I would always move my box around further toward the back seats,away from the back seats rear seats folded down, folded up box forward, box backwards, facing up in every combo till I found that right one. I loved that system .. it banged.. hatchbacks made it way louder

Pioneer head unit (dont remember what model, it was the first one they made with like a screen saver type of thing. This was back in 2001. So not nearly the amount of gear available as there is now. Dollar a watt amps lol. But I had a generic sealed box. My car was a 94 Celica GT, nice small car with the hatchback. Had box rear facing obviously , about a 30⁰ incline firing right the lower part of the window in the hatchback. It was stupid loud. You couldnt have it playing without cracking a window or the sunroof. Pressure would want your ear drums to do things they aren't supposed to do. But yeah, wasnt anything crazy, the W7s weren't even a thing yet.
I'll have to try the trunk thing. Nice build! I'm all about the dual 0 gauge input adapters. Really makes a difference. Noticed my sub amp ran cooler after doubling the wires too.

from what i seen 20 years ago with old school power Rockford subs alot of people ran there subs facing tords the back of trunk but then when we use to go to the bass comps we would turn the box around and take Buggie strap so the trunk would just be open like 3 inches and it was louder
Depends on the car. Every frequency has a distance, a 30Hz wave is 37' long, so if the inside of the car is short, turning the sub around makes the travel longer and you end up with a cleaner hit that's not distorted by the next wave. Which equals louder. It's also why popping the trunk can help, too much pressure inside the car will dampen the subs ability to hit, you basically turn the car into a bandpass with no port.
If I face the box forward its louder with trunk open (not sealed off). If firing towards the rear its obviously louder trunk closed. I bet he seals it off and its louder trunk closed.

Great build... Mine was setup similar, was way louder with the trunk open... Then I had a shop seal off the box from the trunk and I got the same volume with the trunk closed and open... Definitely seal off the box from the trunk

I had a single 15 walled 6th order rhe drivers side had a massive port to let air in with hatch open the drivers door also bolted shut it was nasty ! Probably 2 db maybe 3 louder hatch open it made a world of a difference for windy demos. Actually jacob i sent you a picture of the build on your Facebook a few years back
I noticed my system sounds louder with the windows down, doesn’t have to be all the way just about halfway or even less but definitely a noticeable difference

When I had my 2006 Impala built it was louder trunk unsealed and open too right around the same numbers as him too except mine peaked at 37hz and was tuned to 35
I have a 2010 Malibu with 215s in the trunk and I am louder with the trunk open as well, I have Subs up firing at the back dash and Airport going into the cabin with the seats folded down, doing a 45 in the kick on a car audio bargain 2K
Appreciate it! I tore it all down and added 2 layers of deadening and spray foamed the supports on the roof. Zv5 12s, new amps for subs and mids, new mids, pretty much same box
@@scamchan depends on the 15s. I refuse to load off the trunk space and is why my subs/port face into the cabin, so I can't run 15s, even though I have the air space needed for any of Sundowns upper level subs(X, Z, NS)

Let me chime in on this subject since I have about 30 years experience with trunk builds and car audio. The reason why it's not as loud with subs facing forward in trunk cars is because of cancellation. The inherent problem with trunk cars is that the trunk acts like a secondary enclosure, the front waves intersect with the rear waves and "cancel" each other out. I don't know the exact science behind it, but all I know is that this has been my experience. Maybe somebody more knowledgeable can chime on the physics of it. When you open the trunk it lets the "cancellation waves" escape and make it sound like it would in a hatchback or SUV. Only problem is you can't drive around with your trunk open. So, to not get any cancellation in a trunk build, the subs need to face back or the box needs to be as far back to the rear as possible, this is the common way. But, the main problem is that you are now pressurizing the crap out of the trunk! Not to mention it sounds like a rattling piece of mess, unless you sound deaden it properly. But still, most of your output will be in the trunk and not the interior, hence the reason why they build walls. So the way around this is you have to SEAL off the trunk from the interior! In my opinion this the only and best way to do a trunk build. This is what I have done with my 4th order build with port through the center armrest and there is little to no output or sound difference whether trunk is open or closed. That's how I know it's sealed off properly. I'm getting most of my SPL in the interior, not to mention much deeper and louder bass. Now I can't stop my doors, windshield and roof from flexing way more than it should for having only a 3K. Plus it sounds clean as hell on the outside, no annoying rattle or anything! So by taking this extra step and effort, you now have a trunk build with the benefits of a hatchback or SUV but in a smaller space. If you have a trunk car, take the extra step to do this, it will be worth your time and you can still sit 5 people in your car 🤙

I have 2 2.5k watts rms 10s from skar in a 13 nissan juke. Only problem I have is I cant find a bigger altenator for my car so unfortunately I'm limited to my power output, but it still bangs super hard. Still cracked my first windshield with it lol
Man I had a Chevrolet Berretta back in the 90s had the same set up with plexiglass and black light in the trunk cause the seats would fold down in the center in the back
I had 2 12s facing the hatch window, 2 tens facing the back seats (usually folded down) running 3500w could get it lower with windows cracked little and sunroof open
So many different ways to run your trunk system and get a 150 I’ve seen subs facing upwards backwards forward sealed off and not sealed off.could be the make and model of the car and which way the port is firing all these things play a roll in how it plays in a trunk system.Mine system play louder with the trunk closed with my ports in the rear firing on the drivers side.

The reason it plays louder open is because it’s not sealed off. The open trunk allows the bass waves to escape so they don’t cause cancelation.

They can act as a heat sink. You’re just adding mass and reducing load per power wire.

So many different ways to run your trunk system and get a 150 I’ve seen subs facing upwards backwards forward sealed off and not sealed off.could be the make and model of the car and which way the port is firing all these things play a roll in how it plays in a trunk system.Mine system play louder with the trunk closed with my ports in the rear firing on the drivers side.
How do you get your box to be tune that low?
