  • This video explains what you can and can’t do on inboard marine transmissions. I explain rotations and how to change the pump indexing on a cast iron Velvet Drive

Thank you for such a good vid. Finally , A clear explanation of reduction gears. Do you know how many arguments I have had over this topic. Maybe , because I have older engines in my boat, people think I'm crazy when I tell them I have a reverse rotation motor. How about throwing in some vee drives and really get your head aching !!

I'm looking to put a pair of 5.9 Cummins in my 36 Cigarette. What transmission would you use. I was going to run valvet drive. Any input?

Great video! I have a problem with my boat (Volvo penta 8.1 with zf 45 A ) all of a sudden the transmission is not going into gear. Won't go forward or reverse. Cable is moving the lever, transmission fluid level is OK. What could it be? Thanks in advance for your advice!

Thank you for the video extremely informative, i still have a question of my case which is a borg-warner 71cr 1.52:1 fw and rev. I wanted to know since the transmission is currently in the boat if there is away to change it to run in reverse to go forward. Some time before i purchase the boat i believe the owner did a rebuild with the wrong rotation engine and my propellers don't counter rotate as they should specified by the manufacture. I have being looking for a solution that isn't taking the engine out and making it counter rotate. Do you have any suggestions?

Use a Right hand Propeller, you can trade your left hand in (or vis-versa if I did not understand you correctly).
      All done!

please, I really appreciate if you can answer me, I speak from Brazil, I have a velvet drive reverser, it rotates at the same rotation as the crankshaft when going forward, I would like to know if I can use it in reverse gear to go forward, so I don't need to change the propeller, does it cause any serious defect to use like this?

What's the benefit on having one of these installed. I've thought about putting a transmission in my jet boat and been looking for a transmission so that my boat isn't always at high rpm. Will these help with that.

Fili Tamayo no the transmission doesn’t have multiple gears for each direction. One coward and on reverse speed

Hi i have borg warner trany with low oil pressure. What could be a reason(s)? Oil recently changed. Twin engine boat. The other side is good which works with the same fluid. Engine is reverse rotation.

Most likely you have a high pressure leak internally or the pump has failed. It will have to be removed for tear down and inspection.

I have a question on an early model 71c can you change the Pistons and plates inside the converted to a big block

    • @LakelandAutoMarine
      @LakelandAutoMarine  2 года назад

Unfortunately, no. The 72C case is 3/4” longer to accommodate the longer forward drum and input shaft for the 13 clutch plates from the 71C’s 9.

Thankyou very much just a quick question just to clarify I'm wanting to buy a 72c Borg Warner gearbox for my narrow boat the one I'm looking at is 1 and a half to 1 reduction my engine looking from stern is running anti clockwise but it would mean prop running clockwise I want me prop to also run clockwise so would I be able to turn oil pump 180 degrees? or not thankyou so much
    John

I meant I want my prop to run anti clockwise (left handed ) in forward sorry useless with technology lol

    • @LakelandAutoMarine

No. Crankshaft rotation is prop shaft rotation on a 72C 1.5:1 transmission.
