He's keeping up the tradition of the old time honored Murder Ballad as did Johnny Cash with Delia's Gone.
This is real country/western. Classic story telling. He is going to be legendary.
Colter Himself said he was heavily inspired by Delta Blues and Folk of those sorts.
i dont mean to be so off topic but does anyone know of a trick to get back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid lost my login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Kohen Carlos Instablaster :)
@Chaim Payton I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im in the hacking process now.
Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Chaim Payton It worked and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much, you saved my ass !
They need to release this session its recorded better than the studio version
I wish this was the original studio version or at least that this version was on spotify.
Not gonna lie when I heard the song first I thought "this dude is either a really good songwriter, or this is a confession 😳"
This is the direction the fans actually wanted country music to go in. It only took a Canadian and a few decades to teach us how to play our own music.(They have rights to western history as well I believe.)
My sons turned me on to Colter. Fan for life. He def takes you on a journey
@DLilli Very cool that the boys turned daddy onto Colter. I'm seeing Colter next week here in Jersey, and am pumped.
@@RockN2Country How'd that concert go, did you get to meet him.
haha my daughter brought me to Colter!
You gotta do " the devil wears a suite and tie
On the list now---thanks for that, as Colter Wall is in-damn-credible.
@@RockN2Country EDM, Classical, Folk fan here. Can't wait for you to review DWaSaT. Hope you didn't crack the seal on it yet. ;-)
We saw Colter last week on Saltspring Island. Too bad the people in the hall were there to socialize with each other and talked over his performance. (!!!!)
@@RockN2Country did you ever react to his cter walls song cow poke ? It really shows how wide his singing talent is.
yeah, i had to look the lyrics up. It's written "For you DID murder Kate McCannon" in the first verse. It makes sense now but i had to read it.
Love the reaction and your honest approach to listening, 2 more incredible songs by Colter Wall are "Living on the Sand" and "Johnny Boy's Bones" - would love to hear you react to either of those!
Thank you, TN! I'll put those on the list. It's gonna be impossible to not react to his stuff, he's just so unique.
I first heard it at a time I could really relate (minus the murder) and it just played to my soul. Colter is an absolute warlock! Just outstanding talent.
Glad you have the part in parenthesis there. ;-)
@@RockN2Country haha yes couldn't very well leave that out 🤣
I am totally not a country music fan but this guy is great!! Love his music!
Such a great song.
A good ol Saskatchewan son. In Canada we are all neighbours.
Ballad of a Law Abiding Sophisticate is his best song. Starts off strong and only gets better as it goes on.
It's a great addition to all the murder ballads of folk country.
This is one of my favorite songs. This guy pics the guitar well! Check out Tyler Childers "Branded Clovis"
gosh like you , that was a shock!! awesome song by awesome young lookin singer - like you did not expect what ending was - it sounded angry and he portrayed it so well with his guitar playing - thats one good singer and song Don -liked that a lot pal xxxx
Right? I'll be paying more attention to hime because he is so different, so dramatic, so raw, that he totally ropes you into his songs.
A fellow Canadian. Im from Hamilton Ontario. I like his song called Saskatchewan in 1881 and his other song thirteen silver dollars live version. Love you’re show man, tuning in more and more. Love you’re take and outlook on things
Thank you Richard, and welcome aboard!! I just reacted to "Plain To See Plainsman" about two weeks ago, and it was blocked, most likely because the album was released last year. "Saskatchewan" is on the same album, so it would probably also be blocked. I'll wait for another opportunity to post the songs, perhaps in the not-so-distant future if I find a way to post them.
Two of my absolute faves of his (he's got a LOT of em)
Touche...
Good stuff man keep em coming.
The devil wears a suit and tie? My favorite song by his next to Saskatchewan in 1881
I just bought tix yesterday to see Colter in a small venue at the Jersey shore in six weeks. Gonna be a blast!!
Glad you like him, Don. Clearly Colter beats to his own drum... quite literally. :) Definitely worthy of a 9.1! Hope you get a chance to check out that Billy Strings song "While I'm Waiting Here". His talent will surprise you, for sure. You know I wouldn't BS you.
Billy Strings is a heluva talent.
ruclips.net/video/uNTWGQbgv8s/видео.html&start_radio=1
Based on the way he sang that first line, I think Billy spent some time on RUclips watching this version of Freeborn Man. ruclips.net/video/rVl1ibykWZU/видео.html
He calls himself a folk singer, he is awesome.
I love this song. This is the best I've heard in a long time
Makes me want to buy another guitar. This cat is awesome!!
Nice reaction!
