Good vid. Afaik the cai and 4" tubing and ~4" n62 TB will add upto 10-15hp. Also from what I've read basically m60 manifold moves the torque curve from the higher to lower end, so you'll get more torque pulling away vs higher up say passing a semi. The horse power is the same for each manifold afaik. Also there are 3x manifolds: 1) m60b40 (from e32, e34 and e38) these are the ones with horns and has the lower torque curve. 2) m62b44 (from non-vanos units found on PFL e38 and e39 units etc) these have the higher torque curves. 3) m62b44tu (vanos units on FL e39 and e38 from ~late 97 till 2001/03 depending on chassis). These are the worst of the 3 and why lots of people upgrade as have the thin pipes and may have reduced airflow compared to the previous two (im not sure as I have the non-vanos unit but these units may have a lower output). Also afaik the dinan intake is basically the same as the m60 with horns. Looks like that intake manifold is about 900 new. Sounds like it might be worth it though. And maybe I can find a used one. Thanks for this video!!

Quick question did u use your old injectors and are the non vanos injectiors bigger then the vanos injectors if so could I use the bigger injectors
I used the vanos injectors not sure if they are different from non vanos ones
I have a 99 540i w/vf supercharger, i tried to get the sprint booster for my car but they say not available!

Are you in E39 540i Exclusive on Facebook? I thought I remembered seeing you post? I'm so glad you made this video. This is exactly how I felt after doing the swap. I've done dual exhaust and deleted my cats so I'm thinking vanos has been altered as I've lost some initial low end torque. I've swapped back to see if it's a difference and it's not. Having the flow coming in and just the right exhaust going out is the key.

I've a 540i from 97 with ecu and catless, is quicker than the 540i with d vanos and take 9-16 ltr, great car❤

Keep fuel and air filters fresh and clean and change oil every 5000kms

Hello Sir! What radio is that you have installed in the E39?? The fit looks bang on and I like that it's Android based. I use that Torque app all the time on my phone with a Bluetooth adapter. Having it built into the radio would be sweet! Love your 540, I have a Silver 01 540i-6 speed myself, hoping to get those headlights and the M-Tech front and rear bumpers soon so I can get mine looking nice again. Also trying to hunt down some E39 M5 wheels for a reasonable price cuz I already need the extra rubber out back and I haven't even done the intake upgrade yet! I just have a good Cold air intake, and Gutted all 4 catalytic converters and straight piped all the resonators/mufflers and I have a Magnaflow 3" Straight-through racing muffler. Not too loud, Sounds nice and deep with almost no rasp.

I’m not sure I think you need everything from m 5 driveshaft rear diff axels etc maybe more

Also 2 quick questions i started noticing blue smoke on startup and sometimes-during hard acceleration in my 540 was wondering if you had any advice or suggestions on what could be the problem, & also do you suggest a transmission flush? Idk how i feel about BMWs “lifetime fluid” claim
@@bobbyrobbyn1838 I use redline mtl in transmission lifetime fluid is bs, and some do smoke a bit you could try putting a cup of atf in your engine oil if your rings are sludged up this will help
@@BurninGas8.1 I have the 3:15 LSD on my 540, all we had to do was get the M5 axles to fit!
@@optimistic32 driveshafts were the same lengths? You've got me very interested in swapping mine now if all you need is really the diff and axles

@@nater258 havent got on dyno yet but top end is definately way better and bottom end the same works great and still awesome fuel mileage
