I had the same issue when I moved my family into a new rental. When one moves a lot for work you learn to adapt - knowing it’s temporary. This “guest” began by dissing the dated bathroom & moved on to declare our bookshelves were too dark for our living room. I asked when he was going to paint them for us. 😂 Critique silenced.
@@BenitaLarsson cant you just change the whole switch system...It might always be at the back of your mind even if you dont often use the lights, think it might be worth changing it up if you can so it stops bugging you! That would be the kind of thing that would annoy me so I completely get you! The flat is beautiful and spacious, I like how you've kept so much of the previous furniture and just repurposed it/are using some pieces in different areas etc Thanks for sharing it with us!
I have something similar for my lights. But just like your system Benita, my system is also somewhat unpredictable and only seems to work when it feels like it !!! Hmm
When we first moved into our house the bedroom light was on the same switch as the ceiling fans. If you turned off the lights you turned off the fans. It was summer and hot so we needed the fans to sleep so every night I had to climb on the bed to unscrew the lightbulbs so I could turn off the light. It was a joyous day when we finally got that fixed.
We recently found (were found by) a stray cat who is a dead ringer for your tuxedo. He even has that little side moustache white mark. He is on the couch with me right now, looking fat and happy, apparently adjusting very well to his new indoor life and really enjoying his new human servants. Your apartment is lovely and the neighborhood looks fantastic.

You've just given me the info I needed to tell my landlord (I'm a renter) why I don't want a smart lighting system. Here in NYC they're becoming the rage but I personally don't want to have excessive technology throughout my apartment because I have no interest in making my living space more complicated than it needs to be. We have the Phillips Hue system and uses an internet connection with a Wi-Fi router to communicate to the individual lightbulbs with voice or programming. Otherwise turning the switch on and off works as well. It’s been awesome! Especially the color bulbs and dimming options. The one in this apartment sounds like an absolute nightmare.
An all white kitchen, with a light grey marble counter top, like in your last apartment will look great! I can see how frustrating it must be to keep wiping those mat cabines. Also about the electricals! Once you have all this settled, you place will be awesome.
I'll try to save the existing counter top because I really like it but there are no guarantees that it won't break when they take the kitchen apart. Fingers crossed!

I'm so glad you mentioned the ill fitting kitchen. It was bugging me too, haha. I really wish we had the large light switches in Australia. Ours are tiny, only one finger fits on the surface. Looking forward to the upcoming changes. So sweet to see Bonus getting cuddles.
Oh Benita that’s exactly why my husband and I are avoiding the Canadian version of a smart phone- security & lights plus heating all depends on the internet which goes out occasionally and always unexpectedly!!! PS the white kitchen will be lovely!
I know what you mean, my friend’s home in Canada is all on an app for the heating, so he can put the heat down and up when he is away and have it just right when he comes home. I just can’t get used to computerized switches. My old apartment I live in still has a fuse box, no breakers. But I am renting so hope change on that coming in the future

I like the feature of a hidden exhaust fan and love the decorative crown moldings and the medallions around the ceiling lights - they add character. White cabinetry in the kitchen will make a big difference with the ambiance and like you I would also take it apart and redo; so true that once you see it you can't be unseen❤ Your new home is looking rather welcoming already!

The lighting situation would drive me nuts too, I don't mind the rant! We recently were invited by friends who had connected LEDs in their flat and the lightning was so awful it made me feel sick. I just could not wait to get home to my warm and indirect lights. And to think they want entire houses and appliances connected - good grief! Progress does not always mean better.

I like your new kitchen ideas. I always thought I wouldn't like a smart house, I'd rather just do things manually. Now I know for sure that it's more trouble than it's worth! I used to like the idea of a matt kitchen, but after seeing how much light they absorb, maybe not. Your floors are so pretty, and the high ceilings make the space seem open and comfortable.

