    I bought this lens for my a6500 and it is AMAZING! I bought it over the Rokinon 12mm. The laowa 9mm is sharper than the Rokinon IMO. I would say sharpness for the Laowa 9mm is on par with sigma 30 & 16mm, but since it is manual focus it's not a fair comparison. Manual focus isn't for everyone. If you ever decide to purchase the Laowa 9mm I highly recommend a good polarize filter to go with it.

    I really like my Canon EF 10-18mm, $235 refurbished from the Canon Store. In that I have no complaints about the 10-18mm, I sure wouldn't pay twice as much for a 9mm lens. I shoot real estate interiors and exteriors, always at F 7.1. If there is furniture in the room you need good depth of field in order for everything to be in focus. For exterior shots I switch over to the Sigma 17-50 F 2.8. Light Room does a good job of straightening things up. For real estate interior videos the 9mm at F 2.8 would be a winner, 1/60 ss, F 2.8, auto ISO.

    I find for real estate video, pans left and right, up and down with a wide angle make the movement of architecture at the edges look weird. Slider type shots on a slider or gimbal are much better in my opinion

      We all have our preferences for camera movements. I agree that slider shots look great with architecture. Though remember that vertical rotational camera movements are known as tilts.

    Packaging is similar to that used by Citizen watches. I have the magnesium case a6400 (bought on your suggestion instead of the cheaper plastic a6300)and 9mm Laowa. It is my go-to lens for architectural shots. Recently did a pic of a building and enlarged to 20x30 inch print; looked good. This is a rectilinear lens and it is THE lens to use for indoor building shots. While the lens is indeed manual focus, that is not an issue with the a6400's focusing red-target system. Most distance shots can just be set at infinity.

    A6000 user, is there improvement to the low light capability of the A6400 vs older? Love the touch screen addition. Yes for Eye AF! It's a pain on 6000, you'd think it would be possible as a firmware, but not much incentive for Sony who likely wish to move people up the model range.

    I love how they put quotations marks on zero in "Zero D(distortion)" in the Chinese description on the box, even though the lens does have minimal barrel distortion. Well, the quotation marks must be for emphasis. Nice lens. Pricey, but worth the price for the lack of barrel distortion. (it's hard to achieve zero distortion through optics with such wide lenses)

    • @John69420
      @John69420 4 года назад

      Not really. In Apsc, 9mm is equivalent to 13,5mm and 10mm on Apsc is 15mm on a fullframe camera. This lens has a 2.8 aperture tho which is great for indoor use. The Sony 10-18 has the additional focal length but a worse aperture.

      I was asking this question myself a few months ago and concluded that:
      -f2 will be slightly better for astro but depending on whereabouts you want to shoot the extra mm width might come in handy (i have the sigma 16f14 and only a few instances have i prefered the extra width
      -the rokinon is more popular (in canada at least) and finding a used copy was much easier and significantly cheaper
      -67mm filter thread is more popular and easier to find filters for

    Thank you for that! I'm not sure if anyone already answered it but the little mark you weren't sure what it was for used to be quite common when you had a lens were the travel of the of the aperture steps was less, usually half or a third in separation that is normal between the rest of the apertures on the lens, you marked where on the lens the aperture meets the correct f stop. Just to make sure that even though you couldn't turn the lens all the way, it actually is set at the minimum or maximum aperture.
    Regarding the A6400; I was wondering if the electronic viewfinder is a proper oled with high refresh rate and high resolution or if they "cheaped out" and skimped on that part. I so hate electronic view finder tearing. The old NEX 7 was the best of the lot I think.
    It is a little underwhelming with a non stabilised camera these days.

    • @bikecommuter24
      @bikecommuter24 5 лет назад +4

      Why 2 cameras?, I can't speak for anyone other than myself, but there are good reasons.
      -two bodies each with a different lens.
      -batteries last longer if one runs out of power the other usually has enough to get the shot.
      -back up if needed.
      -one can sit on a tripod and take images or video leaving the other one free.
      and why not, granted they are top line anymore but they are still great camera for stills, for video there are other choices. I got a Canon SL2-200D for that purpose. I also use a Canon 7Dmkii the a6000 is when I don't want to use the big camera
      and for times and places where the signs say "No Professional Equipment allowed" the a6000 slips under the radar put a small lens on it like the 16-50 a cursory glance they think its a point a shoot and i'll put the 55-210 in my pocket, and it works.
      Mostly why not they are small and light its easy to carry two of them.
      There are times you don't need the most high tech most expensive cameras you just want to go out and take pictures and not carry a ton of gear and the a6000 is great for that.
      besides that get an adapter and you can use a whole ton of Canon lenses, although the e mount offerings are getting better.
      I know I'm weird I like both Canon and Sony, I like the other brands too, but these cameras work for my needs .

    I have an A6300 and I intend to buy the Laowa 9mm f/2.8, however, I have never used a manual lens. I would like to use it for real estate and travel, but how can I focus properly? Is it possible to use infinity focus on the A6300?

