Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Xsplit all have a feature to remove the background of your webcam without a green screen.
OBS has a couple different ways to do the same thing, but the most popular way is to use NVIDIA Broadcast with an RTX graphics card.
But there is now an OBS plugin that adds a virtual green screen filter which you can use with any source. Even better, you don’t need to use NVIDIA Broadcast and you don’t need an RTX card! Although, you’ll still get better results with an RTX card...

This is pretty sweet Nutty, can't seem to get video filter on the source mirror just yet, but will try it more when I get back to my main rig. (It'll be a non issue as I have RTX on that machine anyways, but I'm curious) Thanks for showing off the possibilities of this!

Dude. You just saved me some actual IN GAME performance. I have loved Broadcast since it launched but it is hard to deny that it actually impacts gaming performance for CERTAIN games. This should free up that little bit of a performance hit for me. I was looking for this EXACT solution.

Insanely helpful! So I tried the NVIDIA broadcast bg removal feature and for some reason it made my mouse laggy af. I tried it a bunch of different ways and it messed with my mouse every time. Running it this way works flawless!

I've been using it as a way to track my goals, keep track of all of my ideas for twitch, AND I even have a folder for youtube tutorials (a bunch of yours are in there) that I would like to implement into twitch - then I keep track of those numbers to see how successful the new things are. Its been a really useful tool for me so far. Also, thank you for this tutorial!! I now have a bunch of new ideas for my streams

I've actually been playing with those kinds of effects using Nvidia broadcast, but I've never been able to make it work convincingly so I'm surprised this works so well!

I think it would be really funny to do the effect you mentioned where you greenscreen yourself outside of the frame (9:12) but make the background bigger so it's not noticable most of the time, and then on rare occasion just reach out of the frame and make the viewers do a double take

Thanks for sharing Nutty! Now I can rearrange my stream setup and not have to worry about a green screen behind me! Just an FYI. I originally downloaded StreamFX (for OBS® Studio) 0.11.1a1 and the plug-in did not show up. I uninstalled that and installed the stable version StreamFX 0.11.0 and it is working perfectly! Very cool. There is a slight shimmer/white outline around certain parts of my head when using the filter that isn't there when using Nvidia Broadcast but its slight. I also notice it does things a little differently with the arms of my chair. Having it be a filter opens up so many more possibilities though.

Hey there Nutty, thanks for the informative video. I have been using this but was curious about the fact that ever time i open obs Studio i have to manually go back in ever time and reset the Greenscreen as it doesnt automatically start when i load. any suggestions for that?
Also a side note, the webesite does specify that there is a 2 second deal for that gets caused so that can be counterd in the advanced settings from and selecting -2ms for the video capture source, and if on 60fps adjusting to -4ms to counter that delay.
this worked amazingly, except for when i close OBS, it doesn't seem to save the stream fx . i have to install stream fx everytime i open OBS (multiple times/day). any suggestions on how to fix this? nvidia route

5:36 - 7:14 I followed the "Non-RTX Method" and once I completed the instructions for that section of the video I noticed a problem. The green filter sits on top (covers my webcam). How could I fix that? This issue persists with my camera and video capture card filters.
Hey guys, it works great but when I shut down OBS and load it back up the affect doesn't stay, any reason why?
Anyone else install this and it not work? It shows up in the list of filters but doesn't actually apply any effect to the source (my camera or even an image)

I cannot add the background removal to my filter, the option doesn't come up for me in obs, and I don't have an rtx, anyone else have that problem?
i have a HP Omen 15 EN0375 with RTX 2060 and this is not working on my OBS 27.0.1
I am testing it with the HP Webcam...installed it like you said but the effect wont do anything...
If i use it via Nvidia Broadcast it is working...but not as a standalone with OBS and the SDK Video Effect....

