As once bjarne spoke :
"There is two type of languages , the ones that everyone complains about and the ones that nobody uses ."
Microsoft has been exploring Rust for a few years, although it's encouraging to see some movement on this front. MS is also hiring devs to port C++ libraries and large code bases to Rust. From what I've been able to gather, there's a lot going on with Rust at MS, perhaps more than is actually being reported. I think at this point it's safe to say Rust is the new C/C++ for the 21st century.
great video!
They aren't editing the C# code.
It's the C++
Read the second article linked in the description.
Maybe it will replace some web development as well. Rust can run on the browser by compiling to WebAssembly. Rust and WebAssembly integrate with existing Javascript tooling like NPM, Webpack, and ECMAScript modules. Elixir is another language getting more attention as well and of course Go.
There's no point in using a language with memory ownership semantics in the web browser. It just doesn't help you model or solve most problems faced in web frontends effectively. Maybe in a couple unique cases. I could definitely see Elixir replacing some web dev.
MS will weasel its into Rust eventually.
But honestly, how do they know Rust is replacing C#?? They have spent too much time, money and effort with C#? Plus it can be written functional, declarative, imperative along with OOP!!
Seems like the article might be over exaggerating Rust's capabilities in order to throw shade at another C language!!

Rust is a better mousetrap
Day 3 of asking ...Learning c++ as my first Lang and heavily confused whether I should continue it or not learning it from programming principles and practice using c++ by Bjarne Stroustrup
I have the exact same book right here next to me. Yes, continue learning C++. It is without a doubt the best low-level teaching language. At least learn the fundamentals of manual memory management. Every single Rust developer that I have talked to personally encouraged me to learn C or C++ first before learning Rust. It's the only way you can fully appreciate and understand all of the problems Rust is trying to solve. Plus, there will be a lot of good-paying jobs over the next 20 to 30 years porting C++ to Rust.
Very informative, except for one small wrinkle. Microsoft is planning to use Rust as a replacement for C++, not for C#.
Does that mean Rust has more of a future than the great Ruby?
This is like seeing when Microsoft started investing some small change into Linux, and even hiring some linux dev .... and coming to the conclusion that "OMG - They are going to ditch Windows and use Linux from now on"
C# isnt going anywhere, and neither is Rust
You can't get rid of C# because of legacy reasons.
But its best days are behind it.
@@user-kv4yt7ly8o Let's go F#!
They should write the kernel in ruby
wait... what? That's a good sign, as long as they don't buy Rust. In which case Rust would start having a New Major Update at a weekly basis, and start updating without even ask you for permission
If the white house recommends it, that means you should NOT use it…
But they do a great job at everything else......just like the obamacare website...if there is one thing they know it's tech
They call them rustatians. Linux was the first to include rust in his kernel, now Microsoft is next. Even the White House recommends rust now.
It recommended several memory safe languages, not just Rust
C# is done 🪦
C# is a very powerful and underrated language - not given much love because it is perceived as "boring". But C# is very productive and devs who program in it make a ton of money.
That is like saying Java is done...
@@josephp.3341 Yes, C# is a very good language and you can deliver good quality app with it. But the killer .NET feature is mixing up C# and F#. With C# code base kept at a minimum (UI), 😉.
No.
C++ is what it's replacing. Not C#
