Never heard of this guy before, but wow, he's sharp! He comes across as fair, objective, and deeply sincere. Incredibly articulate. Very impressed. He has the talent to be a national radio star, but I suspect his honest take here will poison the well against him. I hope not. I'd really enjoy listening to this guy more if I could.
You'll like this guy if you like common sense and well-studied sports facts. One of his best moments is a 2006 18-minute tirade against MSU regarding their choke job against Notre Dame. As a Spartan, I immediately became a fan that day.
Mike Valenti, your 16 minute monolog is spot on, and ought to be embraced on a national level. I, and others around the country, share your disappointment and disgust with what we are witnessing today, that being baseless, reckless, hype-fueled rampages brought on by news organizations on both the left and right. Thanks for standing up by going against the grain.
I have lost total repect for espn every College has it's problems. I agree with you Mike, and I believe Coach Izzo, and Coach Dantonio are very good men.
No question the timing of the ESPN piece was opportunistic, optimized for views. Also ESPN probably trying to stick it to MSU for withholding all the reports, only giving them up after being sued. Yes ESPN is repackaging old news too and trying to fit a narrative. However on the other hand, all the individual instances, when put together, look more like the narrative (a culture problem) now than ever before. I don't know if there is or isn't a problem but I understand both points of view. If it were truly just a hitpiece, and there was no culture problem, why did Hollis resign? An honest question. Edit: Also ESPN said they uncovered instances that were not publicly known previously. Not sure if that's true or not. So, not just repackaged old news.
IN my opinion, I was very disappointed that Hollis retired. I think after the investigation plays out, he will be exonerated. Conversely, his retiring plays to the narrative that there was a cultural cover up involving these cases at MSU. Unfortunately we will have to wait until the comprehensive investigation is completed and that is something that a lot of people cannot tolerate these days. Namely patience.
eric lundberg are you assuming that everyone is 100% innocent? Dantonio has already lied once. He said they had never had any players deal with sexual assault last year. Now he’s saying he always dealt with authorities for EVERY instance of assault?
Randy Randerson Don’t be naive. He was speaking in reference to the charges that were brought to the four players. Which, prior to that, had never occurred in the program. Accusations have occurred, yes, but never criminal charges. So no, Dantonio didn’t lie.
Excuse me? He said it was new territory for the program. So I took that meaning one way but all of you, who have never spoken to him, know exactly what he meant in those words? So you guys can find the meaning in ambiguous statements but no one else can? You guys are so blinded by your relationship with the university, more specifically, the athletic program.
Someone needs to go after ESPN, OTL, Bob Ley, and the rest of them. You package that hit piece with 1 persons opinions, some of it from third person, has to have consequences for garbage journalism from a dying entity.
But...it isn't "lies"...they covered stuff that did factually happen, accusations were made and police were brought in with interviews from the accusers. The problem is ESPN didn't cover what the LAW/police decided. The Payne / Appling case was from 2010 and MUST have been solved, but what happened? The girl drop the charges? No proof... The fact that it happened isn't a lie, so there is nothing to go after. It is just a hit piece because they COULD do it, that is why he kept calling them TMZ...there is no proof that Izzo did anything, but they run it because it gets them clicks. Basically, they try to run Izzo's name through the mud for a buck.
curtieson the girl who accused Payne and Appling was get this, expelled from another state University for false claims of rape, and had false reported before that incident occurred.. think that ever was investigated by ESPN... Nope.
Love this Mike. Like you, I'm highly disappointed in MSU's handling of the entire Nassar situation. As it's related to all of this extra Izzo and Dantonio stuff, I'm also looking for concrete evidence to either convict or exonerate them. I don't need the ESPN "info," I need the Attorney General's findings. In the meantime, I remain skeptical of all parties, but am certainly not ready to burn it all down based on the current info presented.
You're right on all counts Mike. And I think you are currently alone in the press. But rest assured, you are not alone among your listeners, and neither are any survivors of sexual assault -- not from Nassar's training room; not from MSU; not from anywhere. We're with you despite ESPN's yellow journalism effort to dislocate our focus. We love you. You are ours. You are NOT valuable only as an object of sexual gratification. You are intrinsically wonderful in and of yourself. And you are NOT victims -- you are survivors, and by surviving you have proven you are strong. And if you can use our help, and are OK with letting us help, we will help you put this behind you for good.
Michigan State - MolesterStateU Enablers even though u are completely wrong. Should msu also shut down the baseball hockey track and other sports teams. No you people who have no evidence yet want to shut down the two programs that people actually care about. You buy into cnn fake shit this ain’t news dog Mark Dantonio kicks guys off the team all the damn time look at last year
I’m not a MSU fan but I watch the OTL special on Friday and I was disturbed by the lack of factual evidence in the reporting but thought MSU seem not to handle things well. I was still bothered by the reporting because I guess I was expecting more. Never heard this guy before but he articulated everything I felt after watching OTL. Hope the truth comes out whatever it is.
I agree 💯! I will no longer go to espn for my sports news. If Dantonio and/or Izzo are found to have done nothing wrong, I hope they sue the hell out of espn!
Mikey, I've been a Spartan since about 05-06. Did not go there, but have lived around the community, supported the school and have loved them since I began following college sports in my late teens. Nassar aside, I want the problems fixed. But attacking others without credibility or proof is zombie/bloodlust like behavior and I won't stand for this crap. Spartans Will Overcome
Tigersfan829 I don't have a problem with those who don't attend. But I have a problem with those who claim to support any school yet have zero association with said school outside of football.
ESPN also cost Walton and Payne their jobs and career. You're going to tell me that when the Clippers G-League team had no idea of someones background history before hiring them? good one.
Johnny Paxton they both were found innocent those were allegations. Do you know the difference between an allegation or being proven guilty of something.
First thing I thought when I saw the show, fucking hit piece. Restating old accusations as new is baffling. ESPN was never intended to be a real journalist driven company. They have no one who will sit and say nope, nope that's not new that stuff has already been dealt with. The only reason they let this report go is for their own benefit. They saw a chance to look like hero's. What they've really done is take advantage of a monster who destroyed lives. Sadly in today's world no one will stand up and say how disgusting ESPN is for this smear campaign. With everyone afraid to stand up for what's right this will be responsible for the down fall of good men. No one will want to look unsympathetic towards sex assult victims. Fucking trash reporting at it's best
I generally agree with what you're saying here. BUT - Given how some of the complaints about Nasser were investigated and "handled", it is reasonable to revisit those older cases to see if they were "handled" in a similar manner. The way ESPN broaches these older cases is NOT the way you do that.
Attic Hatch Sound Exactly, and I don't think anyone would disagree. So long as we allow the evidence from said revisiting to be what determines their guilt.
It was some of his players involvement so you don't supposed to know about your basketball team some if tom players was involved go pull it up you can Google it it's right there
people calling mike a homer or saying "if this happened at u of m he'd be calling for harbaugh's head" really don't listen to his show, nor are you even listening to what he is saying here. trying to paint a bad picture of guys like izzo or dantonio without any proof or evidence is exactly whats wrong with our society today
If this is such a cover up maybe Bill schuette should look into the state prosecutors for accepting a plea deal for littering. If you’re looking to blame someone be sure to Look everywhere!

