- when filming the Eden Valley Railway at Appleby there is a station to the right and an engine shed to the left at the scrap yard that I missed mentioning in the video. after this video I will be filming views of Appleby Market Town in Westmorland Cumbria, then maybe filming more of the Eden Valley Railway if you want me to film from Appleby to warcop? live a comment if you want me to carry on. Filmed with the Mavic 2 zoom.

My grandfather used to own the coal yard just north of the Appleby east station. I remember watching 47s in the 80s stopping and opening the level crossing gates on station road.

Fantastic video my friend. I was amazed that the tracks were still there. Normally they quickly rip up then old lines but looks like they have completely missed these. The abandoned station at the scrap yard was formerly known as Appleby East (and the still-open one upon the Carlisle & Settle Line - just down the road - was formerly Appleby West and is now simply named, Appleby). The weed-choked track is still technically open for traffic! The "Thumper" Diesel-Electric Multiple Unit which is regularly used by the Eden Valley Railway at Warcop was actually moved up from the south east under its own power and used this route! This was very possibly the last movement over this line. I understand that many scrap cars had to be moved out of the way at Appleby East to allow it through! The scrap yard had to comply as the line is "open"! I further understand that the E.V.R. are planning upon extending their line up to here one day and so the "Thumper" will be running over this track again. Many years ago, whilst it was still owned by the B.R. Property Board, my parents attempted to buy Appleby East with a view to making it a B & B.
