When you read about Cedric’s conflicts with Scientology, the cult aspects of The Bedlam in Goliath take on a new meaning

One of the greatest bands af all time.

What I've read is that the band originally thought that the curse would stop once they finished the album, but things got so bad that Omar had enough, took the board (which I've also read being called a spirit board) out to the dessert, snapped it in half over his knee, and buried it. Cedric and Omar agreed to never disclose the location of the remains of the board. As far as I know, the curse ended then.

Oh. Well maybe the curse stopped after finishing the album or tour in support of the album.

@@PillClinton Of course it was bigger than his knee, did you mean it was longer than his arm span so he couldn't have held it and smashed it over his knee? Just how big do you think it was?

I did a video essay explaining the alleged curse revolving around the album a few years ago, and it was a very fun video to write about. You did a great job explaining the album and its story! Great work!!

I am super skeptical when it comes to these sorts of things, I don't believe at all that they were cursed or speaking to demons, but I think it's a cool story regardless and even cooler that they took this weird experience and turned it into an album. While I love The Mars Volta, this is an album that never fully clicked for me, I am not sure what it is about it either, maybe one of these days it will suddenly land on my ear the right way. Either way I loved your breakdown of the story, I always appreciate the work you do in these videos!

God damn, this was a VERY interesting interpretation of the story. I think this one might be my favorite one so far that I’ve heard. I’m really glad that someone on RUclips finally decided to share their own vision of TBIG’s narrative. Good shit.

If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure that the new self-titled album is also technically a concept album, it's specifically about Cedric dealing with Scientology.

The refrain in Goliath “Never heard a man speak like this man before…” is a reference to a song a woman wrote about Charles Manson.

I just discovered the story about this album and its nuts xD I don't really believe in this type of stuff, but when someone really believes in spirits and such they might really think something it's haunting them when everything is in their heads. I think Cedric has a family that practises Santeria, for what I saw in another videos, and they also included some rythms inside the album for ending the curse. They just had some bad luck I guess, some people believe it's marketing... Thanks a lot for sharing, I was very curious about the background of this album since I love these kind of stories, I am a big Mars Volta fan. I also love Coheed, glad to see the merch behind you! Cheers :D Sorry if I made mistakes btw, English isn't my mother language.
