I think this is absolute magic. My polished two stroke lambretta engine can be on display in my man cave and my immaculate LI special can be on the road any time I like, where it belongs!
Getting 30 miles on a charge doesn't seem like much, but from my experience going that far on an old lambretta without it breaking down is almost a miracle! This looks to be not only a nice kit, but also gives a whole new life to classics with added reliability, cheaper cleaner operation and as he pointed out, keeping access open in cities which have otherwise banned older vehicles. keep up the great work! I really like your honestly as far as actual range, too.
Bloody marvelous and very well done 👏 Having owned 2 strokes for over 40 years i would love 1 of these as it's classic design but moving with the times. Deserves to be a winner 👍
Was getting excited about this until I saw their prices. I wonder why they haven’t sold many in the U.K.? Great idea and would love to do a conversion.
A comment on the Shanghai Custom e-Cub video brought me here. As someone who likes classic vehicles, this approach seems best - new tech under the hood, but the aesthetic preserved. Definitely a way to keep classic vehicles on the road. Top marks to Retrospective Scooters!
Nice vid Dan, very interesting how design & technology have progressed to this point. Well done to all involved at retrospective scooters 👏👏 Something I'll be looking into in the near future 👍🏼
interesting stuff, like the idea of it being plug and play and reversible. As Battery tech gets better so will the performance though the lack of sound with any electric vehicle bothers me safety wise. Loud pipes still save lives! ;)
Wonder if I could wangjangle it into my Lambretta 150LD Seriously though, finding parts is such a chore for this thing >_> I just want it to run again even if electric. It was my grandmother's scooter my grandpa got her on tour in the military ages ago. I'd kill to get it running so she can see it again before dementia completely claims her.
To be honest trying to find parts for my old lambreta is a logistical nightmare here in Texas. They were never as popular in the US and parts are rare. I'd love to get my engine running but without importing from europe what I need for a premium price it may never happen. This kit however looks to be just what the DR ordered till i can collect everything needed. I love that it doesnt clash with the old look of my Scooter
Hi Bud, unfortunately, my wife fell quite ill towards the end of last year so I had to re-prioritise my time around the family. Still got a few hurdles to clear in that respect, but I do intend to get back to this as soon as is practical for me to do so.
@@drunkmunkey6969 Hi Dan, I’m sorry to hear that. I really hope your wife is okay, family first. Don’t feel any obligation to rush back to youtube. If and when the time is right, we’ll all be here to enjoy your pearls of wisdom. All the best.
Yes, exactly what i was thinking!. Not sure how that'll happen, maby a dynamo sound affect, louder with speed, but silent at stop, which would ne weird in itself 🤷🏻♂️
The "Greenest" most environmentally friendly vehicles are the vehicles that are ALREADY built and are converted to Electric propulsion. A scooter could be recharged using the solar panels mounted on your house.
We will Appreciate if Battery Powered operated is made to Petrol Engine with its usual working All Gears in proper Drive of Two wheeler. Nice it will be if Openly shown all Technical modification is done in Engine Frame for accurately fitting Battery operated Motor and Removing Piston Cylinder and other instruments installed in Petrol Engine.
when they gonna fly? :D i love electric upgrades no need to buy ugly electric bikes just change engine.i hope to upgrade my oem rim so i can use it too.
No classic breakdowns, No classic rising petrol prices, No classic Hunting on eBay for months, years, decades even, for one sodding part! I've loved scooters ALL my life, (meaning I'm a classic too... ) but even I can see this makes heaps of sense. We'd all love a 30/40 year old scoot to perform the way it did back in it's heyday, with all the sounds and smells not to mention stress that entails, but frankly, it's not really gonna happen in todays world is it. Yes, there is a fairly costly outlay to these kits, (hopefully all things electric motor/battery wise are going to get cheaper as they develop and become ever more popular) but, the money your going to save is going to offset that over time A LOT I'd have thought. Lastly, the torque on these classics once converted is off the scale and has to be seen to be believed! Not a week ago, I had the pleasure of watching a geezer pull off the lights on a fully fitted Retrospective Vespa 50 Special, leaving a VERY surprized flash sportscar owner (and me, as I had earbuds in) for dust. I caught up with the guy on the 50s when he stopped at a local chippy further up the road, we shared a good giggle, (think Alice in Wonderland Cheshire cat grin, on his part and you've got the idea) before he zapped off silently, he told me to check out this video.
I think this is a great idea for urban riding. You only have to look at the news on TV and the manufacture of petrol motors are now being banned in 2025. At best you have 5 years of riding a petrol motor, although the price of an electric car needs to come down substantially. So IMO all those 2 stroke kits that are coming out really are a waste of time and money, think about it. The party will soon be over, so it's either electric or nothing that's the reality.
A lambretta can have more storage space than before as the glovebox still. opens and. reveals space right down the centre of the two. battereies inside.
Way too expensive like the cars and of course there is no classic engine noise or smell, this is for the woke who have never loved the scooters and how they sound ,smell, need looking after ect fucking london
I'm a motorcyclist but when I see scooters in the Merseyside area collecting, most appear to be Scomadis, Royal Alloys, Modenas, LML's, Piaggio 300's etc. Most are laden with comedy bling. These Retrospective machines keep the iconic shapes but offer modern reliability. Motorcycles are going this way too. There'll be many more on the roads in the coming years.
Nice kit, but really calling a Kelly ''the best controller on the market'' is a statement that will hurt you credibility in the DIY community. Kelly was the best 20 years ago. There are now much better and cheaper controllers on the market: 3Shul, Votol and Nanjing Drive to name only these.

You have to applaud anyone looking forward. I'd love one for riding local. With technology hopefully the range will improve.

Good to hear you've included the J range of Lambretta.
Well done Nial and team for looking at the future 👍🏻
That's the effective use of technology, you saved a masterpiece from going into the trash. Fabulous, Job!
Was getting excited about this until I saw their prices. I wonder why they haven’t sold many in the U.K.? Great idea and would love to do a conversion.
I'm assuming this solves about 90% of the reliability issues as well. I love me some 2-stroke but this is fantastic.
I'm about to get my hands on my Dad's old vespa and I'm gonna definitely consider this conversion to keep it on the road.
Sounds good lad you will enjoy it and make friends with it .its a good life .....

Wow these guys are amazing. What an awesome kit. Really cool. I would really love to install a few for fun. Really cool...
good idea, giving the old Vespa's a new life!
I just love a 2T engine, but this is clearly the future.
Definitely a consideration in London with the ULEZ - Nice to have the option.
👍

I see a potential market in speed driven sound effects!
At 3:45 '64kW and 72kW battery'? I think it is 64V and 72V battery. Later he says 64-28Ah, so that is a 64V, 1.8kWh (P=VxA) battery then.
This is so impressive and forward thinking
Great work and forward thinking.
Wonder if I could wangjangle it into my Lambretta 150LD

loooove. amazing..such a classic vehicle
Will there be one coming out for the Royal Alloy?
Yes it's good that all the original look ..but I love the sound of a lammy or vespa .but yes I bet these are more reliable lol
Where have you gone Dan? I was really enjoying your regular uploads during lockdown one.

It’s very cool, make a thing that makes the noise and I’m converted!

Great presentation, soulless scooter

Thanks for this nicely made video and interview. Really interesting piece of kit put together by an obviously pationate company.

A reliable Lambretta never.
The Lambretta kit is £3650...
Taking the soulless GTS vibe to a new level. Total Bullshit.
