Agalloch, The Mantle is a masterpiece album. But that's what it is, an album. It's easier with the other song, "pale companion", because it's the start if the album. This song is a little out of context. Personally I feel the song isn't too long but that's becuase I've heard it 50 times. I would recommend "Falling Snow" next. It's from the follow up album, I wouldn't revisit thins until you're ready to do the full album. It's a great driving album, especially in the winter months.
Ichor is the "Blood" of Gods and Immortals in Greek Mythology. So instead of blood they have Ichor running through their Body. Its described as a nectar like fluid. Bonus: The Word Nectar itself is from Greek origin meaning Nek (Death) and Tar (to overcome)
The Serpent & The Sphere kinda disappointed me just because the other albums set such a high standard. It would have been a great album for another band.
I honestly think that besides “In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion” The Mantle works better listening to it as a whole rather than picking and choosing songs from it. It’s an album that ebbs and flows so this song fits a bit better when you hear the stuff that plays before and after it. There’s less of a journey in this song compared to “In The Shadow...” so I can see why you could criticize it for being long. We set the bar pretty high by showing you “In The Shadow...” first. Nothing else on that album can really top that song but there’s lots of gems on their other albums I think you’ll enjoy. Agalloch were often a band that could tweak their sound from album to album yet still retain an identity that would let you know you were still listening to Agalloch. Hope to see you react to them again at some point.
@@Brandon-wi1eu I sort of did. In a previous comment I recommended they listen to something off the album. Chances are that others asked for it too. Can't blame them. It's a great song. Glad you enjoyed it.

They don't tour very often or play many shows, they've all got regular day jobs, I think the frontman is a professor.
