Upper Room, can you please explain to me what what does Scandal of Grace mean? I read the lyrics to the song but I’m confused as to why is the word scandal associated with God’s Grace.
Cindy, I think what is meant is that the fact that Jesus,was crucified! Our Savior, the Redeemer, the one is was sent to set us free, was crucified for all of us! The one who was without sin, broke all our conceptions by being obedient to his death. Gave his own blood, for us! That’s the scandal! For shame! But it was him following the will of his father, to redeem back mankind, all that would accept his death, to bring us back into right relation with our Heavenly Father.
I guess that’s how I see it.

It's pointing out how Earth thinks differently from Heaven. To have grace in such abundance to trade your own life for another is Heaven culture and to humans its seems scandalous. Our Earthly instincts are for self-preservation first and foremost. Everything about the life of Jesus was an example of Heaven culture and seems foolish by man's metrics.
Its scandalous that one who is innocent should die for those who are guilty. The Grace of God is scandoulous, its absure, asinine, it's not fair, it's non seemingly non sensesical. Why would Jesus give His life to those so undeserving, to those who were enemies of His. To those who were far from righteousness. It's a scandal, how can the innocent spotless perfect lamb die in place for the worst of thee. Grace is scandoulous, the more you understand where we were how separate, how deserving of wrath, how in darkness we were, how perfect He is, How magnificent, how beautiful, how glorious He is, the more the more it does not make sense why He would die the cruelist of deaths for us. It is the scandal of grace, but by this scandalous grace we are freeed by. Too much to make sense of it all.
