      @TT-vb3yk because
      1. in person you see the face expression and this helps a lot in conversation
      2 because people can be more often rude by phone than in person
      3 because secretary can more easy ignore you by phone as in person

      @TheGeorgeD13 3 года назад +1

      Eh, as a native English speaker “there’s” works just fine there. I didn’t bat an eye there.
      True, “there are” is more grammatically correct, but the amount of natives who speak grammatically correct all the time is pretty low. You’re good bro.

    • @blacksunangel636
      @blacksunangel636 3 года назад +1

      Geez! This only thing used to be confusing for me cauz i heard, even on tv shows there's used with a plural noun...Now ,i get it, thanks a thousand times bro.

    • @TheGeorgeD13
      @TheGeorgeD13 3 года назад +1

      @@blacksunangel636 No problem. What's more important than being grammatically correct is to have what you're saying be understood and that you understand what they're saying.
      If you go to any English speaking country, especially the UK, the US, and Australia/New Zealand, you'll notice we're very loose with the rules of grammar in the vein of stuff like your "there's" example. We do that sort of thing quite often.
      And frankly, you probably understand that rule better than most English speakers lol.

    I love the real situation lesson. It makes me know that real US speaking is still hard for me. Anyway in Thailand, we seldom make appointment for doctor. If it is only small disease like fever or cold. We can go directly to drugstore and pharmacist can choose medicine for us without any prescription. And if you just exam your eye for buying eyeglasses or contact lenses. You don't need to see the eye doctor. You just go to the eyeglasses shop, exam your eye and choose eye frame. Eye doctor for us is like when you really have problem or disease with your eyes.

I'm from Mexico and I've been watching your videos and they have helped me a lot.. currently I'm living here in north Carolina same as you do... my husband is American and after 7 years of iving here I'm picking up a better English... because it is not the same I used to learnt down there in Mexico..... one of the things I am afraid the most to do is booking an appointment no matter if it is in Spanish, but worse in English, because generally the secretaries speak SUPER fast.... and with those tricky words like you just showed in your video, that make it impossible for me to understand..
    Same for ordering food.... some people talks really fast and I always try to figure out what they are saying.... but this video cleared me some of those words and hopefully I would be more confident to make an appointment from now on... thank you vanessa.. my name is Ana by the way.. see you

      Doctors office is an office with 1 doctor and 1 or 2 staff where as clinic is a large with several doctors.
      We say clinic for everything here.

    Thank you for this amazing video. I learned a lot from it. Well, for me, I 'm not used to get nervous whike booking fir something on phone in French or in Arabic, but it' s not the case in English. It's a bit of challenge, but after this video, I got the feet on the door to do it more and more frequently and comfortably as well. Thank you again!

    At first, I was afraid of making appointments on phone calls. After I became a medical student I can make them confidently.
    Thanks God😂

    Is it common for a clinic secretary to use "alrighty" in this situation? Can I mimic that in a similar setting?

    Great video again. You seem to know how to make me understand a still learn something.
    I don't like to schedule an appointment over the phone in any language, especially if the other person is impatient.
    I tend to speak slow and I used to stutter a lot.