Most interesting. It always takes some time of living in a new home to work out what needs updating or changing of leaving as it is. To live in your old stomping grounds is wonderful and being so much closer to family and friends is so important and very exciting to be able to get out daily and just wander about in the city. The cat is going to be so happy to be able to get outside when the weather improves and you have the cattio in place as I am sure it misses its dear friend. I hope you have a wonderful day. 🙂

Thanks Benita, I think your apartment is absolutely gorgeous. There are always things we want to change and the light situation is really very necessary.
I love the look of your place. In the US old building often just means lead paint and heat that doesn't work lol. But that lighting system is a monument to garbage engineering. Can't even turn on lights without an app that sometimes doesn't work? Wow.
About the (smart) lighting situation - Ikea has plenty of smart light bulbs on offer and they have switches as well. Their switches are battery powered and not wall mounted, but you can just stick them next to your regular switches and they'll work like a charm. You could even remove the current switches and replace them with dummy covers and stick Ikea switches on top of that, so guest avoid the confusion. I would also recommend Xiaomi. They dont have as many bulbs, but they do have additional sensors you can set up, like motion or light sensors. Those can be helpful in situations like turning the night light when they sense you step out of bed at 3am. Or the sensors detect that its getting too dark in the room during the day and turn on the lights where needed. Like Ikea, they also have those portable switches that you can program to switch lights or set up additional functions. Looking forward to see how you go about this and also looking forward to seing the new kitchen when its done.
I loved this video. You are being honest. When I moved into my renovated 1979 home I found switches to no where. Very frustating. Every place we move into has issues. You will have your kitchen looking fine and perfect for you soon. LOVE your kitty...he is adorable.

Argh internet controlled lights would drive me nuts! So much stuff is internet controlled these days and I always try to avoid, especially because I'm always losing my phone. And what happens if the lights are off and you can't find your phone because it's dark? So strange having to push lots of buttons on a device, when light switches already have a button! Hope you can get a standard lighting system.

I actually love the soft light and darker colours! I live in the tropics with harsh bright light much of the time, and I love seeing gentle grey landscapes and interiors.
With our long winters I need as much brightness as I can get 😅

The lighting situation would drive me nuts too, I don't mind the rant! We recently were invited by friends who had connected LEDs in their flat and the lightning was so awful it made me feel sick. I just could not wait to get home to my warm and indirect lights. And to think they want entire houses and appliances connected - good grief! Progress does not always mean better.

It adds depth and character into a lighter apartment, also the color is very natural, as If you’re in the forest! 🌳 works well with all the wood furniture you have. I used to love white everything, but I’m so sick of it personally, so I enjoyed your new videos, that were a bit more contrasty.

I like your new kitchen ideas. I always thought I wouldn't like a smart house, I'd rather just do things manually. Now I know for sure that it's more trouble than it's worth! I used to like the idea of a matt kitchen, but after seeing how much light they absorb, maybe not. Your floors are so pretty, and the high ceilings make the space seem open and comfortable.

Most interesting. It always takes some time of living in a new home to work out what needs updating or changing of leaving as it is. To live in your old stomping grounds is wonderful and being so much closer to family and friends is so important and very exciting to be able to get out daily and just wander about in the city.
The cat is going to be so happy to be able to get outside when the weather improves and you have the cattio in place as I am sure it misses its dear friend. I hope you have a wonderful day. 🙂

I love the look of your place. In the US old building often just means lead paint and heat that doesn't work lol. But that lighting system is a monument to garbage engineering. Can't even turn on lights without an app that sometimes doesn't work? Wow.
About the (smart) lighting situation - Ikea has plenty of smart light bulbs on offer and they have switches as well. Their switches are battery powered and not wall mounted, but you can just stick them next to your regular switches and they'll work like a charm. You could even remove the current switches and replace them with dummy covers and stick Ikea switches on top of that, so guest avoid the confusion.
I would also recommend Xiaomi. They dont have as many bulbs, but they do have additional sensors you can set up, like motion or light sensors. Those can be helpful in situations like turning the night light when they sense you step out of bed at 3am. Or the sensors detect that its getting too dark in the room during the day and turn on the lights where needed. Like Ikea, they also have those portable switches that you can program to switch lights or set up additional functions.

I loved this video. You are being honest. When I moved into my renovated 1979 home I found switches to no where. Very frustating. Every place we move into has issues. You will have your kitchen looking fine and perfect for you soon. LOVE your kitty...he is adorable.

Argh internet controlled lights would drive me nuts! So much stuff is internet controlled these days and I always try to avoid, especially because I'm always losing my phone. And what happens if the lights are off and you can't find your phone because it's dark? So strange having to push lots of buttons on a device, when light switches already have a button! Hope you can get a standard lighting system.
