostly trash fish. That only means they work. I have a few 20's and 30's that I'll be testing soon. I'm hoping to use one to score a wahoo.
In this video, I was using X-Rap Magnum 15 (15ft deep diver) in the Spotted Minnow and Dorado colors.
    Enjoy the video!!

Hey Justin, did you ever give the 30 size ones a go? I'm thinking about buying one to chase tuna

@@FloridaManJ Thanks for the info mate. Unfortunately the 15s and 20s aren't available in New Zealand where I live. Seem to only be the 30 and 40 ones on the market. There's also the CD range, and I was considering a 14cm or 16cm one of those, but not sure they'd be up to the test for a big bluefin tuna

Awesome! How fast do you troll? Do AJ'S hit it?

+SoFloKayakFishing wow, 5-6mph on a PA! That's fast! I'm looking at upgrading to a Hobie and want to troll with plugs rather than spending hours finding and catching bait. I asked about AJ'S because their close cousin over here on the west coast (california yellowtail ) is also an amberjack and I'm curious if they hit them and what's an ideal trolling speed. Rather than wrecks and reefs, our Jack's hang out in the kelp Forrest. Can't count how many I've lost in the kelp! Love the videos

+SoFloKayakFishing Lol, aren't we all anxious to get to the fishing grounds? !!! So about 2-4mph is your best trolling speeds? Seeing your video makes me want to get a few right now! !!!

I've got a Hobie Revo-16 and I'm up in NoCal, so here's some regional input, however I would really like to hear SoFlo's answers back to my observations because those PA's are really awesome boats.
As you know, the Pacific can get pretty rough, and from what I've seen, the PA-14 is not something I would take out in the ocean -- it's just too heavy to access most of our beaches/coastal access points other than ramps and it's also too slow on the water and presents too much windage profile up here near the SF Bay to be able to put to much safe use. I am almost exclusively a saltwater fisherman and I know only one other pedaler in NCKA.org that takes his out in the salt -- they are great for calm, flat freshwater, but a handful to manage on the sea. Unrigged, they check in close to 130 lbs, so this is not a boat for cartopping or remote access or solo carries anywhere other than someplace with a launch ramp.
My Revo-16 is about the fastest boat model on the water, and an honest max sustained speed for it in chop and swells is about 4.5 kog, which is plenty good for pulling one of the Rapala's. The Revo's are the narrowest model with the Mirage drive, and it seems great to me for punching out through waves, tracking straight, raw speed, and raw power (I've towed other kayaks for a couple of miles several times).
Suggestion: Any reputable dealer will offer you a test drive so you can try 'em before you buy it.
