Thanks for watching! I hope you find the video useful!
Greatly appreciated!!
I actually did; right on time!
Always, unc.
A long time ago I tried to learn React after two-three months of Javascrip and I didn't get a thing so I took a break from programming for a few months thinking I was too dumb to code. Then I spent nine months or so doing vanilla PHP and JS and building things from scratch, and one I decided to revisit React because I needed a job and I managed to pick up the basics in about a day.
Awesome 👌 😊
and you got the job? or did you just pick up the basics?
Great job! 💪
Still no job lol
I got a job. My point was that once you've "mastered" the basics you're able to pick up more advanced libraries, frameworks and tools quickly, but I still enjoy working with older technologies like SASS/LESS, jQuery, Ajax etc
Hey, used to watch your material back in 2020 when I was thinking about getting into software, long story short, I am a developer now and been working for exactly 2 years now after studies. Few days ago, I started to think about the freelance route again and this popped out in my feed, thank you!
Hey, congrats on becoming a developer! 👏
Top notch. I’ve experienced some of these myself. Slow feedback from clients can definitely prolong timelines and then they look at you like it was your fault.
Thanks Uncle Stef! Exactly what I need!
I was hesitant to start , i will keep my mouth shut and do the work , Thaanks u
I can totally agree with what you are saying. The best way for transition from a fulltime job to a freelancing business seems to be reaching a stable income of at least 3 month money. I have quit my regular job on the first glance to early (had over 10K a month, but no time for mining new clients). Now i switch back to a fulltime job for 2 years and establish my freelance stuff beside, that is much better for me. For sure there is alot of "payed lessons" along the road. That was one for me. Never give up is probably the most important one.
Thank you for your guidance, it's very appreciated! 🙏
Thank you uncle Stef, the think about time tracking is unbelievably valuable!! Because I all the time thought how would I know how much time I will spent on project
Thanks Stefan for sharing your experience, great learning!
This was dope Stefan. Appreciate the tips
Thanks Stef this is awesome. I'm in the process of building my first freelance web design & development company. Hoping to go live by the end of the month 🚀
Wow such great advice. Thanks uncle
very true... i noticed how better i bargain when i knew i had more clients on ground to work with and more that i'm working with
This is gold!
As an aspiring web developer, I really had to look back on a few of your videos to understand the difference between web designer and web developer and which is more in demand as a freelancer, which you've mentioned a little in this video.
I'm curious how much work is available as a front end developer (web developer), and if I can rely on that without web design as a freelancer. I'm certain you've addressed this in many of your videos, but that's where I'm currently interested in.
Thanks for the videos. I've been binging them lately and really awesome/inspiring stuff! So much of what you say relating to "freedom" and freelance really hits me on an emotional level, which has me excited.
Great stuff. Thanks
Always great information 🙌🙌🙌
this is just goldmine of useful real life experience :) thanks uncle Stef :)
Glad you liked it!
This is exactly what i needed to know. Thank you for this video!
Glad it was helpful!
so much knowledge here thank you
The Sensei! Pure jewels of wisdom! Another great tutorial Stef Sensei! I sat through it TWICE hoping it'll all stick. Steph of God! You could have kept this knowledge for your paying cohort on your website, but you made this info available for everyone. God bless, Stef!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks, Uncle Stef!
Welcome.
Thanks Uncle ❤
Stef, Video was very interesting and insightful.
Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks !
Just facts! 💯
Great. Thx
thank sir for sharing ....
Thank you for the information!! I've watched multiple videos of yours over time 😁.
I have a few standalone/separate questions, more for your opinion, if you don't mind..?
- As a newer web freelancer, what is your take on attempting recurring monthly work (i.e., maintenance and SEO)... avoid it until you're more comfortable and do set it and forget it sites?
- What is your take on being a hosting reseller for your clients to avoid dealing with whatever host they choose or not having full admin control over their site in the event of non-payment?
- Are you aware of any thorough courses on HTAccess or should I avoid it altogether (when hand-coding sites from scratch)? I love how Flask/Django/ExpressJS sites don't have the ".php", however I get mixed info on tampering with HTAccess and it does not seem like there are a lot of good tutorials... I do enjoy hand-coding in lieu of getting knees-deep in bloated frameworks.
bro is goated asf no cap fr fr
The most important bit is about small clients vs big clients and always looking for new clients.
Thanks 🎉
Thanks man
No problem
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Hi Uncle Stef could you speak on the new federal rule for independent contractors taking effect in June? Anyone on a 1099 under their social security number now has to create an LLC to continue doing business as an independent contractor. This seems to force significant overhead (insurance, workers comp, LLC filing, hiring an account, etc) on anyone starting a business, including freelancers.
