Remission and especially Leviathan my number 1 Mastodon cuz that's when I discovered them and with that debut EP Lifesblood y know. I can't find my footing with latter albums.. Blood Mountain and Hunter's alright...

I don't really care what others think. But for me it's always been relevant that you only have ONE metal vest that represents your life. Having 2 or 3 battle vests is posing. A battle vest represents you, your music, and your life. And we all only have one life, so we only have one battle vest. How you design it and how you deal with it is up to you. There are no rules about which bands or genres have to be on it or fit together. And there are also no rules about what else has to be on it (political symbols, nicknames, football clubs, slogans...). And yes, you should have sewn on the patches YOURSELF. Otherwise you might as well order a battle vest online.

These guys said all that around this album just to paint a picture, I don't believe everything they claimed happened at the time really happened at all, perhaps there are some small parts that are true, yes, but truely exaggerated them on purpose

I could argue that prog metal has made a permanent mark on my character. It definitely forced me to open up my mind and think outside the box a lot, its something akin to people experiencing psychedelics even though i have never touched anything except alcohol in my life. Prog has also made me appreciate all kinds of other genres and their unique beauties, not just metal. The music is like a hearth on a cold snowy day most of the time, a place that feels like home to me.

I don't even dress like a typical metalhead. I just dress in all black. Random black tees and shorts. And my friend's neighbors that is also her relatives still comment about how I dress. They said I dress like a boy. I'm kinda new to metal maybe like 1 year? Idk. But I didn't explore much bands. Just listening to my comfort bands like metallica and avenged sevenfold. I don't really want to tell anyone that I'm into metal because of this. I mean, I mainly listen to like those mainstream bands. I do listen to other bands that normies doesn't usually listen to (rob zombie, alcest, several iron maiden and megadeth songs). I enjoyed mgla these days. But I can't say I'm a fan of the band. Just casual listener. My playlist is mostly just 1-2 songs from different bands from different metal subgenres. I haven't been to a concert because I'm not doing well financially and I live in southeast asia. I don't know if I would enjoy a metal concert or not especially the moshpit. It looks too extreme lol. It doesn't help that I hate crowded places irl 😭

I'm making a horror movie vest, and I have a section dedicated to my close friends favorite horror movies. I may not like them, but it's kinda like carrying a piece of them with me.

I also just realized that this album's journey reminds me a lot of Coheed's after man: long treacherous journey for loved one ends in betrayal (Not exactly a unique storyline, but a parallel I happened to make)

I highly recommend everyone read the book. Even the "technical" chapters. It's a masterpiece. Great job breaking it down!

Watching this two years later and it's still so helpful! I don't mind crowds but I don't like being crowded, if that makes sense. So I don't usually go to concerts because giant venues make me uncomfortable. I do adore seeing my "niche" metal groups because the venues are smaller. I also don't want to look like a poser because I am not purely a metalhead (Spotify tells me Kpop and Power Metal are my top genres, lol). The one thing I learned is YOU CAN WEAR ANYTHING. No one truly cares if you 'look' the part. I saw Blind Guardian back in 2016 and there was a guy in a Pink Power Ranger onesie. Wear whatever you want. Just be respectful of the venues rules and of your fellow concert-goers.

I’ve been a fan of them for about a year and a half, just got out of my first long term relationship a couple months ago and have been absolutely enveloped by this band. To hear all your thoughts on the story of the music and band have really given me a new perspective and I can’t listen to their music the same again. I can’t stop listening to them. Thanks for the fantastic content!

Roger Waters' solo concept albums--usually but not always--involve a protagonist having all of these preconceptions about everything and everyone and he's constantly complaining and judging everyone around him. Then some climatic event happens which causes him to completely reorient his worldview. This type of Watersian concept album was definitely noticed during his time in Pink Floyd with albums from "Animals" to "The FInal Cut." In the case of 'Hitch-Hiking," it involves the protagonist's disillusioned marriage and imagining idealized relationships--which end disastrously. The climatic event happens when he's kicked out of the truck. He then comes to a realization that he doesn't need any other relationship beside his wife. I liked "4:50" for its juxtaposition. It's supposed to be this calm song, but you start picking up the ominous undertone and realize that something is about to happen the moment Waters exclaims "We hacked down some trees!" Also, I can clearly imagine all of the church ladies dropping their jaws upon first hearing "4:41 AM" hit the airwaves.

"Mother Superior" is pretty much every man's song, since we all also have an addiction and that condescending voice in our head calling us a "little baby" and telling us "When you're sick to the stomach, just pull out the knife."

Going to my first concert (Korn) in a week. I get pretty bad anxiety, so would there be any tips for that? Does the music sort of just drown all that out once you’re there?
