My Bamboo WOODEN bike business in Africa
After completing his degree, Kwabena Danso realized that these opportunities seemed to exist in the city but not where his family lived, in the lush green countryside outside. If the opportunities where he grew up weren’t there for a graduate, what chances did those with little education have?
He teamed up with some fellow students and set up the Yonso Foundation to support education projects for children, especially girls. He met many interesting people who were also trying to open up opportunities for rural communities - one of whom was Craig Calfee, a bike frame-building pioneer over from the US. In 2009 Craig introduced Kwabena to the special properties of bamboo for bicycle frames. Kwabena saw an opportunity to help young people in his home town develop new skills by crafting a high-performance handmade product using local sustainable materials.
He went home to build a factory and after receiving international quality certifications, Booomers started exporting beautiful frames around the world. Our largest partner, MyBoo, sell their bikes throughout Europe. We have since produced over 3,000 frames and employ over 50 young people aged between 18 and 29. We also provide an income to 20 young people who harvest and 200 farmers who cultivate bamboo.
In 2019 we researched the market in North America and have created a small range of hand-crafted, affordable bikes to suit the US and Canada.
The work of Boomers and our founder has been recognized and supported through local and international programs including the YouthActionNet program, the UK Department for International Development’s ENGINE project, the Tony Eleumelu Foundation Entrepreneurship Program and the African Entrepreneurship Award. Most recently Kwabena participated in the Obama Foundation Leaders African Programme 2018.

Don't depend on idiot Akuffo Addo, he has no clue of what he is doing as a president.
@@gmog7857 Don’t call him names okay. Akufo Addo cares for 🇬🇭so grow up.
I have never heard anything about bicycles made in Ghana. I am very proud of this young man. Our government should help manufacturing processing in Ghana. Without Manufacturing and agriculture, a country can't advance. Ghana needs these types of people with visions. Thanks for bringing this great information to us.
This is fantastic!! I had no idea bamboo bikes were a thing or even made in Ghana. Changing the narrative of Africa! I see you girl :)
Very intelligent and well spoken. I have tremendous respect for him.
I love the way you sell the country. U are an inspiration dentaa. Love your outfit
Thank you so much
I'm so proud of the KING, who trains and employ His Fellow African KINGS AND QUEENS. He made some very important and essential points,as it relates to doing business in Ghana. The Government needs to listen and address whatever existing inequality and inequity there is so that local and businesses from Diasporans can prosper and grow.
Big ups to my Ghanaian brother. Keep it up. Just like you i have grown fed up with asking the same question over and over again. How come nothing is done to improve our beloved country. It finally hit about a decade ago. We are the answer. We need to innovate and create opportunities. Our people frown on getting their hands dirty. The west was built by private citizens. Our banks have to support. We need venture capitalist to drive industrialization. God bless you and may you grow to and expand beyond our frontiers.
This is super impressive
One day i will come back home and start a business, n you gonna interview me to
Awww ur smile nkoaa ☺️
All the big invention and inventors started the same way you you are Inventing, so Thumbs up, keep on keeping on brother. Good luck and bless.
Kwabena making us proud
Ah! Am I the only one who get baffled when people dislike video like this ??
Africans have the talent and the skill to create so many things which impresses me and doesn’t surprise me.
Our brothers deserves a lot of respect for inventing their bamboo bikes.
As always my sister colleague Sister Akos Dentaa interviewing so many famous and non famous names from 🇬🇭and man she should be awarded.
I love this guy, I can tell he has a beautiful mind!!!
Amazing creativity, and most of all, inspiring. Kudo's to you Boomers, continue showing our African youths that they too can achieve. 👌👍😎
Thank you Dentaa for showing African innovation and success stories to the world, you too are an inspiration in yourself. 👏👏👏
This Brother is wonderful and his company really on time. I would love to share some thoughts with him about moving forward....
Bamboo is such an under use material. Its been used to build houses, its such a strong product. In regards to this video, I love his tenacity and determination to push through. ❤❤❤
i have learned too much today.... i am finally concluding my decision of going back home
wow... job well done to him and his worker's 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾💯🤗🤗🤗 this is such a beautiful gift to get for someone and I will so buy from him👌🏾💯💯 you got yourself a new costumer sir👌🏾🤗🤗🤗

...This Kwabena Danso, is one of the most Wise, Knowledgeable, and Down to Earth Young Men/Entrepreneurs I have ever heard speak. So Proud of Him and what he is doing, especially for His Community. I hope to meet him and be of help to Him one day.
I want one of his bicycles! They look sturdy, light, polished, and stylish! Congratulations for your innovation.

I am certainly interested in agriculture. I love to eat, cook and try out different dishes. I have very little space to plant the different things I like: cassava, sweet potatoe, peanuts, corn, banana, mango, citrus etc. The climate is not conducive like the tropical climate I was used to. I like what you do, Odana. Keep up the good work.
Good Good God bless you all for Made in Ghana proud of you all where are our politicians and banks to help those who are ready to develop our beautiful country.
This was very useful, and I appreciate the content... AWESOME !!!