This is an important time to discuss rape and sexual assault. More than just an opportunity, we have an obligation to talk about it. If we really want to support survivors, we have to make sure this never happens again. And to make sure this never happens again, we have to understand how it happens in the first place. I get that this is difficult and uncomfortable for people who have to choose between two narratives - there is a bitter ex-employee who is out to make a name for herself, or there is a systemic problem of violence that is deeply entrenched and reinforced. I’d like to believe the first one too. But anyone who works with survivors or is a survivor knows that the second one is actually more realistic. Once Upon a Time, I really enjoyed ESPN. But they are losing me one step at a time. 30 for 30 is usually good, but Wild Accusations vs Famous Names is garbage. "Show us the facts" is right on! They attack Izzo and Dantonio, but what about the History Prof or Custodian who is part of this "cover up?" Not a famous name, that's why no "reports."
10 Bux Crusaders Payne said she wanted Appling to stop but he kept going because he Appling wanted to finish. That's an admission of A at least being an accomplice to the assault. When a woman says stop you don't after that's it's an assault.
Nah. There was no evidence that an assault even occurred, the DA's office didn't even press charges (even going so far as to say "No crime was committed" in their findings), and Payne didn't even admit to anything. Kicking 2 players off the team because they made a girl feel "uncomfortable" during consensual sex would be pretty fucking stupid and not exactly what I'd call justice.
Says the same school who has a statue that empower it as well. Screw those big ten fans. Sure there's other big ten schoolsthay ate doing the same thing right now.
Cuz dantonio decline to talk this happened for 25 years at Michigan State people getting molested if you Tom Izzo you can't say I didn't know for 20 years you knew nothing about it
Fred Jackson How is the basketball coach supposed to know what goes in with the gymnastics program? Are you kidding? This school has 50,000 plus students. How is Tom or Mark responsible for know what doctors in completely different sports are doing? They have enough of their own staff and athletes to keep track of. Really, not expected that they should know.
here we go sister school got fucking fucked on espn,, you forgot the scam 5 of Michigan. Stick up for for little sister school everyone should lose their degress and be banned for 10 years period raping kids like 6 years olds what the fucking fuck is that shit
joe smith Here we have a guy who would like to see innocent people get in trouble so his football team can stop getting owned on the field. It's pathetic man. Keep praying that it happens. Your football team will be mediocre either way.