    First time to comment here but long time viewer of your video. Really, great job for Sony APSC users like me. Kind of strange to see A6400 as an camera for photo. Instead, it’s targeting for videos but without in body stabilisation to change for better 4K and 180 degree flip screen really a good deal? I would prefer in-body stabilisation more. But the most unknown point should be the sensor. As such, photo users should not pick this thing up.

    What do you think the difference between the artisans 7.5mm and this lens? I'm trying to decide if the extra money is worth it? A comparisons video would be sweet :) but just some insight would be nice. I'm shooting on a sony 6300
    Thanks!

      Laowa places much more into lens production, while 7artisans using cheap lens, cheap production line, cheap coating etc.
      7artisans aimed to amateur, noob photographers which don't want to spend much money into just a holiday-hobby, so if you don't want to put some efforts into serious photo\video, there is no need for Laowa, just buy 7artisans and be happy with.
      Or buy some used lens instead of buying new, no bang for your budget, but still be good

      Hi Arthur! Would you recommend this lens for real estate gimbal video use or rather the 10-18 f4? I concered there about low light, and here to everything be in focus, when i'm going from smaller 2-4m2 rooms to 10-30m2 rooms in one shot? What do you think? i was alyo eyeing with the tamron 11-20 f2.8 but i think 11mm is not alwasy wide enough.? What do you think? Thanks in advance! Or any of you guys professionals that can help! :D

    Hey Arthur, how do I load Laowa's distortion profile? edit: solved it - you need to edit the file in notepad to make it work for raw. Look up 'reddit laowa 9mm sony profile' to find the edited version.

    I find the "street price" of the laowa lenses quite suspicious.
    A close relative is an anthropologist and the university she is a part of has an approved catalogue and suppliers list for buying kit for fieldwork - which includes professional cameras and lenses.
    The laowa 9mm was down for £50 UK (about $70 US) new.

    If you get the opportunity to test the a6400, please test it with adapted lenses, particularly long telephoto lenses, if you have any on hand. Particularly interested in the new AF paired with a 150-600 Sigma or Tamron. A test with the Sigma 18-35/1.8 would be nice too. Thanks in advance.
    p.s. Would like to see it tested with the Sigma MC-11 and a Metabones speedbooster as well if you have them.

    Every time you review a lense I feel the urge to go out and get one :P. I must refrain. I do have some thoughts regarding the newly announced a6400. I have an a6500. The more I'm reading about the a6400, the more I think it's more of an upgrade then not, to the a6500. First off, the sensor is ripped from the a9 from what I hear, or similar. Secondly, the autofocus is much improved. Thirdly (not a word), there's no cap on the record time. The last point is huge for me since I do art instructions and tutorials. I have been told that the lack of IBIS is very apparent when compared to the a6500 though. I'm so on the fence with this one. Flip out screen isn't even that big of a deal for me. I'm more interested in the other features. Thoughts on this? Would it benefit someone like me who owns an a6500, to switch to a 6400? Perhaps I should wait for the a7000? Lots to think about here. Sorry for the bad grammar.

    • @Thunderbird1337
      @Thunderbird1337 5 лет назад +2

      Without IBIS you limit yourself to the few Sony lenses (which are not ultrafast and not ultra sharp). The best Sony APS-C lenses (Sigma 16mm, 30mm, 56mm 1.4) all have no stabilization, so it's a huge disadvantage to have no IBIS and limit yourself to the Sony lenses. The AF of the A6400 has some new features (realtime eye-AF, also for pets, and easy object tracking by tapping the screen). But also the A6500 has very usable eye-AF, the advantages of the A6400 are not so big that it excuses the lack of IBIS (in my opinion). I also have the A6500 and I will definitely wait for the A6700/ A7000. Missing IBIS is a no-go.

    • @qtben17

      A6500 user here too and i think the specs of a6400 is 2017 behind. The apsc to beat for 2019 is xt3 with its 10bit, 4k/60 and that fuji colors. Sony borrowed the flip of a5100, autofocus of a9, removed ibis. Mashed up features of their existing tech. Id say just wait for the a7000

    • @ajproart2
      @ajproart2 5 лет назад +2

      There was this ad in Craigslist were they were asking at least a 16mm (35mm FE) so it should be at least 10mm (e-mount aps-c -crop sensor-) so this 9mm is a winner & a drone just look around or offer your services online, sometime they even train you.

    • @nosilverharbinger

      Your best bet is to become a realtor so that you better understand the business. Most realtors do their own photography work for the homes they sell, and dedicated real estate photography groups are used for extremely expensive homes. They don’t just take photos. They do makeovers on the properties to make them look as good as possible.
      Anyway, this is done by getting in touch with your area’s real estate board, who will often provide you with the classes you need to prepare for your state’s certification exam.
      In most states and localities the certification exam is not difficult, and the classes cost very little money.
