Now the English are gone and it’s 2021, you still want us to honor agreements done while both you and Egypt were a colony? If the English care for you so much they can pipe the Tames and send you their water!! They have no business dictating rules. You on the other hand are not slaves anymore, quit trying to force rules made up by colonial powers upon us because we know the international rules that apply to rivers that flow through multiple countries. We will use what we require as a source country and will let you and Sudan have the rest. If you think you will create small wars to disrupt our construction, wars won’t last for ever but you will still need the water and we will never forget what you have been doing to our country, in the end you will pay for it

Melvin Aziz 1st off Ethiopia isn't trying to starve any one and Ethiopia also said it will fill the dam from 4-7 years as to where Egypt said it want Ethiopia to fill the dam 15-20 years does that seam fair to you and in Ethiopia about 50% percent of the population don't have electrical power and also another 50 clean water so again does this seem fair and also why does Egypt always bring up colonial era treaties wc Ethiopia wasn't part of as it was not anyone's colony and the fact of the matter is the 1st phase of the filling of the dam was completed with In 2 weeks and also if you wanna talk about water resources we know about the aquifer water reserve under ground wc literally is about 1 trillion cubic meters then why don't you use that ?
NTLuck Ethiopia has the long term benefit in mind nothing short term about it and since when has Egypt been a neighbor of Ethiopia you never have and you never will be see we just figured it out in this world we have no friends only leaches whom come close to you if they want something so we will do what's good for our national interest not for yours! And also Ethiopia has stated that it is not out to harm Egypt but you ppl just make it look like we are out to kill you as if that's in our nature . The sad thing is you ppl are being puppets for your government by being led by emotion rather than rationality it's just sad really you gulp everything they give you just like a baby being fed but spoon !
Melvin Aziz the problem with the minimum limit of water being set is what if Ethiopia it's self is hit with a drought do you expect it to give you water whitest its ppl die of thirst ? Be rational here pls and FYI the deal relating to the filling of the dam has been agreed upon the problem is that Egypt wants to make Ethiopia sign a deal wc would make Ethiopia ask Egypt and Sudan before constructing other projects on the Nile wc obviously Ethiopia won't agree to!

Egypt's arguments (treaties made with colonial powers a century ago) and military threats are absolutely laughable. I wish they had that kind of energy towards Israel, but somehow they assume Ethiopia should take orders from Cairo. As a Somali and neighbor of Ethiopia, I fully support Ethiopia and wish them nothing but success. If the Nile began in Egypt, they would have built dozens of dams without any consultation of downstream nations.
Egypt is not against building the dam and all the negotiations between the two countries is about the time period it is filled within so that they do it in a way that doesn't kill 100 million person and i don't understand why you think that egypt want to kill everyone
@@mariamahmed-ei8js I never said Egypt wants to kill everyone, but Egypt did make military threats to blow up the dam before any negotiations with Ethiopia. That's insulting.

But now we are open for negotiating an agreement, otherwise the other option shall be to really bring it down. Egypt's problem with Ethiopia isn't the dam itself but rather Ethiopia's plan to fill the reservoir in as fast a time as possible thus severely limiting water access to a mostly desert country. Like you said in the video, normally a reservoir the size of the one in Ethiopia would take 15-20 years to fill. During that time Egypt can depend on its own reservoir in lake Nasser but if Ethiopia carries on with its selfish plan to fill the reservoir within 2 years then you both Egypt and Sudan will suffer a drought not seen in a thousand years. Can Ethiopia handle the fallout of such an event? Wars have been fought for lesser reasons but when you threaten the lives of almost a 100 million people just so you can better your own living conditions then I would not be surprised if we see a war on the horizon. Please bear in mind that I am not saying that Ethiopia does not have the right to build the dam or better the living conditions and economy of their country but rather they do not have the right to take an entire nation hostage for their own benefit.
Very well said. Ethiopia must agree on filling the dam not faster than 10 years and it MUST agree on a guaranteed, minimum waterflow Level to Egypt (guaranteed Withholding Limit that is Not a Problem for Egypt). Only then both countries can benefit in the long run and only then the dam is a fair, defendable Project, seen from an objective, rational standpoint.
@@dimarak8866 exactly. People seem to not realize that the GRD is actually going to be a godsend for both Sudan and Egypt IF it's responsibly handled. The GRD has the potential to bring those three nations together more than anything else yet short-sightedness can lead to disasters

