- Check out my weird farfisa/moog album here!! slugbug.bandcam...
i have had this for months but never made a video about it, weird
Here's a weird video about it. I try to play other people's music: "Midnight Confessions" / Grass Roots, "Incense and Peppermints" (required by federal law to play this)
This is the best product demo-video ever! Must have watched it 20 times in a row.. Well I'm out to buy a Farfisa now, and I don't even play organ.. YET!
Back in 1970, I was playing a gig, and right in the middle of the gig, one of the transistors blew out and my "A" switched to a "E flat". I spent the rest of the gig trying to avoid my "A" keys.
Awesome story 👍
😁😁😁
Then what happened….?
@@heli-crewhgs5285 I had to play avoiding the key. I missed a couple times. Lol
@@PittDaddy …and what happened after that?
This not only a demo. It's an art of the instrument, the player, and their vibe.
Ah..the cat too..
I watch this video every day.
Truly the finest representation of the sinister inner nature of the Farfisa Compact I have ever viewed. I own a red Farfisa (which I found at a hamfest, of all places, for $50!), and I can attest to the accuracy of this documentary.
this is one of my favorite videos of all time even though there's no way i'll be able to own a farfisa compact
I enjoyed everything about this video. It was as good as Terminator 2. Thumbs up. Like.
4 years later, and I agree.
this video is ahead of it’s time now people are trying to replicate this look
Watching it again, 3 years later.... why this hasn't won an Oscar yet?!
i love this guy..after the first 6 seconds, i knew i loved this man.
Fun and engaging video! I like your sense of humour, and hearing Incense And Peppermints brought a smile to my face.
I sincerely appreciate how much chaos you managed to inject into this presentation.
yeah.. back when we smoked weed, skated and played music all day... with little to no working... i ABSOLUTELY would hangout with this guy everyday... would even be willing to do so now.
I just found one of these in an old music store dumpster, brought it home. Brought it up on the variac and it works….definitely needs a tune up and kinda beat but its all there.
Nice Incense and Peppermints
I saw this video back in college, I am now in my thirties crazy about old keyboards and I have you partially to blame. I passed on a used Farfisa Mini Compact in a pawn shop years ago because it was much too fragile for the abuse I would thrust upon it. Two friends of mine recently bought both Doric and Rheem Mark VII organs and I have to show them how to play them eventually- through my old Super Reverb and Leslie 147.
I've lost count of how many times I've watched this video. It never gets old.
I've been lugging one of these around since '66...cost five hundred used...been dropped one too many times, but still ticks. Thanks for all the inside info about this ancient device!
How is this demo not viral?
Only 73K views in ten years?
Folks need to discover/rediscover garage/psych bands like 13th Floor Elevators, The Seeds, ? & The Mysterians. The B52’s (especially “Rock Lobster”), The Shaggs (world’s “worst” band 😂) and countless countless others!
I subbed this channel as well you should. Thanks pdmillar!
At this point garage/psych revival has been done to death and not one of them ever figured out that Rock Lobster was the only time post-60s that anyone even ATTEMPTED to make a song as good as the Monster Mash
The Shaggs music is so futuristic that I don't dare imagine what they would have sounded like with a broken vox jaguar
amazing video.... maybe the greatest achievement in human history
Yes the Farfisa Compact is the best keyboard instrument ever, I own 4 of them.
Panther Combo share!
2:42 B-52s classic organ sound!
this video is too ahead of its time
Paul, you're my hero. Watching this again 1 year later. Please do more videos!!
+1 for the Cat tax at the end.
I've always enjoyed the sound of the Farfisa, a great little device that creates some fantastic noises. I first learned about it from The Aquabats crediting someone as a "Farfisa Player" on one of their albums. Unfortunately I can't afford a Farfisa or any other combo organ for that matter, so I've had to settle for VSTs. I wish to flick those incredibly satisfying looking switches and play on those keys at some point in the future...
how do you know so much about synthesizers and old electronics? They are very interesting to me but I would have a hell of a time repairing one.
I love this dork
How couldn’t you
This is still probably my favorite video on the entire Internet, PDMiller!
Slugbug fucking rules
Paul is a sensitive new wave guy... 🤪
BEST INSTRUMENT DEMO EVER, FUCKING CREEPY !!! (indeed you're not nuts enough to play Light My Fire) Truly goth instrument.
My high school had a fast 5 -- decades before you were born!
Great video, might buy a Farfisa eventually if I can find one cheap. Someone was selling one of the VIP models for $200 on Facebook in my area recently but I passed it up because I had recently bought a Bontempi organ (similar vibe)
This is the best video that exists in the world... THE WORLD!
this is still amazing
*Thank you* for the "Rock Lobster" riff!
Now in 2023, best part is your drippy reverb voice!
I always keep coming back. Excellent production Mr. Millar...
Wonder if these guy alive stil ?? 2021. Hm
can confirm, he is alive
Been about a year since I first watched this. Had to come back it is that entertaining!!
You’re ahead of your time
SENSITIVE MAN MUSIC .... LOL SO MANY GEMS HERE
Greatest video that ever existed in the world! THE WORLD!!
FUCK Vox organs! Or all the other compact 60s organs! The true sound of Garage Punk! I have 3 Farfisa compacts! One for the road, one at home and one for spares. Nothing beats it! ❤️
Ps. Just kidding! I also love the jaguars, continentals, YCs and all that! And hammonds! But Compacts rule! And through my Leslie! Or my fender siver face! Sometimes both together! Hell and the skies all in the same little combo! Fucking crazy Italians! What a design!
Great!!!! What a fun video!!!!