He's awesome - truly his best song by far (then the video brings a whole lot of gritty emotion as well).
hahaha, yes, i was shocked tooo.. he is amazing
Love that song. I just came across your channel and I'm checking out these older ones. Thank you for putting them out. I'm going to look to see if you have done any White Buffalo. If not you gotta do Whistler and Wish it Were True. The Wistler is a real experience. And talking about an experience, are you familiar with Sean Rowe - Vincent Black Lightning? Wow what a ride.
this guy is amazing, on of my favorite songs is Cowpoke
@6wyocowboy Thanks for the recs on the two songs--I'll add them to my list and get to at least one of them, but please be patient with me since the list is kinda long. Thanks again, and welcome to the channel!
You got yourself another sub buddy. Yep!! Colter Wall....you seem to dig my kinda music! Ol' Colter... Awesome isn't he? I imagine getting a voice like that you gotta hang it in the smokehouse while soaked in Bourbon and chain-smoke a few truck tires...but damn does it work and this fella is an awesome artist!!
Exactly, Orion!!! And welcome to the club!!
Colter is phenomenal! Check out “Snake Mountain Blues” & “Bald Butte” two more Colter songs that defy easy description ... kids got a style truly his own!
Snake mountain blues is Townes' song
You have to listen to Colter's cover of "Bury me not on the lone prarie"
I tend to agree. Colter has a wonderful voice that oddly reminds me of Willy but definitely more baritone. Excellent lyrics. his covers are top notch too
He gives me a rougher edge older Steve Earle vibe. It might be a depressing night but I would like to see one of his live shows!
I would sign up for a live show of his in a heartbeat. You know it would be in a smallish place, so you'd see him up close and personal. Would be unforgettable, one way or another.
You really should check out 13 sivler dollars and the devil wears a suit and tie
He reminds me of Johnny Cash a lot
He reminds me of Townes Van Zandt in his story telling and does a few of his songs too. Snake Mountain Blues for example. Damn good Country Folk music.
You are reacting to the kinda music I most want to see people's take on.
Creek Sessions: Tyler Childers - Banded Clovis, please do a reaction when you can thank you
I'd love to see this.
Hell yes!
As Corb Lund puts it it's "Ag-Trag" agricultural tragic, or "West-Can" western Canadian
Thank you for the review and thanks for the shoutout hoss!
You're welcome, and thanks for the rec!! This dude is unreal.
When you get around to it, I'd love to see you react to Paul Cauthen - Still Drivin, Charley Crockett - Silver Dagger, Benjamin Tod - The Mountain, and Willie Watson - Mexican Cowboy. I think you'd love all these songs and they all have live videos on youtube.
Andrew Fleming Great requests. I love me some Willie Watson!
Amen, Colter Wall, awesome musick! Love Sleeping on the Blacktop too, Bless him Lord
Yeah, he hot! Amazing musick, love that drumming with his cowboy boot, yo diggity
TN Jet is a good one to check out too. One man show.
Catagory of ... Fermentation in the soil.. hahaha... yes! Very unique... beautiful guitar he has... Thanks Don and sub requester...
Just found your channel... really dig it. If you’re into Kate McCannon you gotta do Banded Clovis by Tyler Childers
Welcome aboard, Jeremy!
I think this or Blacktop may have been my first Colter Wall listen, and he's got soo many Great tracks, an amazing voice and so.very unique and incredible persona to him, seems soo Old in Country Music History. I always can't wait to see what else he's got in store for us next.
I'm sure you've got a list of artist recommendations as long as your street, but if I could recommend one or two that maybe others haven't yet, it'd be .. the lost dog Street band and their song War inside of Me off of their album weight of a trigger, or the song Using Again from Benjamin Tod (the husband part of Lost Dog) "Anthony Simpkins - Gems on VHS is responsible for a great portion of their videos" or another artist I'd suggest checking out is John Moreland (American Folk/Country) - You don't care for me enough to cry off of his High on Tulsa Heat album.
Keep up the Great work, awesome channel.
@Jason Ferguson Thanks for the kind words and recs! I've done three of John Moreland's songs, and here are the links:
"You Don't Care Enough For Me To Cry": ruclips.net/video/sDOPZktEFBM/видео.html
"Hang Me In the Tulsa County Stars": ruclips.net/video/ECXqTz25c9U/видео.html
"Heart's Too Heavy": ruclips.net/video/dIptBEagHsM/видео.html
@@RockN2Country I saw your, "you don't care review" .. I missed the other two. There are so many artists out there right now, .. way more "you really need to check this guy/lady out" kind of artists than I can ever recall before.
"I don't know what you call this..."
I call it great! 😂
You really need to do one with the music video for this song it will really help add to the story
I was about to recommend this song to you until I saw that you had already reviewed it
@Carlos Ramirez Glad I had it done already for you. :-)
Make Murder Ballads Great Again!
