It seems like Georgie never got any support or empathy when his dad died. He was automatically expected to step into the role of father, with no one realizing he was young and also grieving

It was kind of like that when my parents got a divorced. I was 19, mom was over come with the years of my father's infidelity that she tried not to see. It was hard and I didn't have a new baby. Georgie I can relate to the most. He stood up to be a teenage father and trying fill his dad's shoes. Honestly, she was hateful for the majority of show to George. She doesn't improve on how she treats her children.

@@ErlkingFreakcliff , I think he harbored that one for years before his father pasted. Just like Missy, they were treated as the back of the line to Sheldon.
His lack of any emotion or even seemed care his dad was gone, just cemented both their anger at Sheldon. Missy also had her own feelings about not telling her dad how much she loved him and her anger at her mom for always putting her dad down and now is totally crying that he was gone. She became hyper sensitive about anything that was her dad's being taken away. Poor Georgie promised his dad he had this and did his best to do so.

Mary's never been a good Mom.
      Or a good wife.
Or a good person for that matter.
GOOD Moms instinctually know how to control themselves - especially in front of their kids and ESPECIALLY when their kids need them to remain calm.
Mary's never cared about anyone else.
Just like here... she's more focused on getting what she wants, when she wants ut, HOW she wants it, than being there for her kids.
So she decides to force them into a serious religious commitment.
Sorry but you can't force someone into a serious religious commitment. That should be between you and your God.
That should NEVER be done on someone else's time table.
      At someone else's whim.
      Heck, Sheldon doesn't even believe.
So what good does she think that's gonna do?
She may as well Baptise a Tree!
But uts what MARY WANTS so all else be da**ed. 🙄🙄🙄

Didn’t Mary turn to religion after Missy survived the birth complication? I definitely agree that she coddles Sheldon and Georgie and Missy aren’t treated nearly as well. But Mary’s unwavering commitment to religion is a byproduct of her love for Missy. And there was only one time where Mary was having troubles with her faith, which it was Sheldon who helped restore that faith. Any parent would be scared of that. Missy and George were street smart. They could communicate, so marry didn't have to worry that theyd get bullied and hurt by older students.
Yes she over did it and forgot that her other children, despite being more capable, still needed her and I think the show does a wonderful job of showing each characters flaws. I loved my dad. And when he died, it just took the light out of my life. Somebody asked me how I’d managed to cope so well, and I looked at them like they’d turned green. Coped so well? I listed to his heart stop when the cancer killed him. Silence is the worst sound in the world when you have a stethoscope on the chest of someone you love. Coped well? I kept my mom’s power on, the mortgage paid, water and sewer, dealt with the death certificate and getting things moved into mom’s name. I went to the grocery store, the mailbox, and work. Mowed the grass, trimmed the yard, put food in front of mom. Coped? All I wanted to do was curl up in a ball and cry, but I didn’t have anyone to lean on. It’s amazing how your friends disappear when you’ve moved home to look after your dying dad. People act like I had a choice. I didn’t. And nobody asked if I was okay, and I wasn’t. I feel ya, Georgie. Hugs from one first born to another.

So, it helps them a tiny bit. Mary was grieving loudly and hysterically but had almost no strength to give to her children. She left them in the wilderness. And then the ridiculous demand for baptism was obnoxious. Sheldon only did it to humor her.

I think a lot of people diss Mary's belief but take it from her perspective. She's worried about her childrens soul and its horrible when your panicked and everyone treats it as if you are being silly. Its real to her, she's trying to help her children.

even if christianity were right, her children are not gonna die tomorrow, but they are hurting today. if she's worried about their "soul" and not about their grieving process, she IS being silly. irrespective of her faith.

I don't think the issue was her beliefs.. No one told to stop praying for them.. But when everybody was grieving, she almost didn't bother about or care to even ask her kids how they were doing after losing their father.. All were hurt nd they needed to be there for each other.. Mary could have patiently nd lovingly spoken to them nd explained to them why it means so much to her instead of just forcing it on them nd then getting upset nd abandoning them when they said no! Yes she's falling apart nd it hurts more if your kids speak like that but her just leaving them there without even talking to them properly nd forcing her beliefs on them didn't help either!

@@quibble9003 measure it up. Her husband just died so the concept of the afterlife has become all the more real. She's not trying to ignore them intentionally throughout the episode she makes attempts but she's drowning in her own grief. She wants her children to have saved souls and wants it done quickly because as I just said death has become more real to her. Saving your children's souls vs their emotions isn't a hard one to choose from.
I don't even believe in Christianity but Mary is trying her best and doing what she believes will save her kids. Death is unpredictable and sudden. Never assume your safe from it. George had a normal day before dropping dead.

@@Sanj193 I'm talking about the comments calling her selfish and stuff. They ignore what she was praying for...her children. They ignore why she wants the baptism...to save her children. They aren't very nuanced or understanding of a woman who dealing with grief which can make you act out. You can't control how you react to grief, she threw herself into religion.

@@Markus2E5I6 damn right, soul vs grief is not a hard choice. it should be grief 100% of the time. is that not what your argument is asking of her kids; to prioritize mary's griefing? how can you ask that for mary yet write off her failure in prioritizing her children's griefing? what a hypocrite.
