      Yup. I hadn't played Battletech since mid-clan invasion by that point, and had skipped Mechwarrior 3. It was quite a shock. I was a FedCom player back in the day.

    The Fed Comm civil war is what you get when you supply one faction with too much plot armour

    I kinda wish the Federated Commonwealth had more time to develop as a narrative... But Katherine was speedrunning for Worst Ever, so we couldn't have a BT cold war.

    What a wild ride. Alas, a shame that Kathrine didn't get ganked when the chamce was there. Without her, the FedCom might still be up and kicking.
    Been blitzing through these, and this really helps get a better idea of the many factions that are running about. Thank you.

    Just discovered this channel, I recently got back into BattleTech after years away and have been catching up on lore old and new.
    I particularly liked the Wars of Reaving video. I haven't came across much actual detail that era for the Home Clans (I admit to only skimming the Sarna article as it felt rather dry), so it was very informative. As a long time loyal Ice Hellion, I would love to learn more details about the formation and current date activities of the Scorpion Empire. I may be biased but I think they're doing a microcosm of an actually successful Clan led Star League. The Raven Alliance has a similar thing going on, but the Scorpion's have pulled in some rather disparate groups of elite PTSD warriors, refugees, hotheads, space larpers, and backwater robber barons into a more or less smoothly operated, technologically advanced nation. I also have yet to come across any mention of the Scorpions' response to the announcement of Alaric's Star League Scouts and that whole IlClan deal.
    Anyway, I love the content, take your time as needed but please keep making more. I've subscribed and look forward to what comes. Thank you, sir.

    Always nice to see the cutscenes of our childhoods/teen years getting an upscale! Never got to play Vengeance, but I did play MW4: Mercs.
    Hope you're doing well today Madcat 529!

    Glad to see the series continue! I'm 46 & started playing MW2 in '97 & I still get chills anytime I hear the music & especially see the cutscenes so seeing the one from MW4 was really cool. I'm also reading through the novels chronologically & am early in the Civil War & am now really interested in reading Trial Under Fire. Hope to see you get more content out evennif it's shorter but more frequently. Keep up the good work!

    Battletech/Mechwarrior and Warhammer have some of the best and deepest lore behind them. Stories of victory, stories of vengeance, tragedy, sorrow, hope. And to me at least, it all feels “real”.

      @voidofhope6259 my God is lore standards as low as they are to think BT/MechWarrior is amazingly deep complex lore, it's not it's like a constant fan fiction and that's not saying it isn't fun or anything it's just horrible when it comes to structured writing and often things happen "Just because it would be cool" that ain't good lore BUT IT KICKS LORD OF THE RINGS ASS AND THATS ALLLLLL THAT MATTERS! ^_^
      But the weaboo level of writing is cringe at best and plain illogical at worst but none of that matters, because we really find it fun and as long as it's fun then you're doing it right! That's what my ex told me at least 🙄 shouldve known she was lying

    Great lore video. Just have a small correction, Tiaret Nevversan, Victor’s Elemental bodyguard, survived the Civil War.

    • @Madcat529
      @Madcat529  8 месяцев назад +1

      The book dealing with that scene said she died. Checking Sarna it seems to be unclear but the phrase "Dispatched Tiaret with his needler" lends credence to death.
      Appreciate the correction regardless how that turned out, but my sources point to what I said in the video :)
      Edit: I would prefer the outcome where Tiaret survives, because i despise the Joker's existence as a character in BT.

    While I love the Mech 4 intro, the game itself is my least favorite of the franchise. I don’t really include MW5 as I see it as an MWO copy-paste. All that aside great video man!

      @@schaddenkorp6977 MW4 being least fav. I get the copy/paste comparison but when you have the models already done for the modern art style, why do it again.

      @@Madcat529 MW3 is my fav as well. MW4 had a fun story, the missions were interesting, the urban fighting was topknotch, and of course Solaris VII with Duncan Fischer (if we’re including the expansions), but 4’s ‘redesigns’ were kinda ick (really did not like the Vulture/Mad Dog look) and it was also responsible for introducing the whole “only this weapon type can go here” crap to the mech lab which was totally unwarranted given the freedom of customization available in all the previous installments of the franchise.
      As for MW5 and MWO? Well one costs you money and the other you can play for free. MW5 clearly has very lazy game design and imo seems to have been released in an attempt to ride the coattails of the Battletech pc game’s popularity and pull in the MW fans that MWO left disillusioned after they said they’d deliver a simulator experience, but settled on making it into a twitch-shooter. Honestly I’d rather talk more about everything I loved about MW3, MW5 and MWO just depress me.

    • @Madcat529
      @Madcat529  9 месяцев назад +1

      @@schaddenkorp6977 I have to disagree on MW5. At launch I'd say it was not quite ready but as it is now, it's one hell of a Mechwarrior game.
      HBS Battletech stands alone in its own release and does so proudly, but I'd say MW5 was only made possible because of HBSs game. It breathed life back into the franchise and happened to be well timed with the table top renaissance launched by CGL and the Clan Invasion Kickstarter.
      Connected they are, but not in the ways you mention. :)
