Thanks for this video. Threw the tension pulley a few days before Christmas, no way I was getting a mechanic to fix it, popped on youtube to see if I could find an easy to do instructional. You were it, picked up the part for $40... Took 20 minutes to install, done. Super video.. I have a 95 Ford F150 5.0L V8... This saved my tail, thanks!!!
IF YOUR SPRING POPS OFF THE TAB WHILE INSTALLING- This is supposed to happen, they don’t show in the video but when about 3/4 of the way tight, the tensioner spring will jump off the tensioner tab and snug itself onto the metal on the block. The spring will then sit slightly crooked which is normal, when uninstalling the tensioner the bolt should come first then you should have to wiggle the part off, not sure why it went so smooth in this video. If the spring doesn’t compress and (pop) then there would be no way for the tensioner to actually fit snug against the block and line up with the other pulleys.

Thanks for the video. Changed the part out the day it broke. My truck made it home. The pulley locked up and melted off on my road. Didn’t overheat it or kill the truck battery
Excellent.. Thank you for the knowledge.. Wasn't sure , if i would have to take half the tree off to replace the tensioner..Glad to know i don't have to now..
Some one bypassed the heated intake, I had to do the same on mine, guess the intake has freeze caps and they go bad. Battery was coated in antifreeze in mine when they went.
What does the belt tensioner bolt into? Is it a bracket? If so what is its name? I need that bracket, been calling it a belt tensioner bracket qith minimal luck locating the part.
+PhatJay The spring doesn't get compressed on the belt tensioner. You would need to release the tension when installing it. Here is a link to them on our website. www.1aauto.com/1A/SerpentineBeltTensioner/Ford/F150-Truck/1AEBT00010?RUclips&CTA+Comment&Vv4Q3as29o
It's called a serpentine belt tensioner. We carry the one seen on this video on our website with FREE SHIPPING in the lower 48 states. Here's a link to them on our website if you need one. www.1aauto.com/1A/SerpentineBeltTensioner/Ford/F150-Truck/1AEBT00010?VideoReply&VideoReply&ATony
So when installing the new tensioner, the spring gets "pushed" off the bracket at the top (slides down under it) with the hook end still looped around the corner. I am assuming thisbis suppose to happen? Tensioner appears crooked after completely installed...and, sure enough, kicks the belt off when started? Any ideas?
@Rakish Touch I don't think the replacement part has a notch on it to retain the spring as it's being installed to the motor. There is a RUclips video about it.
I was installing the tensioner like that and heard the spring pop off 3/4 into tightening? The part the spring sits on the engine side sits back more than than the curved tab and the spring is popped off from it sitting past it. How could it stay on? It is a 95 351w in a Bronco
Honestly dont bother just getting the pulley. I was torqueing it down and the bolt snapped. I was under the ftlbs it recommended so i wasnt even tight enough. But if u do want to take it off and try it Its right to loosen and left to tighten it i recomend putting the wrench off to the left and pull up if that makes sense to loosen it i found it way easier.
Hello! I have a question, I have a 91 bronco with a 351 Windsor engine I have not ran it for a year it just sat. I started it today and it makes a deafening squeal that is non stop. It NEVER made any squealing up to this point I put belt dressing on and that did nothing I sprayed PB Blaster on all the pulleys that did not help. It is so loud I cant tell where it is coming from. So my question is how do I know if it is the belt Tensioner pulley? I took the belt off to see if it may be the alt. But it is not that because it spins freely. I did notice after using the PB blaster and starting it and letting it run for a min when I shut it off the blaster spray was smoking on the pulley that is on the thing right below the Alt. could that be what is making all the noise? and why did it just now start doing it from sitting a year? I would be grateful for any help! THANKS!!
Okay, so the first thing you'll want to do is actually pull the belt, tensioner, and even the alternator too. The belt needs to be replaced. It's probably squealing because it's gotten old after sitting for a year, that's totally normal. Additionally, I'd replace the tensioners too if you never have before. Just for good measure. Oil is actually the opposite of what you want on those tensioners, so the PB Blaster was a mistake. The reason being that when you get oil on the belt, pulleys, or tensioner then it causes the belt to slip, which is exactly what's happening to make the noise in the first place haha The pulleys could spin freely when you spin them by hand, but it's possible that the bearings are still worn out. So I'd pull it all apart, clean the pulleys and tensioners with brake clean to remove all the oil, and replace the belt with a new one. If that doesn't do the trick, replace the tensioners and pulleys. And if that finally doesn't solve it, replace the alternator. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com?RUclips&CTA%20Comment&ATony 866-403-3393
1A Auto Parts Thanks for the reply! Today I found out what was happening my Air compressor unit for the smog froze up. When I was using the PB blaster I was careful not to get it on the belt I used STP belt dressing for that. I hope I can get the compressor unfroze I plan on working on it today. Some moisture must have gotten in there somehow from it sitting because never had an issue with noise before. That is actually how I found the problem was from the spray on the unit it started to smoke st that pointed me to the problem when I started it today. I will let you know if i get it unfroze! THANKS AGAIN! :)
Keep a spare tensioner pully on hand. These things like to suddenly break, especially the mounting bolt. I check mine regularly with the belt off and replace it every few years, regardless. Stick to OEM part. Aftermarket tensioners are crap.
@@1AAuto i figured out what was wrong with the part i got, the spring was not on the notch on the end of the part so it could slide over the tab on the block, and this was after i returned it, seems it slide down under the notch, making the spring lean and crooked. cheap parts suck. but i coulda made it work using a screw driver to slide the sping on it, maybe. lesson learned. also i am dealing with a truck that the previous owner did a " smog" pump delete so i have to figure out what belt and possibly buy a slightly bigger pulley for the tensioner which is frustrating. Very expensive to replace what he pulled off.
Thank you very much I had this problem today I was trying to take the bolt off to bowling not tension I see what I got to do now 5 stars this was very helpful
I COULD NOT figure out the damn belt configuration...even with the diagram. I just took the freaking fan and shroud OFF. Lots of extra work, but I got it .

What are the torque specs for the t50 part???
Great video but somebody need to clean the battery terminals on that truck

I have the same issue, notice they didn't respond to you. How did you resolve this?
Same issue 94 f150
My T50 bolt won't go past the pulley without hitting it. I had to take it off and it's left hand thread.
hello I just replaced my serpentine belt and now my belt is SHREDDED! I too have just replaced the alternator too. need help.
I'm too cheap to change the whole tension or how do I get the pulley off? Is it right hand threaded?
