I would say that its better to introduce txt file before databases because its not likely that everyone making a discord bot will have millions of users using the bot, most bots will only reach a few dozen or hundred members at most so it won't store large amounts of data. If more people start using a bot in the future, the developer could migrate to a database to suit extra storage needs.
I agree with this. I've not made my bot public since I started development because it's something I made for convenience as I use Discord a lot and so do my friends, so the purpose of it is within that circle. I've managed with just jsons for the past few years.
Great video! Before I use the system, I have a question. If the database is stored locally on your computer, then how does it interact with the bot when you're not connected to the internet?
It doesn't. If you want to your bot to be up 24/7 you have to host it online to the cloud, create a own server at home or your pc has to be up and connected 24/7 (hosting is probably a lot cheaper).
Is it possible to have a bot scape message history and save it to a database? Such as archiving message history. It would be great to be able to delete a channel without losing any of the messages.
this guys voice hit me like a brick when i clicked on this video damn