Thanks for doing this! That voice sure doesn't look like it should come out of him, and if memory serves he's only 21. If you decide to do more of him, I like Bald Butte. It tells a good story. Also, please do more Tyler Childers too! Born Again is probably my favorite song by him, but I've been digging Universal Sound lately. I still maintain I haven't heard a bad song from him.
If he's only 21, that's nuts. (Too lazy to check Wiki right now). I'll be getting to more Tyler in due course, no doubt.
@@RockN2Country, Colter was born in June 1995, so a ton of these live show are from when he was about 22. I know this only b/c I was shocked to find out his age when I looked him up in the last couple years. :) It's NUTS. He sounds wizened.
It's such a blast when artists like this seem to appear out of the blue, and are so damn good. I'm seeing hime tomorrow night here in Jersey at a small club, and am psyched beyond belief. I hope to meet him, but even if not, I get to see him along his path as an artist.@@detectivekornfed
@@RockN2Country, exciting! Colter is supposed to have a concert in my area in August, but he's appearing with some other band on the ticket. Please keep us posted how the concert is, and if you get to meet him! :)
Colt is legendary!
Classic murder Ballard.
Might be time for some Steve Earle. Tom Ames Prayer is a good one.
If you want to hear a different take on the murder ballad, try Gillian Welch, Caleb Meyer.
Another unique song you might like, Tim O'Brien, Mick Ryan's Lament, which is narrated by a ghost.
check out Sierra ferrell her voice was also quite astonishing to me at first hear like colters. Not much music out there of her though just a few youtube videos
One thing you have all missed......he is just 21 in this show. Experienced him and his band in Athens Ontario with 100 others in a beautiful old theater in Sept./18. "Caroline" is the finest of his all, along with "Codeine Dream". I am old and unhappy for most of you shall experience him at his finest which is yet to come. I might miss the ultimate of this already great writer.
Hey Darryl, welcome to the fam, my friend! As for missing that he's young, I'm pretty sure I mentioned that in a couple of his vids I've reacted to already. It's one of those things that is mind-blowing that someone is that talented and intriguing at the young age.
The raven never lies...
Hypeman here on 2 fb
I looked this guy up & he was influenced by The Man in Black- Johnny Cash. I could hear him singing. Sunday Morning Going Down. He's awesome.
Makes sense when you see Colter sing.
It's a Love Song!
I would say alt. Country folk. Certainly nothing that mainstream radio will play but sure does draw you in with the story.
That's a good descriptor, though not sure if it would catch on. Ha!
I agree. That's their loss.
BS Detector you got that right country music radio has no idea the amount of alt country they missing out on. It’s really a disgrace to the artist
Please take a look at shacky graves he is so good ps I just subscribed and I like your channel so far
Codey Moore Yaaaaasssss! Shakey!!! Late July it Dearly Departed!!
Shakey is a total badass
Chris Knight’s Down the River is a wonderful, deep story song.
This is what i miss in most modern country. Colter is telling stories like hes reading a book
@Joe Hubbard Very well put about sounding like reading a book! I'm gonna use that once in a while. :-)
@@RockN2Country glad i could add to the library 😂😂
Sleeping on the Blacktop is another great one
He's great. First time I heard that boy reminded me of old Appalachian murder ballads like Omie Wise or Pretty Polly. The funny thing is, he ain't even from down in a holler, he's from Canada, yet he uses the right phrasing such as "a-courtin' ".
Don't know why the character in the song is in jail, ought be free., just good old fashioned Scots-Irish justice.
I'm guessing Canada has hollers, no?
@@RockN2Country I'm sure they do, but their dialect probably doesn't use "holler", "a-courtin" or the phrasing of "You did murder Kate McCannon". I'm glad he's not afraid to use Southern speech patterns when nowadays most folks are just blackguarding us, and Southern culture.
That way of speaking is old not southern per say.
@@redfox106jf Correct, not Southern, but Southern Appalachian.
The dude is beyond ridiculous.
100% fact right there, @Jason Smoot.
DARK song, gives me goose bumps. You should review me and big Dave the brewery sessions.
Do a reaction video on willie watson-gallows pole, do the session video
Just try newer songs, too. You'll see how he has evolved. And I'm not saying this was bad and the latest album is good, cause they're all good, but you can definitely hear the difference in how he "feels" what he writes. Btw, I'm going to see him for the second time next month, he's a nice dude, too ;)
Hey Gioele, let us know how the concert goes!!
I'd love for you to check out the white buffalo - i got you
Murder ballads Hell yes
Mule Skinner blues HELL YE
I don't even LIKE country, this dude called me home. Speedy Creek does it right!
