This has gotta be my Favorite Gundam in IBO, i really liked the Knight Based Design on it, unfortunately the HG IBO Gundam Frame can get soggy as a overcooked spaghetti
If the frame wasn't so flawed, this kit would be amazing. Even despite the frame's usual troubles, I still think this kit is good. It's just a hassle to pose without tightening most of the joints.
The frame is fine for this kit, it's just the arms that need the assistance, which Bandai didn't provide despite doing so for the Rex, which worked well
This is what makes your review is always fun to watch. You treat them more than just OOB reviews. Must be taking much of your time to repaint this (not mentioning lightning buster, too) despite your educational study. Really appreciate that! This just sold me to get the kit
I'm out of education ATM, but there was a lot that's pre-recorded before I've moved out of dorms. I'm happy you like all the work that's put into the videos though, thank you
This thing did not skip leg day at all but man out of the box the color separation is not that good. I thought it would be good because I noticed that there were some spots where you could have some yellow parts in but nope you still have to use a s*** ton of stickers. And even without the stickers the coloring is just off like you need to go full all out to make it look anime accurate. Overall this is a meh kit on all fronts and not even the cool super robot wars attack of a drill kick is enough to make a buy worth it. Good job overall!
Glad you liked the video, but I am with you in how it's a meh kit held back by sub-par parts separation and anemic colors. I'd have recommended it more had it got the colors down, then it'd have some presence
Do you have a hg kampfer in your backlog? A review of it with your level of detail would be nice, and it'd fit the theme of the recent reviews on older gunpla
I wonder how the Gundam frame kits would fare with the shoulder polycaps replaced with polystyrene parts? They’re common in 30 Minutes Missions kits, since they don’t use typical polycap parts, but do use standard shoulder engineering. Lupus Rex uses improved polycap-free shoulders, and to good effect.
To be fair, the Lupus Rex joints on my older copy from release ended up like a biscuit after years of display, so it isn't really a perfect solution in the long run, or that's just my beginner faults showing on that kit. But have these IBO kits with heavier weapons had the polystyrene joints, they'd be a lot more enjoyable right out of the box
@@mj2005gundam 2 of 9 yeah, tho im doubtful they will do sone of the remaining ones. I just want to grab some bayonets for some Reginlazes without having to pay £35 before shipping... (also salty since even the Pbandai variant doesnt just throw one in)
I wonder why there are quite many cases where the lineart and the gunpla final product have quite major color differences? Did they change their mind when the anime/gunpla release or it was just miscommunication?
Someone told me part of the reason why is due to how plastic molding isn't like using the dropper tool in a sketchbook software. But there also might be cases of internal miscommunication or something that caused the colors to go off. IDK, I'm not too knowledgeable on how corporate conference rooms and injection molding work.
I went back and watched one of your video’s from a year ago, and saw that the RG 00 Qan[T] Full Saber got a “Recommended”, despite the fact that the original RG 00 Qan[T] you also reviewed before, got a “Suit Yourself,” literally the only difference the two was the GN Sword IV Full Saber, and that GN Drive sticking out
Correct. The shield movement isn't as relied on in the Full Saber, and there's the modular GN Sword IV to mess with on top of the standard loadout. The main issue that docked the standard kit was the shield loosening up extremely quickly, and the reliance on said movement in spite of the issue
Thanks. I've only just developed a new-found appreciation for it thanks to the other Seven Stars, and it being implied that the Kimaris Vidar is the original form.
IBO went about cutting costs in the wrong ways. At least the kits still look great with a bit of effort, and that they've paved the way for what we have today
Ah yes, the good times when we thought the Seven Stars Sigils are hints for their respective gundam frames. Good times. Still, Kimaris is honestly one of my favourite gundam frames. Most probably due to my over obsession with purple. Also, the mohawk helmet of the Kimaris(Calamity War) does bring light to a seahorse-like feel to the gundan frame, but it could just be me.
Those were the days. I still need to make an updated theory to round off the series and address the developments. Though your perspective on the Kimaris Vidar is indeed interesting, as I've never associated this with a sea creature before.
I derived my paints from the manual and my own experiences from art class in the past. But the manual does guide you in a good direction if you wanna repaint this kit.
I wasn't initially a fan of this Gundam mostly because of how the dark legs seem to clash with the overall color scheme. While I admit that painting it made it a tad bit better, IDK, but the black legs still look jarring to me; despite knowing the lore behind it.
Maybe the legs are from an actual horse mech before being transplanted? Who knows? Jokes aside, I can understand that the sudden change in design language is a bit jarring to look at.
@@mj2005gundam I like each design. Im just not sure why they did that. If it was either all the upper half or all the lower half's design it would probably get more points from me
A key thing for handling a giant lance is to hook the weapon-handle slightly underneath the side-rib part only to counter the weapon weight. I guess you already done that at near the end clip though. 😁😁
All ibo Gundam frames kits suffer from the same problem/issue. Some more some less. Now for other mobile suit the graze and its predecessor Gairail and that predecessor the Valkriya frame kits are solid because they use the same frame kit. But now for the other mobile suit like the rodi and Hugo frame idk because I don’t own them. Though that more of the fact that they’re aren’t reprinted for a while. The main issue is that Bandai have these kits with heavy and big weapons and used poly caps which will eventually sagged. Now for modern hg kit tech may at first fix the problem because most kits are plastic on plastic but Bandai ain’t going to do that because money.
Bu I'm still disappointed coz the drill knee bit only included one instead of 2. It's better to have 2 to have a spare or make a devastating attack pose with those 😅
It's in the backlog. I'm just thinking if you'd wanna see it without the typical unbox (i.e. my Turn X review), or if I should buy another copy just to be comprehensive
Love this design so much, the knee-drill is wild. Great vid as usual fam. And why the word "redux" is there :v I thought the kit was just called kimaris vidar?
I have a bias towards the original forms of the Gundam Frames, but the handling issues are more than palpable on this kit. Plus, who decided that those stock colors were a good idea? Even when the Vidar has the wrong colors, it still at least resembles the design colors instead of being someone's botched idea of a custom paint job.

