Islam is a LOT bigger than Ilia. Ilia normal weight is around 170, true, but Islam is around 180-185, and when it comes to wrestling, it means a lot, especially since both guys are very skilled, the significant weight difference would have a lot of impact.
Don’t know if Illia has the size to go up to lightweight and fight with those beasts up there, personally I think he could even be champ and people can have very different opinions on this but no one can deny WE WOULD ALL LOVE TO SEE ILLIA SCRAPING WITH THE LIGHTWEIGHTS. Ilia v charles is a baddass fight. If ilia can win that in fashion then he definitely deserves the title shot against islam no doubt. Ilila does have left overs on his resume peoppe may question. Volk wasnt the same after getting blitz by islam, then he beats max who was drained like crazy and also wartorn. Charles was easily beaten and stopped by islam when he was the most dangerous and had the most momentum but its still a great welcome fight at LW

The only problem for Ilia at LW are Charles and Islam due to their BJJ and ground game, that too only if they keep it on the ground. A striking game with Ilia would most probably end up in a KO victory for Ilia

@ Lots of ppl have backgrounds in grappling/wrestling but couldn’t do sht against Islam. Davi Ramos is literally a BJJ world champion, Armin Tsarukyan is a freestyle wrestler and a NAGA champion.
If you think Illia would beat Oliveira you’d be surprised. Illia hasn’t fought anyone with as much dynamic striking or power as Oliveira. The last person he fought with somewhat dynamic striking was Jai Herbert and he lost consciousness for a second from a head kick. Guys like Holloway, Volk, and Emmet are primarily just boxers with a couple leg kicks here and there. Oliveira mixes it up with knees, teep kicks, head kicks, elbows, knees in the clinch, take downs, etc.

If Ilia can stop Islam’s TDs, he has a chance. Dustin stopped it mostly and it was a war until the end. So, anyone who can stop Islam’s TDs has a chance of winning in theory and we know how good Ilia’s boxing is. The question is, can Ilia stop TDs to keep it as a striking match?

Islam wasn’t trying to takedown Dustin more than he should be.. he kept is standing up most of the time. Ilia cannot do what he did to Volk or max.. Islam has more than just striking his clinch game, tie collar and knee and legs are too much for ilia .. I see every time ilia tries to close in, he will end up in a clinch position and eat a lot of knees or takedowns.. his skills aren’t even close to Islam .. not even close..