You should do keep the wolves away by uncle lucies
@Wesley Hopkins Welcome to the channel! As for Uncle Lucius, I did that one quite a while ago. Here's the link-- enjoy! ruclips.net/video/rXMp1t_S5Z8/видео.html
A Chris Knight fan? I’d love to know if he is. Regardless, Colter Wall is on my “listen to” list
I know this is a review from 2018 BUT, if you really want to REACT and RATE Colter wall, review is version of Robert Johnson (in the first person) of selling his soul to the devil for talent... WOW.. I think you and your audience will find it spell binding...
You should check out Shakey Graves Late July
"Living on the sands" is colter wall's best song.
Matter of opinion, but it's definitely in my top three.
lets get some sturgill simpson next
Bob Fudge-Colter
Never seen your reactions or channel before but if you like this check out some Chris Knight if you haven't already. Maybe The live version of North Dakota or Down the River
Welcome aboard, William, and thanks for the recs!
The Raven convinces him he didn't do it
Can you do Livin On the Sand by colter? would greatly appreciate it. i think youd like it!!
@Victor M. Haney Thanks for the suggestion, and I'll be getting to more of Colter's songs as time progresses. I've done a few of his songs, and also had one blocked a while back, so it depends on when the song was released. But I'll put it on the list and see what happens! Also, welcome to the channel!!
@@RockN2Country sounds good!! It a from his first album. Love your content. Keep up the solid work and thanks for the welcome
@Victor M. Haney Thanks for the info on the song, and you're welcome for the welcome---ha!
Colter wall 13 silver dollar’s 👍
Check out Tyler Childers and The Dead South
Personally, I don’t agree that it’s his best song. My two favorites are Bald Butte and transcendent rambling railroad blues. Although, all of his songs are so great it’s hard to pick.
@Winston Churchill Yeah, when I saw him a few months ago here in New Jersey, whenever the crowd was yelling out songs they wanted to hear, you could always hear someone yelling "Bald Butte!!" If you have a chance to see him, he's totally worth it. definitely an experience. And BTW, welcome to the channel!!
I know his kind of music to be refered to as Gothic Western
@Dastardly Deer That description makes total sense--thanks for that, as I'd never heard that before.
Are u lost ???🤔 colter wall is the shit I love this guy
That had to be the weirdest song I ever enjoyed. It went from awful to quite good. His voice much like the Johnny Cash voice on his death bed with songs like Hurt or Rusty cage. Waylon had his Destiny's Child, I think Colter just might be Satan's Child.
Plot twist!
@Anthony Henry, right? That was nuts.
@@RockN2Country So... Short story....i work offshore as an engine hand. I introduced my young 3rd engineer from mass maritime to this tune on a long and boring sea watch. He looked at me and said; plot twist! He never saw it coming friend.
He was paying attention, since there's no way to see that kind of turn of events in a song. When I saw you write "plot twist," I burst out loud, and also said to myself, "damn, that was perfectly put." I'm a word-nerd and realized that there was no way to improve upon that, so kudos to your 3rd engineer for capturing it perfectly!
@@RockN2Country 3rd engineer lets call him boston johnny is one of the best young dudes I've ever worked with. Twenty year age difference. Fom working at dunkin donuts to in charge of a seagoing power plant. Mostly on his own. never met the kid before 5 months of maritime hell together. It gives me a hell of a lot of pride in our next generation friend.
@@RockN2Country if you never heard into the mystic by van morrison.... When we thought we might die at sea.... That's where my mind went.
I would watch a reaction to Tyler Childers if you made a video ! Keep your nose to the grindstone !
It's already on the list---stay tuned!!
Its Prairie Country. Haha
Bob fudge is the one to watch
prison country. Cash country. He was 19 at the time.
really like this dudes voice but damn. some fresh strings would do wonders for his sound. least thats my opinion.
@Always Late Productions, I'm seeing Colter in two weeks so I'll see if he's got a new set. :-) As an aside, your screen name would make a great name for an obstetrician's medical practice!!
@@RockN2Country haha my screen name is actually inspired by lefty frizzell's "always late".
Bro just say it you know you want to "it's not country its blues!"
check out WHITEY MORGAN & THE 78S (what am I supposed to do) new subscriber sorry if you've already checked him out
This song seems like it couldn't be more than a minute long because it sucks you in so quickly.
@John Laws Well put about Colter's songs and stories he tells--you blink, and it's the end of the movie. Also, welcome to the channel!!
It’s called a “murder ballad”
Check out Aaron Lewis
If you really want to hear what he can do with his voice, check out Colter's Version of Billy Joe Shaver's "Ride Me Down Easy". So raw. I've been listening to that song since my dad used to play it when I was a kid. Waylon did it. After you hear Colter Wall's, everybody else just sounds kinda silly.
That sounds incredible. It's on the list now. Thanks for the rec, Dinka Boutit!
This isn’t his best song haha, really good one though.
You should check out bald butte by him
Not his best song yes it's good but seems like it's missing a bit at the end
Just call it "damn good music" ;)