Gem! 💎
Everything you're saying is so true... experience talking...
23:40 Wow, the proposal thing is an eye opener. Didn't know that people pay for that ish or mine unsuspecting people for them.
Yep.
but how long did it take you catching up a new language then delivery the clients job in a reasonable time... i only was successfull with this technique because of ai I leverage it to learn react while building, and i've been wondering if i could've learned and delivered a project built from scratch without llms in a reasonable time😅
I easily get stuck while working on advanced projects and get burnt out, but I do not want to build boring basic apps because they are not enough in today's market. Any advice?
and same thing chosing tech stack roles and i keep switching in that loop nd in the end i didnt make anything
I don't understand at all how you can get customers WITHOUT an upwork. Where can I get them? I made a website with a portfolio, did the first job for free to friends, but then what. Vacuum
Steph this was truly a fantastic summary, very clear and helpful. But I wonder, as you mentioned for a web designer what's need is the knowledge of core web tech (html, css,js,php, wordpress, sql etc), but what about the actual design of the website, the the way we structure the content, UI,UX, style and feel. It's quite daunting! Does that mean that we should mainly depend on templates or just hire a designer?
Learn the core which is HTML, CSS, JS, PHP and the rest will fit like jigsaw. If you learn CSS you will be good in bootstrap or tailwind which simplify UI/UX similarly js will enable you work with libraries like react or Vue. WordPress comes with editors like elementor or divi which has good UI UX.
I’m a front end developer and senior UX/product designer. You NEED to ask the right questions to your client - understand their focus and needs first, then do a wireframe where content and purpose is prioritized. It’ll help SO much.
Coding is fun BUT that comes after all that, otherwise you’ll code without direction and the client will change their mind etc etc. Design is also MORE than good looks, it’s about understanding needs, problems, goals and vision then guide/structure the designs from that THEN code.
Diving straight into code is a bad idea. OP ask the right question here.
@@TheApeWonder This is so helpful and important. Thank you so much!
@@nickronkibunei5223 Thank you so much. I still don't know wordpress but I guess it should help with building things faster. Very helpful thank yoiu!
i wanna be a mern stack developer/full stack develoepr which one is better carrer in 2024
I start learning programming from html css javascript then php and my sql database then i learn basic c# ...
But now i'm confusing which roadmap i choose? for mern stack or full stack?
I really appreciate you uncle stef! Can I get a job if I only know backend php,HTML and CSS and some WordPress knowledge?
Yes. Entry level. Have a good portfolio.
Sir Stefan, why some clients asking your website should generate leads how will I do that as a beginner? client said I dont care about your portfolio that doesnt give value to my company.
Can i do logo designs/ graphic design/ ui &ux instead of full stack/ web designer, is it good.....??? to start that...???
What about someone who is a fresher in freelancing market, i don't have a portfolio site, I don'r have any projects to showcase on my portfolio. What should I do to get started?
I map that out in the video.
Beautiful content. Web designer or Fullstack developer. 12:00
> Big company asks you for an estimate
> Ask an LLM to make a vaguely professional piece of slop
> Multiply all prices x4
> Good luck using that for price negotiations
What camera do you use?
Canon R5C
What do you think about AI technologies? Is it necessary to become a web developer?
Not required. But good to know what's out there. I am actual adding Ai modules to my mentoring program at unclestef.com
Is MERN stack good for freelancing?
If you understand MERN, you will be able to handle most freelance jobs.
Should we go from Html..to css. Then straight to word press or do Javascript or python first????😢😢
why not WordPress and make websites with that knowledge then => Html,CSS and then => JavaScript
HTML5, CSS3 and then do Wordpress.

Can you land a job in the corporate world after becoming a qualified freelancer? Is this a good starting point?
That works. The key is to build a strong portfolio.
Job market is so bad right now and I'm sick of being at the whims of some CEO trying to please some faceless shareholder by giving me the boot to balance their budgets. 10 years of experience primarily in front end and would love to get into freelance but finding clients just isn't easy to do. Everyone says just "network" but doesn't explain HOW to do that. Sure 'go to events' but that doesn't work if you live in bumfuck nowhere. I would wager the majority of us who have the disposition to sit in a room for 12 hours a day learning software related things generally aren't the type to have the disposition to be able to network effectively even if we knew where to go.
Do you offer mentoring to become a freelancer?
Yes 💯, at unclestef.com.
