If he were limitless, he would be on par with the most powerful entities in the DC universe such as The Presence and other omnipotent beings which are vastly more powerful than him. His power is finite and completely dependent on the amount of solar radiation he has absorbed in his cells at a given moment. Therefore, he technically has the ability to become infinitely more powerful via absorbing higher degrees of solar radiation, however, his power will never be infinite or limitless as there will always be a finite pool of solar radiation upon which he is drawing his power from. Again, he's extremely powerful but nowhere near limitless.

I am a big fan of pre-(Silver Age) and post-(New Earth) CRISIS Superman. To be truthful, I am not really impressed with who is the most powerful, but who most exemplifies "The Worlds Greatest Superhero". For the first several years of New Earth, Superman's power level was really low in comparison to these others, and in the video, and I really liked it. Supes was limited to Earth, not the cosmos, being able to lift maybe only up to a million tons, a billion while he is flying (like lift a Star Wars star destroyer from the ground into orbit fairly easily); a 40 megaton nuke knocked him unconscious, and the length of the US, for over 30 minutes; he had to eventually breath air after an hour or so; and took several minutes for him to fly to the moon. It added a sense of proportion, more focusing on his morality and years of experience then raw power. Like he could be fighting a villain that truthfully says, "I am 10 times more powerful than you Superman!', and Superman would reply, "I don't care, I still am going to stop you.", then use skill as well as power to defeat him. Superman had some very distinct limits, but it did not prevent him doing his job, and what he represented.

Robert Ryan Both post crisis (new earth) and new 52 (earth prime) are weak compared to the original earth-2 superman and the early days of the earth-1 superman (before Sand Superman drained him of a lot of his power). Those versions of superman could tow a whole galaxy of planets and throw white dwarf star matter (a mere teaspoon of white dwarf star matter weighs 5.5 tons) light years away EFFORTLESSLY. It was these 2 versions of Superman where Clark received his reputation. New earth (1985-2011) and earth prime (2011- present) versions of superman are laughably weak compared 2 earth-2 and earth-1 versions of superman. Earth-2 and Earth-1 are also where Kryptonite received its reputation as back in those days, fighting Superman without it was like trying to fight "God" with a capital G.

I'd say Captain Marvel should be stronger. In canon, Superman is either equal to CM or CM is a little weaker. I like the consistency of Captain Marvel being faster than Superman since it makes sense. Even a supposed 1/10th of the Speed of Mercury should be faster than most of The Flashes (Reverses and sidekicks included) I'd also say that Captain Marvel has better healing, recovery, stamina, and endurance than Superman. Pre -cisis: infinite power. Post crisis- clearly powered down, then powered back up. John Byrne- powered way down to Hyperion (1) levels of strength and speed. Since then? powered back up. The feats here seem mostly pre-crisis power levels. (in post crisis)

Pre crisis superman can restore timelines and multiple universes when Superman fought jaxon. Superman vs jaxon The fight is explained by a green lantern. To restore all timelines superman had to output that much energy and force in his battle with jaxon. This jumped pre crisis superman from universal+ to low multiversal in his battle wiki. Mind you vs battle wiki is still a biased site that does not properly scale their characters.

Superman is only as powerful as the writer portrays him - he is a fictional character however it seems almost universally agreed by all writers from the beginning that Kal-El will ALWAYS have unlimited, vast power (Pre or Post Crisis) it doesn't really matter. I am a big fan of pre-(Silver Age) and post-(New Earth) CRISIS Superman. To be truthful, I am not really impressed with who is the most powerful, but who most exemplifies "The Worlds Greatest Superhero". For the first several years of New Earth, Superman's power level was really low in comparison to these others, and in the video, and I really liked it. Supes was limited to Earth, not the cosmos, being able to lift maybe only up to a million tons, a billion while he is flying (like lift a Star Wars star destroyer from the ground into orbit fairly easily); a 40 megaton nuke knocked him unconscious, and the length of the US, for over 30 minutes; he had to eventually breath air after an hour or so; and took several minutes for him to fly to the moon. It added a sense of proportion, more focusing on his morality and years of experience then raw power. Like he could be fighting a villain that truthfully says, "I am 10 times more powerful than you Superman!', and Superman would reply, "I don't care, I still am going to stop you.", then use skill as well as power to defeat him. Superman had some very distinct limits, but it did not prevent him doing his job, and what he represented.

It was these 2 versions of Superman where Clark received his reputation. New earth (1985-2011) and earth prime (2011- present) versions of superman are laughably weak compared 2 earth-2 and earth-1 versions of superman. Earth-2 and Earth-1 are also where Kryptonite received its reputation as back in those days, fighting Superman without it was like trying to fight "God" with a capital G.

I'd say Captain Marvel should be stronger. In canon, Superman is either equal to CM or CM is a little weaker. I like the consistency of Captain Marvel being faster than Superman since it makes sense. Even a supposed 1/10th of the Speed of Mercury should be faster than most of The Flashes (Reverses and sidekicks included)
I'd also say that Captain Marvel has better healing, recovery, stamina, and endurance than Superman. Stamina of Atlas, y'know
