  • The Ibanez CF7 Chorus/Flanger is a digital modulation stompbox from Ibanez’s Very Y2K Tone-Lok series, featuring a sturdy metal enclosure and pushbutton potentiometers. The Tone-Lok series is most famous for its fantastic DE7 Delay/Echo, but from what I can tell, the whole series is a collection of gems. I picked this up because of Ian (collector//emitter)’s demo of it, and despite owning (and having built) a few choruses, this honestly might be my favorite. It has a shimmer to the top-end that nothing else I’ve used does, it’s got a nice complex waveform to the LFO, the delay time stretches out to a double track/slapback range, and I just think it looks fantastic. The chorus setting gets a lot more play than the flanger side, which I think is passable but a bit anemic, and while much is made of the outrageously titled “wack’d” setting, we found the FM thing it does to be funny but ultimately not worth demonstrating. Casey and I are both huge proponents of chorus before gain and so we ended up spending probably more time than was prudent showcasing that application, but we also had fun, and isn’t that what matters most?

Agreed, we’re big fans. It definitely put the DE7 and TC7 on my reverb watch list.

Yeah, might be playing too loud. Microphone is clipping.