Agreed
I love how this looks like it was filmed in the 60's or 70's, what kind of camera are you using?
This is probably my favorite demo video. -Lurch Poiuyt
This is gold
Awesome demonstration!
This is brilliant, you've sold me
@gtjoesalutes That's 100% correct, the main difference is that the irregularly-shaped pulse waves create a far richer harmonic structure than most other instruments using flip-flop dividers (=square waves containing only odd-numbered harmonics)
I think you'd be hard pressed to find a more entertaining instrument demo. As others noted, great references, and classic riffs you don't always hear on the organ, but work well here. Definitely highlights the Farfisa's unique sound........THANKS for posting and rock on.....
This is simply amazing.
Holy shit. This video changed my life. You're my new personal hero and god.
Best instrument demo on RUclips.
2:08 Incense and Peppermints
Best demo I have ever seen. Roland should should hire you.
Love this video! Would like to see more farfisa content
When you flick through the available stops, I can't help but hear old Tex Avery cartoons :)
This is my favourite YT gear video ever! I really hope I never have to meet, work or socialise with any of the 16 ppl who thumbs downed it
THE BEST ORGAN OF ZE WORLDZZZZZ - THE BEST VIDEO OF DI INTERNETZZZZZ - THE BEST DAY OF MY FUCKING LIFE !!!!!!!!!
You need to make a part two to this. this video is fucking entertaining Paul!
Now I need one
I’m going to be picking up a farfisa in the next two weeks…where in NY are you-would love to contact you if any repairs are necessary. I nabbed a beautiful red one in seemingly great condition-but we’ll see
Brooklyn, E. Williamsburg
this is simply the best video on youtube!
Couldn't be better
Dude, Your voice is perfect for this Demo.
wait 0:13 Paul did you pull a tubeway army on me
Paul, you are a goddamned mad scientist and I love you for it! I'm a guitarist but have been in rapture with the gospel for years. I just bought my first. RHEEM. Pretty nifty. I dig your video. I will subscribe now AN UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCE!!
is this reverb from the farfisa compact ? or did you use other reverb unit?
The reverb is coming from a Peavey 701R rack mixer
thank god for this vid. i have to deal with a cople of voxites and with boards on hand and had no way to proovethem wrong - until now
I love everything about this
wo has to be late 70s or early 80s hes playing a couple garage band rifs the not quite and b52s he hits 3 bars of gary numan and a couple runs of the clock the one step beyond voice is lol.love it .
Awesome vid. Just scored one of these
Excelent advice
Pleaseeeeeee! Does anyone know what song that little bit he plays on the Moog at the beginning is from? It's bugging me too much haha
gary numan, me I disconnect from you
@Luminescence9 It's the same Panasonic WV-3240 tube camera head I have used for a lot of videos. But I was also screwing around with a prototype RGB->NTSC color encoder my friend Lars built when I edited it, couldn't help myself.
This is great, wry humor included!
Damn I wish I can afford one
Used one in a band through the 80s. Have tapes of the band with one being used.
what kind of music 60s garage?
@caffeinatedrecording Haha, that's great. I'm just being facetious, I love all combo organs. Voxes even look marginally cooler with the reverse keys.
thanks for your video. i hope you are well
"But Paul, how does it work? You may ... NOT .. be asking!"
Paul, This rules, what model is this or what do you have it going through, sound amazing but I can't find others that sound this good
I had my keyboards all plugged into a Peavey 701R rack mixer then. That's what is generating the reverb. I may have EQ'd the organ a bit, don't remember.
I never realized what a cool riff that Rock Lobster riff was until this video.
A champion demonstration!!!
Hey Paul,...I know you said you're using a Farfisa Compact,..but what is the Model number and the year? Also, what stops are you using for "Midnight Confessions" & "Incense & Peppermints?"Tanx!
I know you are tongue in cheek but hey man....I started with a Farfisa in 1966 but got religion in Manhattan KS opening for Mike Finnegan and the Cerfs. Finnegan played a Hammond B3. I HAD to have one. fast forward some 50 years and I still play the B3. The farfisa is cute but to play real music you need the tone wheels.
As stated elsewhere, I make fake music, real music fills me with inertia
Nothing like real music to make fake religion more credible....
@@pdmillar Amen
@@nisios yes a video about an electric combo organ from the 1960s is the best place to discuss religious politics
@@audiodood yes a video about an electric combo organ from the 1960s is the best place to point out an inappropriately placed discussion about religious politics.
@caffeinatedrecording And I didn't even play any Doors covers!! But we all know the Compact is better than a Vox :)
Check out the second to last video I posted. I play this organ in my new wave band.
(Kidding, I have nothing against Continentals or the Doors)
Dear SLUGBUG, I was wondering, do you know what model Farfisa Billy Swan used on I Can Help? Any info would be appreciated, thank you! 🖤🖤
Nice Incense and Peppermints!
youtube hidden treasure
20 year old frankie...
You are unique! Thanks for the vid. 2:08 (Animals?) is a really great sound.
Best product endorsement.
what a great sound/demo, yes : thank you for this demo. i hope i can fix my yamaha yc 45d as fast as possible !
That my first keyboard
Great cat cameo at the end. And I laughed when you described Farfisa as sociopaths.
Is this the organ The Caesars used on "Jerk It Out"?
Amazing. Can you do the organ part in Section 43 by Country Joe and the Fish, the Monterey Pop version? I got out my EMU Vintage Keys and played some Farfisa sounds yesterday, but its not as good as the real thing.
The Masked Marauder by Country Joe and the Fish is prettry good, too.
