@@avacado4706 Removing comments altogether and using AI translators
@@Elit3Nick answer me this, do you want some pesky woke localizers messing up your favorite franchise, or you want an AI to do the translation, and potential there being put something funny.
@@Makoto_Oksana Layoff with the political bullshit. This is about corporations using AI to do the bare minimum effort for maximum profits. AI is ruining media
The more cost effective thing to do is, let AI do the preliminary translation, and let the human translator clean it up. Saves time.
You don't understand how it works.
- Translators are given contextless scripts to translate from JP to EN.
- Localizers take the translated scripts then change it to "culturally appropriate context".
AI can do a shotty translation of scripts but that doesn't mean it will give good results. Localizers are the ones messing up the final products, not the translators doing 1:1 translation of texts without contexts.
Changing to AI hurts the translators more the localizers cuz:
- Either everyone has no job and the result being shit due to no proofreader, or
- The ones causing the problems, the localizers, are still in charge anyways.
This ends up taking more time than if you just have a human translator do the work.
@@keltzar1too bad most are shitty woke localizations changing it for the sake of.
@@keltzar1 Not really. If you've worked with AI you'd know it can cut time in half basically.
Same how litteraly every other product works with ai from artists too writing to translating etc etc ai can save allot of time But there needs to be a human to do the finishing touches
PR Team: "We are open to you all using our assets unlike others."
Content creator: "SCAM, GIVE ME MONEY. I will expose your greed to get more views !!!!"
I see why some company are not allowing content creators to use their assets. I doubt they'll ever contact RUclipsrs directly again.
I hope they will just phrase it differently next time. Like Chibi said, initial message sounds like rather ambiguous sponsorship offer, which it isn't. If they would establish it as "free assets under conditions" offer from the start, there would be no controversy. Of course, this guy on X lacks reading comprehension, and he should be blamed for not understanding what was stated in emails, but PR-teams aren't doing great with their task either(in this particular case, in general they are doing wonders) .
"if you're interested, we have assets" is not scamming people. They're just saying they're open to have people make content in a polite email (which is not always the case). The word 'oppotunity' might imply money but it doesn't infer it. Once you clarify or get a contract it should be obvious. I'm sorry but this just feels like people are scamming themselves.
It's kinda the same way of how you need to get permission in doing extensive content and filming on site on specific places at Japan.
They could just phrase it as getting permission to make content out of the series so the content creator will not need to worry about getting copyright strike.
free advertisement for the company and free "official content & material" for the content creator to use.
I agree completely and this blowing up over nothing.
There is no scam here, people just can’t read and interpret what the company actually said
@@onesmileybaldy8303 as much as I agree it is what happened, phrasing could've been better. Way they phrase it set up false hopes of sponsorship by fricking Twin Engine for their really big release, of course you will be pissed off if you'll later find out that it wasn't it. Going straight to "we are offering you opportunity to use all official assets for our newest anime Nokotan for free while you stay in fair use" or something like that would be better. I'm not saying Twin Engine are to blame, but I understand why this content creator wasn't a fan of this offer.
So you can make content with no risk of copy right strike and they provide you with images and a synopses. Hmmm sounds like they are putting the ball in your hands to make your own money off their series without any hiccups.
Exactly
That’s exactly the point. The value of the rights to the series is already more than enough as to where payment isn’t necessary. Didn’t Gigguk literally just purchase the rights to stream Dororo recently? Most series would already cost thousands just to purchase those streaming rights. This whole situation reeks of entitlement when all they have to do is say no if they don’t want to do it.
Considering that I've has Nokotan's first episode recommended to me on youtube as an "official" release through the "Its Anime" channel they do seem to be taking a different approach to copyright.
So, from what im getting, they wont pay you for the video, BUT you will be able to give your honest opinions and get the full ad-revenue from it? From limited information given, it seems like a win
Also people can just say no.
@@ElliotKeaton people expected to have agency over their situations? What a novel idea.
also they won't need to worry about copyright strike.
Really disingenuous title
Totally agree.
The dumpster fire continues to burns
The fact Nokotan is stuck in the cross fires hurts me cause like..... I LOVE THE STUPID DEER SHOW
and I want it to do well
Chibi, please check out Wistoria. The drama is crazy and all, but... We really needa talk about the crazy animation Yoshihara has done with it, rivaling or surpassing his work on Chainsaw Man.
Will do
@@ChibiReviews Can't wait to see your take on it. 👍
Yes please do chibireviews! I personally read the manga and it’s in equal quality to danmachi.