Great biz. Show, and Dentaa you look amazing! 🥰your clothing, makeUp & Hair, totallyLook!
Congratulations!! success in your journey
Wow! Awesome. My people are geniuses.
Keep pushing Kwabena...it always takes courage to start, and very soon your international recognition will be massive. I'm proud of you.
Domestically and internationally businesses should both be given a tax credits break for their companies to get started, but both domestically and Internationally businesses both should create a Community Benefit Agreement for their respective communities they work and provide employment, economics and education opportunities.
This is fantastic I did not here him mention scooters for kids and adults, I've always thought of a bike done with wood and wala there's one in my country well done to him. Love you show.
I remember UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson visiting this factory, that was about 2 yrs ago before he became PM of the UK,what the company needs is aggressive marketing and promotion of the bikes,he also needs to open sales outlets especially in the rural areas where there is a transportation problem and so bikes like this will come in handy
The price might be a hindrance in the rural areas
My favorite show
Wow! This is interesting information on bamboo.
This Brother definitely understands Social Economics and now he must create an nationalist movement.
I heard the president gave some money to the young entrepreneurs. Why did he leave this guy out? I love Dentaa Show paa. Good job done Dentaa for bringing the hidden entrepreneur out. Please discuss with the Minister for Business Development, Hon Awaal and see how he can assist him financially. Tourism Minister can also come in.But going forward, does the Bamboo bicycle have the future? By the year 2024, vehicles are going driverless. Bicycles are giving way to .walkings for exercise development. Are these not some of the reasons why investors are not coming? As master in business administration, in the Central region his best place for the factory? Even though at the central region, has he establish a market at the North where they use the bicycles most? Has he penetrated Mali and Burkina markets? He should explore more to win most of the bicycle markets on the continent. At this computer age, bicycles will leave our transportation world very fast.
You cannot be given money if you have not applied. I'm sure if he had applied for the programme, the Ministry would have supported but it wouldn't really have helped. The max they give is GHS 10,000
You have a point, his market is more in the northern regions of Ghana and francophone countries like Burkina Faso where bicycles are mostly used
Dentaa you are gorgeous
Fantastic! #Bamboo is carbonic- hence, very safe for the earth!
May God expand your business.
Thanks this show is amaizing
I'm getting 3 of them on my next visit to Ghana ..do they do for female aswell....where can I buy It in Accra or do I have to go to the place and buy it ..
This man needs government support in order to employ more people. This is our own. God bless you and keep on the good work sir.
He needs people buying his products. Government can put all the money but if we don't buy, there is no way he's going to make it. We're always quick to say government.
They are beautiful bikes Never heard of them till now
Hey sis I subscribed to your channel because of your strong and contagious personality . All the way from Brazzaville.
GREAT AND FUN VIDEO...THANK YOU!!!
I think Ghanaian youth love bikes. Kindly make it affordable to them
This is so wonderful. have not seen this type of bike in town yet though.
Amazing interviews and videos, period.
Check the echo in the sound.
Good vibes bro, de sky is ur limit
Love this show.
Thank you
This bike will soon be a status symbol....
When they see you growing, that is where the devil starts to work. "Pull him down ". I remember when I was soaring in my business, the commercial manager started changing his attitude towards me with a lot of "go, come tomorrow, come the next day, oh director says and so on ". Africa, we are sick. Everything Danso is saying is exactly the problems doing business in Ghana.
That’s why those of us in Diaspora need to collaborate with Innovators, Visionaries and Entrepreneurs on the continent.
shes smitten look at her ,god bless you brother proud and black
God bless you for helping develop the country. But the government has to intervene, when it comes to startups entrepreneurs, interest on loans should be considered.
good video
We need a cycle highway infrastructure in West Africa to encourage people to cycle safely. The road conditions are dangerous enough even for motor vehicles. I rate Booomers International highly, creating jobs, the quality of their work is exceptional, the "made in Ghana" branding is genius, we need to brand and accept our locally made product. We need many more entrepreneur like this and not copycats.
There're so many opportunities for us in Africa and we need to grab it, own it and support each other. The foreigners in Africa are living like gods and goddesses, it's about time we woke up, begin and continue to change our Africa for the better for all Africans. I wish them the very best of success.
Super...super......super....வாழ்த்துக்கள்......வாழ்கவளமுடன்.தங்கள்..நிறுவணத்தினை கான விரும்புகின்றேன்...I am INDIA....in Tamilnadu...salem.
That is a shame local investor or young entrepreneur who are so enervated against all odds are producing .Ghana i am diaspora you better fix your banking system because we need all hands on board we can start to competing amongst the world. All we have is each other please don't defraud us while your Government is making money from us with your year of return. Stop it be smart. They is a lot of brain power in the diasporas including with the Africans-please support each others and be on code. period !!!
Africans focus too much on social status instead of realizing that they are already rich ...
I can see this guy has a descent way of thinking and is respectful. It's a shame that his own government is so corrupt and unfair . I really hope he can succeed his business in his lifetime. He cares about his community and is not a selfish pig . you people need to take a lesson from this guy . All the best for the future. PS Has he thought about building house out of bamboo being that it's such a strong material ?.