Every weekday, 2-6. You’ll find him through 97.1 The Ticket on the TuneIn app.
Bravo Mike!!! You are telling the whole truth on this situation!!!
You'll like this guy if you like common sense and well-studied sports facts. One of his best moments is a 2006 18-minute tirade against MSU regarding their choke job against Notre Dame. As a Spartan, I immediately became a fan that day.
Perfectly said Mike!

And they rape the men also so sad little sister is done bye bye bye kudos to ESPN, if this Michigan you assholes wanted us all gone
Well said.
You aren't alone Mike. There are a few people who form opinions based on rational principles left. Not a lot of us...but we are here.
Well said Mike V. 👍. Excellent narrative. Thank you!
Thank you sir for speaking the truth !!!! Espn should loose media credentials for this bullsh##
Very well said. Ill point people to this video for how I feel.
Thank you ! You're not alone !
This needs to go viral ASAP!
Thank you for the TRUTH MIKE! Only fact-based journalist these days. Please keep grilling ESPN and make sure the nation knows.

I've said it similarly, but not as perfectly. I will now link anyone who asks about this subject to this video. Bravo Mike.
With u mike 100
I have lost total repect for espn every College has it's problems. I agree with you Mike, and I believe Coach Izzo, and Coach Dantonio are very good men.
Thank you sir! The timing was absolute bolonga. Next question....who is behind it?
Fucking NAILED IT Mike!!! Well said.
People don't understand the difference between accused, and convicted
Fired up Man No they don't....and it scares the shit out of me. This is how innocent people go to prison.

Oh god. He didn't go to MSU but he cheers for them? You're not allowed to do that. STFU
Well according to most MSU fans he's not allowed, always bringing up "but did you even go there?" when their argument isn't working well.
Tigersfan829 I don't have a problem with those who don't attend. But I have a problem with those who claim to support any school yet have zero association with said school outside of football.

ESPN is a joke
I STAND WITH ESPN AN OTL IM GLAD THEY BROKE THE STORE TIME FOR A FUCKING CHANGE
I see no evidence or facts against Coach Izzo, and Coach Dantonio prove it if its true sick of the accusations get real.
Hey where’s the pride before the fall
mike valenti is the lavar ball of Detroit sports radio.
Pride comes before the fall
Adam Fitch That phrase will be gone next year when Dantonio is shit canned so have fun
Johnny Paxton um yeah I'm making fun of Mark fool
Adam Fitch LMAOOO
Adam Fitch you mad cuz he was right? Boo hoo can't seem to beat MSU OR win a bowl game you didn't deserve to be in. NEXT! 😂👌🏻
Jamie Everett Beating MSU won't be hard for much longer 😂 Both coaches getting shit canned 😭SUICIDE WATCH OR NAH?
All you have to do is look at Payne's interview with campus police. Even if no charges filled those two should have been shown the door.
10 Bux Crusaders wow. Keep telling yourself that. Don’t believe the girl I guess.

Ya and then they're called racist.
Scott Lowman. Not by me.
If it’s old news does that mean it is null and void? Does it mean that the victims who were wronged and sued the school are lying or are delusional?
This guy should be forced to allow his daughters in a room for 5 minutes with Nassar, DAntonio, and Izzo. LOL
every fan in the Big ten knows MSU is dirty

See this is the problem. Too many mental midgets weighing in on this. You think a story is evidence.
Thats almost a sentence...
Ok with that same logic - that means all the female coaches in the athletic department should be fired too! And they knew too! # them too
ESPN is right your wrong Mr Dicknose Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey, goodbye defend little sister school some more
joe smith L
*you're. Clearly a Walmart wolverine with that grammar. NEXT!