@@ChibiReviews oh ye, also elusive samurai, another sakuga filled anime
Surpassing chainsaw man? Nah
imo if the company doesn't want to pay content creators for advertisement then they aren't obligated to take the offer and can treat it as suggestion and I think it's fine regardless if they intended to ask for free promotion or not.
Ok,but where is the scam?? Where is the drama?? I don’t understand. This is just the production greenlighting us to make content of their property.
Come on Chibi…you could’ve easily titled this as “Shikanoko noko is doing Something NOT OTHER Anime Has Done” without the negativity bias bs
AI understands only one thing, to translate, to make a translation. Literally.
It doesn't understand context, it can't read a situation or scene, it can't read the air in a scene or dialogue like awkwardness and jokes, it doesn't understand references, it doesn't understand jokes even with the billions of database they have from the internet at its disposal it will never get tropes, trivias, quips, parodies, references and many other things these types of shows are attempting to do and will likely translate everything as is without understanding any of it.
I watched the day one MTL translated Nokotan first episode and it was unbearable. Shoujo was directly translated into > Lady and not Virgin, which is technically correct but that's the problem isn't it.
It don't get the jokes.
JOKES are the bane of non sentient artificial intelligence no matter what the purpose is. Heck even human translators don't even get them sometime.. Now you want to make an overly glorified translation algorithm do it?
For a slapstick gag comedy absurdist parody anime?
To be honest, from the way the email is written, they weren’t looking for free sponsorships. They were just offering things to include in videos, if they wanted to create content discussing the show. They probably just didn’t know that calling it a “collaboration” implies that it is a potential sponsorship.
even then its not scamming they would just be asking people to make a video on them which theres nothing wrong with doing that people just attack anything for anything
A: "Hey, do you want to make a video about our anime?"
B: "No thanks."
A: "How about you? Do you want to make a video about our anime?"
C: "Okay."
D: "WTF! Scam!"
I swear to god man…these clickbait titles have to go. At least make it an exaggerated version of what the news actually are. This is a net positive for all content creators and he is acting like this is “drama”
@@onesmileybaldy8303to be fair a few people are saying it’s a scam on twitter because they don’t get paid for it, so I guess he was just saying what people are saying, then in the actual video he clarified everything
L clickbait title.
We need more proof, other than that, hope this doesn't ruined even more relationships between japanese companies and streamers (or maybe is a good thing since so many crappy ones are contacted just because they are popular with mainstream audience which are mostly tourist fanbase that don't consume anime that much regularly anyway).
They should do their job and investigate creators that aligned with their franchises, for example, people like chibi.
I mean they could wager at least that at least you can you use official assets in stuff without worrying for copyright strikes. Which is better than a content creator having to go roundabouts to make sure not to get copyright strike when talking about a specific series.
They could make it so that its more of the content creator getting permission to use the specific series freely. Basically the same way like Hoyo publicly announce people can freely make content out of the franchise without the risk of copyright claims or strike as long as it is with the terms they are okay with.
Wtf are you guys talking about?? How would that hurt relationship with streamers in anyway, shape or form??? Company said in a very corporate way “hey, here is our product, you can make content out of it :)” and you guys are completely twisting the narrative. Am I alone in a bubble here? Am I the only one seeing this for the net positive it actually is??
Stop twisting the point 💀
I could see the complaint if they were asking for a twenty minute promo video or similar, in which case you'd expect, and be justified, in asking them to pay for it. That's not really what they're doing there though, they're simply introducing themselves as the PR company and offering free promo materials *if* the recipient wants them, which is pretty standard in most industries. The only remarkable thing really is that it's a Japanese marketing firm reaching out - usually they assume the world extends no further than the horizon.
nothing wrong with asking for free advertisement
yeah., their asking people to do it not saying they will pay then not paying theres NOTHING wrong with asking someone too make something, people just attack anything any chance they get lmao the show isn't scamming anyone
That explains why the subtitles were really weird
Ai subs will get better over time
@@Darwin-sama Not sure how that's relevant to my original comment, the subtitles were still weird and mismatching the actual transcript.
I don’t really support AI of subtitles of Crunchyroll, but that should not be allowed
@@AB_XM ??? What was mis-matching? The capitalization was weird, and there were a couple small errors (or I misheard) but for the most part it seemed pretty straightforward if uninspired? You do lose the puns in Nokotan and Koshitan's names, of course, and any other puns that might have been in there... I didn't really notice any, but I feel like I missed some among all the weirdness.
@@hibikigamervlogs2982I support it just based on the whole debacle with English translators putting their own agendas or “correcting” humor.