Egyptian worry more for losing controlling power on the Nile river not the water they lose by the dam built. For over 100 years Egypt was the only powerful country that control the flow of the Nile river. But now things changed, Ethiopia also going to br another country that has power on the Nile. That is what they don't like most. Other issues like drought, Killing of millions in Egypt.. bla bla... are just used for media propaganda. But I believe Egyptian should be familiar with the facts. The GERD dam is built on a river that originated from Ethiopia, in her own natural resource. Second Egyptian should know Ethiopia increasing influence and power on the Nile is not a treat to Egypt. I am Sudanese and I believe a new water deal that is fair to all Nile basin countries needs to happen, even if it affects our water supply. But what people don't understand is that the negotiations are not related to this specific point right now. Egypt has a very harsh desert climate and an insane population growth, so it would make sense for them to oppose this dam. In Sudan, our main problem is coordination between Ethiopia on the filling and emptying of the reservoir. Our biggest dam is less than 40kms away from the GERD, so unless there is synchronisation between the 2 governments on filling and emptying, it could have serious damaging effects on our water and electrical supplies. That is why Sudan was neutral at first to the project, but has recently been a strict opposer to the GERD after Ethiopia filled it unilaterally last July, which lead to some of the worst power cuts we have had for almost a decade as our dam went out of service. I don't think this dam will ever be good news unless the 3 countries actually give a priority to the technical issues of the dam, rather than using it as a political tool of leverage and war. Hopefully, I wish this ends peacefully for all 3 of us.
Why power cuts? Dont u mean water cuts? I was in egypt this past summer & experienced 2 phases of water cuts that lasted the whole day each..idk if this is because of the dam
As I said, our nearest dam is only 40kms away from the GERD. Last July when Ethiopia filled the dam unilaterally, the resorvoir of Al Roseiris dam was practically empty. Its full capacity is very small when compared to the GERD. So electricity couldn't be generated and power cuts happened. Al Roseiris is also responsible for supplying half of our country's electricity.
In Egypt, 105 million people live on 55 billion meters of the Nile water, that is, below the international water poverty level, and in Ethiopia 110 million people live on 900 billion cubic meters of water, then they talk about Egypt's domination of the Nile water

If the Ethiopian forests disappear the Nile waters will dry up anyway! Egypt and Sudan on the other hand should be responsible enough. They ought to launch a national mega campaign to use their Nile waters wisely by planting and nurturing trees to green their vast deserts in order to create their own forests which invariably will bring rainfall, translating to more sources of water at their disposal generated within their own borders.
They don’t realize that ecosystems have no borders, they don’t care what happens on the Ethiopian Abbay (Blue Nile), side of the water as long as the water keeps flowing. @@omarsabry9489 the water that to be stored at the dam will be through gradual process, not overnight. Also consider the amount of water wasted at the desert through evaporation. About the soil, I think, Egyptians stored a lot yet and this days, they need more other options than fully depending on the river.
@@omarsabry9489 The water stored in Ethiopia is not permanent. Once the reservoir behind the dam is filled up, the flow of the river will return to normal. And even IF Ethiopia wanted to horde more water, they physically can not do so, or else their reservoir would overflow. So don't worry. Once the reservoir fills up, it's filled for good, and the amount of water coming out of the Blue Nile will return to normal levels. What Ethiopia really needs to do is to pay Egypt reparations so that they can afford to import water whilst the reservoir is being filled. I think Ethiopia will have to agree to this. If not, foreign powers will surely intervene. A crisis of this possible scale - endangering millions - would guarantee foreign aid for Egypt, and a global condemnation for Ethiopia. Ethiopia may be in a self-centered state right now, but they're not stupid enough to make the world their enemy. As for the precious soil, I hate to break it to you, but Egypt already loses over 95% of all the sediment flowing down from the Nile river at Lake Nasser. It physically cannot pass through the Aswan Dam, and therefore it gets stuck and just builds up on the lakebed of Lake Nasser. This causes several problems. 1: Lake Nasser get shallower and less effective because the floor of the lakebed is rising, 2: The soil on the banks of the Nile downstream have lost their fertility and now require substantial amounts of chemical fertilizers to sustain their use for growing crops, and 3: The Nile River Delta, no longer fed and grown by sediment deposition, is slowly sinking into the Mediterranean Sea. This is simply the problem with dams. It's inescapable.

