If you are not a fan of longdrops or digging a hole, the Porta Potti 565E & 565P Camp Toilet from Thetford is the luxurious portable toilet for you.
The 565E has an electric flushing system, a higher seat than other models in the Porta Potti range, is made from light high-quality durable plastic, with a nifty toilet paper roll holder integrated into the base and a 21L holding capacity.
In this video, our teammate Ben gives you the lowdown on the Porta Potti 565E from Thetford. He starts out with talking you through the dimensions, and then compares it to the 565P model from Theford.
After that, Ben shows you all the external features of the unit, how to add batteries to the electric flushing system, where to put the additives, and how to release the waste into the holding tank, use the flush, empty the waste holding tank, and how to transport it - so check it out above for all the details.

Brilliant. Thanks you. The instructions in the box are pathetic but your video is soooooo helpful

good vid.

Thanks Ben. I wanted to empty it out ASAP after use, like maybe one hour or so, cause it's in a travel van, and the manual says it shouldn't hold too much liquid(3/4 full) for risk of spillage while in motion. would you know from experience that if emptying that soon after use liquid would come out of the spout? I see you also mention chemicals last 4 days in the waste tank, does that mean that after 4 days you should empty the tank and add new ones?
You need to put some water in the waste tank when adding the chemicals anyway so your waste will still pour out of the cassette, as to how liquified it is is dependent on how long the waste has been there but I don't think you need to be overly concerned, just empty it whenever you are near a dump point. The 4 day recommendation is likely based on how long the chemicals remain effective for, generally people empty their toilets every 1-2 days anyway. ~ Ben

Do you think Borax and Dawn would work with these? It works great in my RV black tank.
I'm not sure sorry, Dino, being the retailer we are best to advise that the recommended Thetford products are used, but hopefully someone in the camping community can offer some feedback on whether or not they have tried this. ~ Ben
Is there a manual override if the flusher batteries die? I'll be carrying spares with me, but just wondered if the company thought of this.
Good question, Ann, as far as I am aware there isn't a manual override option if you have an electric pump, and there is no mention of it in the user manual. You may need to use a jug of water if the pump fails. ~ Ben
is it possible to change from an electric pump to a hand pump
@@stko4157 someone on another video said you could order the manual pump from Europe but couldn't get it in the US.
Great video, quick question, if the batteries go out can you manual flush it as an option?
The 565E is electrical, and the 565P is manual @thpq...neither have interchangeable functions. The 565E cannot be used if the batteries goes flat, so carry some spares. If you dont want to bother with all that, then go with the 565P.

@@SnowysOutdoors thank you for the information very helpful
Please let me know if you know any similar product that also comes with spray jet/faucet to clean the a$s 😅 (as you known most asian toilets don't have toilet paper and they prefer to use water faucet for cleaning)
I'm personally not aware of a portable bidet toilet, sorry @Two Crazy Souls
~ Lauren
Can you recommend a product for the cleaner liquid that you put in the top section?
There are a few options here, Dsomething Vyea - www.snowys.com.au/portable-toilet-chemicals. The Thetford Aqua Rinse in the pink bottle is a popular choice. ~ Ben
Good evening, is it possible for this or any other porta potty to be sent to Cusco city, Peru?
We only ship within Australia sorry, Isaac. Thetford is an intentional company though, so it is likely you have a supplier near you somewhere. ~ Ben
the toilets are on amazon. and upon googling it says amazon will ship to lima peru. also, you could also try the thetford website.
how long after use does it take for the chemicals in the waste holding tank to liquify waste? I'm interested in emptying waste tank as quick as possible in only liquid form. Also, there are different brands of waste tank treatment, like aqua max, aqua bio, and campa fresh. Do they all perform the same?
I can't seem to find anywhere that specifies a timeframe, Mauricia, but the chemicals generally last 4-5 days in the toilet and I know many people empty their toilets every 1-2 days without issue. I suspect that as long as you are using a quick to degrade toilet paper you should be fine within about a day. It's the paper that tends to take longer to break down and cause blockages. ~ Ben

Hello, I found your review very informative with the exact information I was looking for. We will be using one of these Porta potties inside our pool shed. What I need to know is there a septic safe chemical to use in the waste tank? Would we need a chemical if emptied more frequently? Or is there a better Porta potty option for our circumstance?
Thank you.
just use white vinegar. Safer and cheaper
G'day Aknick5, thanks for your feedback! You can check out the Thetford Aqua Rinse Pink and Thetford Aqua Kem Green products which are confirmed septic safe (Test ISO 11734), and compatible for use with any kind of portable toilet - www.snowys.com.au/aqua-kem-green
Cheers,
Sonia
There is a chemical for septic disposal it’s called Aqua green, look it up, if you have septic? You must use aqua green.
@@jusbeemeephotography2952 This is my plan- the vinigar wont eat the plastic?
@@jacattax as long as you don't do too much vinegar it should be just fine
Were can you get a New Electric Pump? Or can you get a Manual pump? Mine did not last at all.
You may need to get intouch with Thetford directly if you need replacement parts. As far as I'm aware you cant turn an electric toilet into a manual one.
If its failed within the warranty period, follow it up with the customer service team wherever you bought it from.
~ Lauren
Hi, are you familer with the less expensive Thetford Campa Potti MT? I'm wondering if it seals as well as the other Thetfords and if it is polyurethane. It's only $74 US dollars. Thank you.
We're not sorry, doesn't look like a model that's available in Australia
~ Lauren
dont u wanna close the valve fill with some water and then poop ?? does that not save u alot of cleaning mess ?
I believe that the instructions for the toilets actually recommend that you do this, Dicky O, turns out I should have read them first 🤣. ~ Ben
How many flushes do batteries last?
Thetford don't specify this, Branson, I'd suggest taking spare batteries with you on any trip though. ~ Ben
I bought a part Thetford 92306 Porta Potti 565E (Electric) Portable Toilet, White-Gray, 448 x 388 x 450 mm I have a problem after starting the electric pump is inefficient, could I install a manual pump instead, will it fit? If so, please provide the link of the manual pump, I want to buy it. I will ask again if the manual pump will fit in place of the electric one, thank you
As far as I'm aware you cannot replace the electric pump for a manual bellows @st ko...I'd recommend contacting wherever you bought it from so they can trouble shoot for you. If you picked it up from Snowys, head to our Warranty page:

@@SnowysOutdoors that's very bad
How much water do we put in the for the rinse water and the waste water?
The rinse/flush water tank has a 15l capacity and you can fill this up. The waste water tank just needs enough water to cover the base of the tank, probably a litre at the most I reckon. ~ Ben
Dometic 976 vs the 565e? Long term quality? Leaks? Pros? Which would you purchase for your family?
I personally like to go with the simplest option, Branson, which means I steer away from the electronic functions such as the flush button. That's just my personal preference though and I think you'd be happy with either model you mention here as they are comparable when it comes to performance and quality. I'd suggest you base your decision on the dimensions of the toilets to best suit the storage/transport space you have. Seat height is another important element for many. ~ Ben
Where is the optional floor plate to secure the toilet to an RV floor. Thx
Is this what you are referring to, Jim? - www.snowys.com.au/floor-plate-for-porta-potti-excellence-565

~ Ben
what additives are right for this?
Any of the Thetford additives will be fine in this toilet. Pink for the flushwater and green or blue for the waste tank. ~ Ben
does it tip over easily if you don't bolt it down?
Not super easily from just using it, but you'd want it secure whilst driving around in your caravan or camper.
~ Lauren
Any suggestions for winter time?
Hmmm, not sure what you are looking for here sorry, Sean. I'd suggest you wear gloves and a beanie to stay warm, maybe a toilet tent to shelter you whilst you are on the job.
Let me know if there is something specific you want advice on.
~ Ben
use a biodegradable antifreeze in the top tank. ratio would depend on the temps it will be in. i'd email Thetford. com and ask them. i think RV atnifreeze would be ok
Where can I purchase the bag to carry it in?
Grab yourself one of these in the XL size, Jan - www.snowys.com.au/australian-made-porta-potti-portable-toilet-bag/. They are tough as nails and made with a PVC base that will protect from any accidental spills whilst in transit.
~ Ben
I bought mine last month and the bag came as part of a package deal. I’m super happy with the height of this toilet. Won’t get to use it until 2nd half of 2021 but I feel like I’ll be glamping with this dunny.
Approx how many times can someone use this before having to empty it?
Depends on what you ate for dinner, but Thetford recommend emptying every 5-7 days. ~ Ben
@@SnowysOutdoors 🤣
Here in the states the P model is about $100 more that the E model?? I’d prefer the E, less to go wrong!
Thats interesting @Bob Shanley! I would have thought the E would be more $$.

PRACTICE TOILET OPERATION WHEN NEW! i can't stress that enough. don't assume you'll now how to operate when you get to camp or an emegency araises. or even use it a few days in your own bathroom, including dumping it in your home toilet.
Practice makes perfect, good advice I reckon thanks, crabtrap. ~ Ben
You can’t get the pump in the US
Really! Thetford is an international brand, so that surprises me. ~ Ben
Shouldn't you FINISH before opening the latch to the bottom half / exposing smells and previous deposits?
I assume you mean the black trapdoor at the bottom? If so, then yes, you can finish then open the trapdoor, I think this is what Thetford recommend, but either way is going to work. A few squares of toilet paper before you deposit will help keep things clean too. ~ Ben
Do you think electric and manual which one is better ?
Both do the same job. Electric requires less effort but you need to make sure you have batteries, manual is more work but it's not difficult by any means and works without batteries. All personal preference really. ~ Ben
@@SnowysOutdoors That's very helpful thanks very much for your recommendations. I will order it as a birthday gift for my partner's mom.

whats annoying is they didnt think of a storage for the seal valve.
I'm not sure what you mean by storage of the seal valve, do you mean a spare? ~ Ben
Batteries on the top, I'd drink whisky and piss all over me batteries, think al get the pump version.
Each to their own I guess, The lulz boat. Not sure I'd want to touch either a button or a pump to flush the toilet after you've been if this was the case anyway. :) ~ Ben

Ben, I love your sense of humour 👏
Another design that doesn't consider men who sit down to pee. All that side TP holder accomplishes is to reduce capacity in the waste waterside of the toilet.
How does it not accommodate men sitting and pissing? Thinking of buying this
My thoughts exactly, why can't we sit down and pee? ~ Ben
I don't want to give a thumbs down, one of the complaints I've read is that the electric pump is extremely noisy. That was pretty much the purpose of me watching the video, to see how loud it actually is. Unfortunately, that is not demonstrated.
We use demo stock that can still be sold sorry MrClay, so cant actually set this one up as an operational toilet.

If it's any leaks I do a refund?
If there are any leaks within the warranty period, Larry, then it should be covered. With proper care and use you shouldn't have any problems with a Thetford though. ~ Ben