If the localizers weren't such trash, then AI wouldn't be such an appealing option.
Granted, I watch fan subs when I can. Pirate what you can, it's normally higher quality.
They aren't using AI because the localizers are bad, they are using AI so they don't have to pay them. If the localizers were good, we'd still have this problem
@@Ash_Wen-liAI isn't free. The irony is that they were probably already using AI for the initial translation. The localizers even admit they never translated anything. So they are probably just giving it a rough once over and left it as-is.
@@Ash_Wen-liBut the reality is that the localizers ARE doing a poor job. You can speculate about what would happen if this wasn’t the case, but at the end of the day I feel no sympathy towards people who have dug their own grave by repeatedly disrespecting the company that they are employed to and the people that they are meant to translate for.
@@Ash_Wen-lithis situation is because losers want to replace “saiyan race” with “saiyan tribe”.
Some fan sub even uses MTL now... I hope it's not becoming a trend
I prefer AI than a western Woke subtitle
Same
Pirating looking nice right about now
This company maybe got it right for a change considering all the other news of tourist getting their camel's nose under the tent.
The Nokotan controversies especially sting since this show was a big milestone since the dub & auditions were entirely remote and this was the anime debut for so many VAs
I guess if they didn't lie it's fine to ask. I am not sure how I feel about the AI subtitles though, if something is wrong they may not have anybody checking it. I also wish Crunchyroll didn't remove the comments, but I doubt they will bring them back. Will you cover, "The Magical Girl and the Evil Lieutenant Used to Be Archenemies?"
With the whole, English translators having their own agendas forced into the show without consideration for the show itself, I have now qualms about AI.
@@vincentlucario5450 I feel like there are better solutions though, more oversight being one. I don't have like a huge moral issue with it. I just worry accuracy will suffer and companies will skip hiring anyone to check what the AI is actually saying.
@@vincentlucario5450yes that should go for any job. Fire people and replace them with AI because of a few who did their job badly just because people can't be bothered to focus on the few bad apples even though the other employees have done their job perfectly many times before without any complaints.
Also the people making the smart suggestion can't actually tell the difference between two jobs for example a translator and a localiser
I see Frieren has competition for anime of the year. Reject humanity , become Deer! 😂
Copy pastaing something completely irrelevant to the video subject🤑
no
Seriously! Why are humans not deer?
You deer

I see a lot of people talking like the so called "localizers" are just translators, but that is not the gace. The industry usually works like this:
- the publisher hires a company to translate the episode.
- the company has part time translators that curate the subs for the episode (translation, editing, typesetting, adapting things like word puns ecc... the usual stuff that even fansubbers do), they are mostly unnamed and don't have any right on the translation.
- the publisher then takes the subbed version and gives it to a dubbing company to curate the dub.
- the dubbing company hires people to curate the dub, like dubbers and an adapter. The adapter is the one that takes the translation, modifies it (sometimes heavily) and writes the script for the dubbers.
The known "bad apples" in the localization industry are almost entirely on the adaptation side. Look at Maid Dragon, the subbed version was fine while the dub started the whole controversy.
Translators are usually ex fansubbers that managed to make it into a job, they are the ones getting replaced by AI, not the adapters.
I'm pretty sure all they meant was hey we are happy for you guys to make content for this show and if you need any material just ask us for it.
Paramount being sold off to merge with skydance gives me hope eventually all these mega corporations will go belly up because they can’t compete with free entertainment you find on the internet
Biden has actually got anti trust actions against many of these companies now what we needed for a long time.
Better AI translation than activist translation.
Damnit Sony!!!!!!😠😠😠
DEER lord, have mercy!
the opening song video for shikairo days went up by 4,000 views while you were recording the video
This is just so baaaad... Why the heck do you even shut down the comment section... It's stupid... And really bad for the platform overall...
Something to note, remow is also the team that’s “translating” this show for Crunchyroll
Yeah, so until there is more solid proof for the Nokotan PR team trying to get free advertisement accusation. I am just not going to believe it. And if I misunderstood what was being said or I am missing, I do want to know btw since my knowledge is really limited to almost none. But because like you said about it being a brand deal where a transaction with money is usually expected, that doesn't automatically mean that's the first thing being mentioned or talked about in the first E-mail. Sometimes you just need to go to them to make an agreement.
If this turns out to be true, then I hope people will bring this to them and explain that just because you get access to all this official footage and character related stuff doesn't make it a good deal. They should be prepared to pay them an decent amount (whatever that is, idk) as part for their marketing budget. Because I don't think they would be doing this out malice, but it would be a massive oversight for sure since this sort of thing hasn't really been done before as far as I know.