Please Africa UNITE! on my bike, I want the whole continent of Africa displayed . Waiting for your response.
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Great show ...Mummy Dentaa please when will you interview Kojo Jones..
Thank you
We are afraid for one of us becoming successful like Bill Gate , We will do everything to undermine their effort, if Bill Gate were born Ghana under all the conditions with our mindset I don't think he will become a multi billionaire any time soon, it is sad but that is true and it will hurt some of you feelings.
TRUE,Politicians and some badmind people will bring him down
I was just gonna ask where is the shares so I can invest! Hello......I'm telling you that its going to boom!
Please email Dentaashow@gmail.com

Brilliant and innovative business idea. Unfortunately, riding a bicycle on Ghana's appalling roads is a No-No. Until they fix that they will have to rely on exporting them outside of Ghana to make this a viable enterprise.
How much are they sold for in Ghana?
You rode from Accra to Apaah on a bike? That would take hours in a car! How long did it take?
We need an African Crowdcube. The credit issue is insane!
I never knew bamboo absorbs much co2 than any other plant
Please, tell me how I can order a bamboo bike from Ghana. I tried months ago, but the process was so frustrating. Do I need to order through Europe, or can i order direct from Ghana.
I think the reason why people don’t buy bikes in Ghana is because the streets are not bike friendly. It’s the same in Europe people want to feel safe riding a bike around cars.
where can i get one to buy for my little boy
his website and details are in the video description
Good one there! but the guy needs assistance to acquire more tools to reduce production cost🔧🔧🔨🚲🚴👊👍
Good idea. Are you going to help him to acquire the tools?
This is a very sad situation, home grown start ups should be supported, it's home grown private entrepreneurs who are the backbone of the economy of a country. How are we going to grow the economy without government support. Something needs to be done.
I hope someone invested upon seeing this video.
Big up #HollandBamboo #StElizabeth 🥁🇯🇲🥁🇯🇲
Corruption policies forces instability !
We must give the priority to our sister (woman) than male because they have true and loyalty . Africa is still back far in economy because we abandoned our half economy which is held by women ...no woman interfriner
A business requires its workers to be productive, not complainers. Women in all other countries work alongside the men. People like you are always a drag on any Black owned endeavor. Always a negative spirit.
Listen to the man.
I think there is a lot of innovation in Ghana but there isn't enough support from the banking sector, government and investing in your own.
I want to know the price of the bamboo.
Great"
I work in a male dominated industry. It takes a special type on female to be able to work (long term) in a male dominated industry.
How much did he say it cost?
How can I order one of your 26" mens' bike?
Do you ship to America? (I am asking this at the beginning of the video.)
Do you supply the bamboo parts for repairs?
Hello John, we do ship to the US. We however do not have a 26" bike. All our bikes uses the 700C bike
Yasssssssssss
Its not about where you start...amen amen
Only bad thing about this is replacement parts. Maybe not something he's considering now but would be good if he hasn't already.
He just needs to make them into different colours next.
"Africans DO NOT support their fellow Africans to grow" this has got to be a curse!!! This phrase has echoed in my ears throughout my life.
How can I order this bike?
contacts and web details are in the descriptions
Ok
@@ODANANETWORK which description please
@@samuelbissah1883 THE VIDEO DESCRIPTION BELOW THE VIDEO
Please give a name to the bike as they do in Europe, Ghanaians don't buy bikes because there is no special roads and places for them to ride
Using the bicycle is a win-win!
Afrika needs a system like #SharkTank where you have investors vying to partner and supply the capital.
We already have this in Africa
whats the problem of speaking your language??!?? am based in europe, you will never see a italien, russian, german...etc. using someone’s language. they will let you read subtitles. be proud of what you are and where you from. respect starts from home. african made bikes👍🏿👍🏿🙏🏿🙏🏿 put africa allways first ✊🏿one africa
In Europe people ride bike all the while.
if exporting is expensive then why wont he rather open a brunch across the African countries so as to open the business at a lower cost and also cut down on expenses in exportating? is that possible?
Africa has trade barriers among the countries on the continent. That's why AU has tried to start African free trade and Eco money for west Africa but France sabotaged it and the French speaking Africans are not helping to make trading among Africans easy
@@missbabyloved7531 it hasn't been sabotaged. It has already been implemented
@@tvs9978 are you serious? It's only among the French speaking Africa countries because France sabotaged it for them to peg it to the Euro so why will you continue to be colonized at by your colonizers and slave masters? Do your research well, I suggest.
@@missbabyloved7531 I wasn't talking about the Eco which is of no interest to me because it will never work. I was talking about the free trade zone. That was fully implemented last year so you can trade / export anywhere within that zone in Africa without unnecessary impediments.
A bamboo bike on Amazon UK costs £1,436.22
Ghana dont need bamboo bikes ships cars or aeroplanes
Some have done those things with steel. So if you want to compete do something of higher quality
Yep, our mindset is Jacked up! I bet you if a famous white actor or footballers start buying these bikes, the copycat Africans will start getting them. We are absolute follow-fashion!!!
