    From a motorcyclist, bravo sir. Really informative video and great work. Was the idea for the seat to keep more of a cafe racer style? For touring I would have expected a double Yankee? Still a lovely looking machine.

    • @exgtt2061
      @exgtt2061 3 года назад

      There is no Cafe racer look in the vintage scooter scene, given that the original mods didn't get on so well with the guys that rode cafe racers. It's it's own thing.

      Thanks for the feedback. I have thought about building a second one and perhaps selling one of them. I usually find it easier to build things a second time and it would be great to have a pair of them in circulation.

    Please can you repeat the origin of the part of the intake manifold that is assembled to the carburettor; surely a rubber part? (Subaru?)
    THANKS a lot! And it seems as if the carburettor is very loose.

    • @martinleech1509
      @martinleech1509 Год назад

      Hi. Thanks for your enquiry.
      The elbow is known in the trade as a ‘cobra head’ and comes from a Swedish company called ‘do88 Performance’. The part number is SCOB63. You do need to cut the cobra head short at both ends to fit,but 63mm seems to be a fairly common diameter for both carb mouths and air filters.
      Yes, the carb appears to move quite a bit, but I think the movement is exaggerated by the bits that are attached to it. However, as the rubber, the aluminium sleeve and the air filter arch up above the carb, some of the weight of these components sits behind the centreline of the carb. If all that weight was in one straight line hanging off the engine, I am sure the manifold rubber would have failed by now. As it is, the manifold rubber has been good and it has not been necessary to replace it. Well, so far.

      @@martinleech1509 I am VERY pleased about your reply; thank you very much!! I own a MAICO with disc-intake and the design of the intake area is simply extremely lousy, so I am looking for alternatives. Although I have never had a scooter I am deeply impressed about the level of technical modifications I can find in RUclips 🙂

    A couple of points here: Firstly these vehicles' real value is in their originality. A scooter which has been subjected to so many mods, changes, and additions is totally deprived of its classic identity. Secondly boosting the power makes for a very unsafe vehicle to ride even with the brake uprates. The original design did not cater for a frame to endure increased power transmission, vibration, and speed, and the 10" wheels are totally unsuitable. Anybody who wants a more powerful machine to ride should go and buy one specifically designed by professionals for this purpose.

    • @ScooterLabUK
      @ScooterLabUK  2 года назад +1

      I think you’re missing the point. The owner has made these mods to improve his machine to his own liking and to make it more practical for himself. He has no concern over the future value of the scooter.
      Although the original design wasn’t made for excess speed the world (and scooter tech) has moved on massively since then. We could all be riding around on standard drum brakes, with rubbish suspension, running a points ignition system and with a slow engine but it wouldn’t be much fun.
      Scooters are all about what the individual wants, whether that be nut and bolt restoration, rustoration, full custom, street racer, chop, cutdown or race scooter. A Lambretta is well capable of being anything the owner wants it to be.

    • @78a67h
      @78a67h 2 года назад

      @@ScooterLabUK To each his own as they say. Someone may like to fit his Model-T Ford with a computer controlled state-of-the-art supercharged V-12 engine producing 500 HP and have fun driving it around (not far I hasten to add!) My own scooter is bone stock down to the last nut and bolt with points ignition and everything standard as factory fitted when made back in the 70s. I like it this way. If I crave for something modern, powerful, fast, computer controlled then I will go and buy such a contraption, not mutilate my scooter trying to achieve this.

      It was an old Li150 bare frame and I turned it into a GP special. Do you think I should have sourced all the original parts and rebuilt it as a 1962 Li 150?
      Now, I must get back to my TV175. Where the angle grinder?