Anyway, I am still going to enjoy the show regardless as it is the only one I unironically look forward to each episode for each week nowadays (It's a personal thing that I don't feel like talking about and not because I think there is nothing to watch).
Fun fact, the voice actor, voicing The deer 🦌 girl it’s the same one that voice kana from Oshi no ko and the voice actor voicing the blonde FMC in the English dub is the same one that voiced kana in the Oshi no ko dub 🤩
I really think the only issue is whether that email is made to be deceptive. if it is clearly just asking for free advertisement that is one thing and would be fine in my opinion. But if objectivity, a reasonable person could have made a video in the expectation of being paid something based on that first email, that would be an issue.
This just feels like Japanese company tries to announce that they're not going to ban youtubers for fair use and youtuber terribly misunderstanding it as sponsorship but without payment.
Yeah they're twisting the original point
@@entityglitch8429 I'm not sure it's malicious twisting. They just feel scammed because email looks like sponsorship but is not.
First one here thanks for update Chibi keep at it my guy love the vids
Thank you so much
The PR for Nokotan probably have a different view of advertising, they see that the content creators get their payment though views & likes.
Also Chibi, do something about that grease spot on your webcam m8y, the lens needs a clean.
Me when someone brings up Nokotan: She’s a Menace to the Entire City I WANT NOKOTAN!!!
We’d rather see some H-anime collabs.
Crunchyroll removed the comments
I'm pretty sure it has payment but maybe it depends if you agree and contact them. Also that deal is so good though if you ask more they will give you contents you want it's basically free content without the risk of copyright and that alone can at least get revenue.
Good on you for not having a business email. Several youtubers both big and small have had their whole channels hijacked by hackers pretending to be official companies through these sorts of emails.
I'm willing to bet most of these business collabs are scams from bad actors or scams from companies looking to exploit youtubers by paying them in "exposure", aka work for nothing.
Not gonna lie I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my Crunchyroll subscription after getting rid of the comment section cuz I don’t have a lot of people to talk about anime with so it was nice getting to interact with the anime community on it
Well if they make the content to be memable and not to be copyright struck for the series. Than them not sponsoring isn't exactly a too bad of a thing. Cause let's get real... They a lot of times break even with the money. And if you make a good enough video that get's popular or blows up. And you won't be copyright claimed... Heureka I say. It's going into a better direction.
Copyright strikes stink, got my 1st one recently, really wish Japan could just see it as free promotional materials from RUclips channels that love and enjoy the content that they made, word of mouth is a a way to get someone interested in who might want to purchase said products that were promoted
They’re within their right to ask for free advertising it’s not like they’re forcing you
frankly am a bit torn on the AI side of things, yes the quality isnt there yet, on the other hand you dont just get translators adding in their dumb agendas as seems to be the case sometimes.
I don't know about AI subtitles in english, but don't forget thats not the only lenguage on crunchy roll, machine translated AI subtitles are very bad...
Let the AI do its thing. Surely it's better than suddenly having political messages inserted from our of nowhere.
Chibi, your replies aren't visible.
Not sure who you need to contact about that
What do you mean?
I see them it’s ok
@@ChibiReviews I would send you a screenshot but it wasn't populating them when I clicked on other comments.
Probably a server error since the video was just posted.
I don't think it sets a good prescedence to be honest and I know this is something the game industry has done to some degree, because at that point you are not really being a content creator but a publisher and there is going to be biases in promotion and companies with the highest bidding gets special treatment from the content creators. I agree the copyright strike stuff is bad, but they don't need to be involved with the content creators to tell them what to do.
chibi halo might become the number 1 game in japan no joke apparently there was some testing going on and its popular in japan.
My Deer Nokotan is Anime of the year!
A scam is if they actively mislead or lie to you. Just offering CCs to do content on the show and providing them with information for that is not a crime...
Y'know I just watched the first episode and thought "this feels really off and bad." I suspected it was AI but this confirms it.
Embrace the deer thee deer god has decended
I wonder why people lie about something simple as being scammed by them. We should focus on the contract exploiting and underpaid people who have to crutch their time to make these series good. 😢
What is the problem here? I would understand if they said that they would pay and didn’t but that is not what is happening. If there is no contract and you don’t want to do it then don’t.
Is Crunchyroll really doing all this cause of one show 😕
There was also that BL show that had a lot of hate.
