I think he watches how fast you run at the beginning to decide how much of a head start he'll give. So the secret might be to run slowly at first but make it look like you're going as fast as you can, and then start shifting.
Fr I think everyone who didn't qualify past the trials should do this as am event against Normal people this would be entertaining for sports like Track, Wrestling, Boxing, Basketball, Soccer ect.

Truth is he had trouble stealing bases. Couldn’t read a pitcher. Never got a good jump. Picked off sometimes. Got thrown out a lot. There’s more to stealing bases than just being fast. I would’ve never believed it if I hadn’t seen it for myself.

He really was fast as hell. Only had him for one season though.