my biggest issue is the weird tiny thighs
That's why its need extra love and effort to keep the frame strong as new
It's a dumb design
It's more unfortunate that Bandai didn't play to the limitations of the frame, or reinforce it with something like what they did with the Rex
IBO is such a wild story in pretty much all regards, including quite unique gundam and mobile suit frames.
NIce work on the final painted one!

I love it when a mecha has subarms to hold the shields.
Allows both hands to hold weapons for dual wielding without losing any defenses.
PS, came back to check on this comment cause for some reason, my comments keep getting deleted on other YT vids for some reason.
On a similar note, that's why I love hand-free weapons, because they can be deployed at a moment's notice while looking cool.
Which would you recommend more for someone buying now: Kimairis Trooper or Kimairis Vidar?
Trooper, 100%. It has support for the heavy weapons, looks regal, and has a unique semi-transformation.
This was the 2nd kit i ever got! Unfortunately it's now in the scrap bin...buuut i did use its lance for a weapon
It can definitely turn into scrap at the hands of playful beginners. But I'm glad you've repurposed parts of it for something else

Totally agree
This kit would look so much better with a different xolor scheme
I think a sharper purple is the least that should be done
Whoah, it looks SO MUCH BETTER in the correct colors
I know, right?

Glad you liked the video and paint job. For paints, I just followed the color guide, while using purple, blue, and red for fine-tuning.

The Trooper is the centaur. The Kimaris Vidar is just a space-use unit with black legs, which reference the horse of the demon

It had no feet to bind. Foot binding is a lot more terrifying than the Kimaris Vidar feet design
Man, this model kit could have been perfected if the plastic colour was accurate and a few part seperation :(
It won't have been due to the weight issues, but it'd be a hell of a lot better compared to what we've got