@@Untolddeadwhich is strange
The fact that they could had just removed the comments just on that show,
or even block the people who were the problem in the first place
No. This is the new business strategy. Look to Rotten Tomatoes. They removed all Star Wars and D+ show ratings. As well as the Netflix Marvel shows. Then, when youtubers started making videos, they removed *all* audience ratings. Now, they're back up. Just a glitch folks. Nothing to see. Meanwhile, the usual news outlets all start running stories about how disney haters are making styff up. It wasn't _just_ star wars.
How convenient.
Now, they're going to remove audience scores. Because of all the 'toxic' people.
Crunchyroll copied their homework. This way, they have an excuse to remove people's ability to review stuff, or point out the localizer changes.
Thats the whole point of this. Customers are getting fed up with many companies. Instead of fixing the issues, they want to silence the customer, so that it doesn't look as bad for the investors.
@@Mzz-u6o On the one hand, I see it.
On the other... it is election year and the media is like a pack of hungry dogs trying to find the next "Only conservatives are getting silenced!" story.
If CR had only blocked those people, Trump himself would've probably mentioned it during his next rally.
Better than locolizers
Old school Crunchyroll would compensate fan promotion in other ways beside money. Such has free Crunchyroll for a few months to a year.
Hey chibi can you make a AI did a translation on nokotan

Hey, to me it just sounds like they're giving people carte blanche on copyright for what all the anitubers were doing for ages while constantly in fear of Japanese studios slamming them.
I'm still using my Crunchyroll subscription because I paid for the whole year, but after this there is no way in hell I'm continuing to pay for Crunchyroll after this.
They are just advertising piracy at this point.
Shikanoko tokotoko
arawaru nokonoko
Tsuno tsuno pyoko pyoko
mitame wa onya no ko?
I think its not scam, they just offers the content creator to make video about the anime, its like Volounter, if you want than its okay, if you dont want to then its okay too, like clip anime content creator do, its just i think they just got wrong call, they better email cliper anime content creator instead of some "general" content creator 😅
But the problem is, is that the official pr anime emails? Because its could be scam if its not
Asking for it do be done for free is not a scam, it is just bs. It would be a completely different story if they promised something and never delivered.
Besides that, it seems like they were offering pre-release information that wasn't publicly available, for some people, specially small channels, that could be a decent deal considering they are not even gonna get paid promotions most of the time. Now if that is worth or not it is up to the content creator to decide, and they can just say no.
They seem to know the best ways to market the show and that’s good on them. It’s not my cup of tea by any means but get that bag.
Deer brain rot anime deserves better
they can just say no right? i’m pretty sure this is not the first free ads they got on their email, i think CDawgVA also got free games from dev for him to play on stream. how is this a scam? is chibi brain just turn off the whole recording?
after a lot of tweets that i read from localisers they deserve to get replaced, after literally admitted not doing a good job and admitting changes context in anime subtitles i don’t have sympathy left for them. do better job or get replaced by a human made brain.
Where exactly is the scam? It is very common in journalism that you get early access to information to make a story about it before anyone else. Literally nowhere is it mentioned that this is a sponsorship or anything of that nature.
The AI subtitles things and the censorship of people being critical of that though, yeah, that is BS.
it would be real smart of them to start striking after the season is over i also did not find the cartoon uhh too funny but the class room walk in was good
I'd rather Nokotan be translated via AI over having it done by someone as poisonous as the translator for 2.5 Dimension....
seriously?, My Deer Friend Nokotan scamming people?, that's a load of bullshit right there, I don't know who these guys think they are in posting something that's not true, but they ought a stop doing that.
I'm just thinking about canceling my Crunchyroll subscription, disabling comments is BS.
I'm still gonna enjoy it
The title is way too misleading, wtf lmao

Freedom of choice perhaps?
I think theyre making the same with Oshi no ko becuase the subs are weird too.
woke crowd hates this anime, which makes me love it
Actually i saw a channel that uploaded the entire episode on youtube.
Those are license
Nope, I prefer AI translations. I’m sick to death of puritan “localizers” deciding for themselves right and wrong, and filling work with their personal politics without the knowledge of the creators. They had their chance to win over customer support, and they crapped on them. AI for manga, AI for anime, AI for movies, and AI for games. And localizers should Learn to Mine
While I don't like the idea of AI subtitles if no one at CR checks them before uploading we get some really funny ones
The PR team must've seen Chibi's video and thought "hey, now this is great exposure. Let's ask other youtubers to advertise for no $$$ at all!"
Was curious how come I can't comment on crunchyroll
f*8* it! to the high seas we go!!