To preface, I'm just an American who only recently learned about this issue, so I apologize if I look stupid, but this dam is supposed to be able to bring Ethiopia in the big bucks, right? So here's a plan I'd like to propose: Step 1: Sell bonds to individuals and governments the world over until you've amassed funds equal to the value of the total water Egypt consumes in four years. Step 2: build the dam, but construct it such that the waterflow can never be 100% shut down, so that Egypt doesn't have to worry about you ever threatening to do as much in the future. Step 3: Pay Egypt the money they need to buy water while the dam's reservoir fills. Step 4: Once the reservoir fills and water starts flowing into Egypt again, use the income brought in by the dam to pay back your investors.
To Egyptians in the comments, take pride in your long culture and history rather than your powerful military that can 'rival Russia and USA' and 'Invade Ethiopia' the former is a good thing to take pride in, the latter, well, the Egyptian military has probably killed more Egyptians throughout its existence than foreign combatants.

@@mr.cannon2973 but egypt let's all the water in the aswan dam evaporate, maybe if they care so much about water they can take care of it better

All experts and politicians in Egypt know the dam in Ethiopia will not cause harm to Egypt if it is filled between 5-10 years. But just not to take any risk they want Ethiopia to pay the price. 3. And we will not forget that Egypt offered them a dam project elsewhere that would have generated more energy for them, and they refused
Do you know why?
Because they are governments that feel inferior and pitiful
Al Roseiris is also responsible for supplying half of our country's electricity.

who did everyone right why in first place Ethiopia didn't make it joint project for both water and electricity in fact Egypt in 1960s ask for this project Ethiopia will get money and constructed companies from Egypt Egypt already build dam in Tanzania will be the biggest in size
but of course Ethiopia won't love this because that will make Egypt control the Nile in fact that not something bad Egypt have great ability to lead the region Egypt best country in Africa in Management water recourse Egypt very poor in water and lands is 3rd in Africa in agriculture so Egypt have abilities
in fact also Ethiopia will gain power so what is the problem
easy answer Israel when all African stand against invasions Ethiopia start relationship with Israel why because Israel want to control Nile
so in fact it wasn't about poor people who need food and electricity
ok Egypt war with Israel end so what happened next of course tigry who lead Ethiopia started to lose power how to gain power easy answer make gaint project so all Ethiopian look at you as best government strong government and what happened in Egypt revolution in 2011 so in fact Ethiopia used Egypt weak time to escape negotiations
and what is worst why on earth you build gaint dam when you have many rivers and drought problems
so why you don't build like any other country many small dams which easy to transfer electricity to cities and villages in case of one big dam most Ethiopian villages won't have electricity because dam is so far away which need complex Electricity network but if every region have dam and every river have small dam every villages and city will have electricity
second which is most important thing million of Ethiopian dead or affect from the drought in other country like Egypt have no problem with drought because the high dam
which is water management dam in fact Without the high dam it will be impossible for Ethiopia to build the dam because if Egypt water share decreased million of Egyptian will have no job millions will be poor UN will never accept that
so my point water management dams can save Ethiopian in will make Ethiopia best country in Africa in agriculture and Ethiopia can gain alot of support from Egypt experts and companies Egypt companies is better from Chinese company because one thing
Chinese company will own your country and you can't do anything to pay thim but in Egypt case Egypt need this project Nile river need very good management which mean more water for Egypt and Nile river countries also trade Egypt is most country in the world import import wheat in fact Egypt start project to connect Nile countries by river transportation so projects like this will have great economic value in other hand the Grant dam didn't have great economic value because in first place when any one make project first thing you need to know is how this project will be against other project and now all countries start to use Egypt needs for energy Egypt want to be region energy power Egypt already have 5 times the Grant dam capacity unused
Egypt will export electricity to eroupe and gulf countries and Arab countries and Egypt start to do that
also Egypt will export gas and oil
so Egypt now support any energy project in Africa Egypt already build Tanzania dam and many small dams in kynia and also Egypt gave Congo alot support in inga dam which will produce about 80,000 megawatt 13x Ethiopian dam because one resoean Congo river flow is more than 10x the blue Nile flow so Ethiopian project have no chance against Congo river and like I said Egypt will support Congo river even Congo river will connect to Egyptian electricity network to expert electricity to eroupe which mean alot of money to congo and Egypt

They will store some of the water in Ethiopia, preventing the much needed water from reaching Egypt. Also, the Nile carries soil with it. As much as Egyptians need water, they also need its soil.

So here's a plan I'd like to propose:
Step 1: Sell bonds to individuals and governments the world over until you've amassed funds equal to the value of the total water Egypt consumes in four years.