For those that install the OBS plugin and are highly confused as to the background colour setting missing - the developer has made the feed auto transparent so no need to set a colour - unfortunately this strips out those advanced use cases and mirroring as discussed in the video. Also not the filter is not in Audio/Video but in Effects.
ive tried using both the software for nvidia and without and i defo prefer the without option for me its more clearer with my camera

Great tips. Any idea why there is always a delay between the keyed mirror source and the cam?
Any reason as to why with the Nvidia GreenScreen filter is turned on, the greenscreen effect doesn't toggle? I've used Broadcast for a while now and it has worked as needed, just not the filter in OBS. I have optimal lighting and have never had problems with Broadcast not being able to pick me up. I've even tried restarting OBS and computer.

wow the non rtx addon looks pretty good for not having rtx or green screen ! but cpu usage skyrocketed from 3 to 50 so will kinda have to pass on that , thanks for the video !

i dont know why but obs doesnt add the background when I have streamFX installed. i can use it when I dont have it installed but then I dont have the source mirror plugin
when i turn off obs and start it over,plugin resets to default and shows my background again,then i have to just change mode from quality to performance then it works.Is it happening to you also?
Dude! Can you get on the dev to make Background Remover work on mirrored sources? Virtual greenscreen makes my frame render time toooo loooong!
I downloaded from the nvidia website the visual you showed you download but it still doesn't show in my OBS. Any thoughts how to fix this ?

Can't get the background removal plugin for nonRTX cards to use the GPU. I switched it from CPU to GPU DirectML and I am still getting like 30-50% CPU usage just sitting in OBS not recording or streaming. This is with a 6800XT and a 5900X!??? What am I doing wrong here? I'm using a Logi Streamcam at 1080p60fps even switching to 30fps doesn't help much.
Please, I need help from anyone! I used the windows.exe installer for StreamFX 11.1 from the download page, and when it finished installing, the virtual green screen filter doesn't appear in the list of effect filters. I am using an RTX 2080 in my system, and I downloaded and installed the SDK file from Nvidia. Please, someone help me to get the virtual green screen filter to appear. Is there a zip file for StreamFX 11.0+ anywhere that I can download and manually install to OBS myself?
When I install the video effects driver I dont know where the location is so I dont knnow how to put it in obs studio pls help?

5:50 - My OBS doesn't have that listed. My list starsts with compressor. Is it taken away because it's not possible with the onboard camera is my system requirements holding it back? I have the latest OBS downloaded.
This is great - but if on a single streaming PC setup: OUCH. This will still use up some of the GPU and if you're gaming and streaming off the same GPU and adding this. DOH!
Yup greenscreen alone uses 20%+ of my 3070, hope they optimize it more in the future.
Hey everyone, I'm new to OBS and this works great! The only issue is that I don't have the Rainbow filter in my streamfx. Is there a way for me to download the rainbow effect and others I may want?

I got all excited, installed it, and every setting of the non-RTX background removal makes me drop massive frames, render time per frame is 50ms or more, while task manager shows nothing above 50% usage. Ryzen 7 1700 + GTX 980 :(
That's no Bueno.
tbh. Even w rtx cards. U really gotta watch these types of programs cuz they will ruin ur frametimes and fps and stuff sometimes. It doesn’t matter when ur just gaming. But if ur streaming gaming on 1 pc it absolutely can hurt performance. But in my opinion nvidia broadcast is the best one I’ve used other than the 10 fps it costs to use sometimes.
I have a titan xp gpu 12gb which says rtx on it but not an RTX card. Would it work ?
I ran into an issue where the virtual greenscreen doesnt function when I close and reopen OBS. I have to remove and insert the virtual greenscreen everytime. Anyone has a solution for this?
Hey Nutty? Please help me! I have followed your video and am trying to use the filter. I have an RTX 2080 Super. When I go into OBS and click on the camera to add a filter it shows that the filter is added but then nothing changes in the viewer. In your video as soon as you apply the filter your background disappears, mine stays exactly the same. WTF am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance!
