This was really wonderful on so many levels. I could listen to this lovely woman talk about her garden all day. I loved hearing about her childhood garden and sharing it's harvest with family and friends. And the story of the cast hosta leaf was just great. I'm going to have to Google that video, I've always wanted to cast a rhubarb leaf. Thanks for sharing this beautiful garden 😍
What a wonderful interview and beautiful garden! Donna is so knowledgeable, she kept my attention throughout the whole interview. Thanks for sharing it.
Donna, I so enjoyed listening to all of your wonderful stories of the gardens you enjoyed as a child and as an adult. The photos of your garden are just magical. You and your husband have done a fantastic job. Looking for things to do during the pandemic I pulled out my old Garden Gate. Magazines from 2004 to 2008. I believe I remember seeing the article with the how to make the leaf. Thank you for an enjoyable time listening to your stories!
You lovely ladies have made my day. In or turbulent world this gives us gardeners something to look forward to and put our hands into the earth. It's is a pleasure and an escape. Thank you.
I loved seeing the joy on Donna's face as she talked about her garden! Both of you were looking so happy. I feel the same way about my garden (we moved so I have a lot of empty space just waiting to be filled with God's glorious plants. I thank Him almost daily.
Great interview with Donna, and gosh what a lovely garden! I too am a huge fan of hostas and can only hope that one day I might have a garden like this! Thank you for sharing your garden Donna!
I just love this sweet lady!! I’ve also seen her garden on Volunteer Gardener. She’s a lovely lady with a beautiful garden and a gem of a husband!!! I would love for my husband to participate in my garden!!
Love this! I read about Donna and her husband’s garden in the Garden Gate magazine some time ago. What a beautiful garden! I loved hearing Donna’s stories of gardening with her dad growing up, so special. I wish I had more shade in our yard - we have a new home. Shade will take us some time to come by. Love love love the hostas! Thank you for sharing, Donna! -Madison Brewer in Holly Springs, NC
I have been subscribing to garden gate for many years. It's a great magazine! I just discovered the videos! Love them. Donna was a great story teller and enjoyed her stories and garden's very much. I also have Hosta 'Night before Christmas', but I call it 'Nightmare before Christmas' because that was my daughter's favorite (Disney) movie. Thanks for sharing Donna and Sherri!!! God bless you. PS I also remember the cement leaf and have done it with elephant ears!
... I enjoyed this tour/interview with Sherri and Donna immensely! Donna is absolutely dear, and her garden is a little piece of Heaven, right here on Earth! We are kindred spirits! Similar to my love of cats (and all of their colors of fur combinations), I could have hostas of every leaf combination! 🙃😺 I LOVE the Third Day emblem, referencing the third day of Creation in Genesis, where land and sea and plant life appears. "... and God saw that it was good." Amen, and amen! 🙏✝️ Cindy in Maryland Zone 6b =^..^=
Donna's garden's are beautiful. A lot of hard work, determination and care involved and it shows. So many people can apply this not only to gardens, but life.
What a beautiful, inspiring lady! Such a beautiful oasis that she and her husband have created. I have to admit I giggled a bit when she mentioned her husband retrieving those boulders from the creek! Sounds much like something I would do.
Now I know what I did wrong with my supposedly rock garden. I needed to put the dirt into the rock to build it up. What a great tip. Thanks for the visit to your gardens
True pleasure to see your garden and hear the stories. Thank you for sharing. It is a beautiful work of art! Would like to try leaf casting after seeing that, and I like the idea of variegated Ivy at base of Hosta. Loved the tall Hosta in pot also. Enjoyed seeing the engraved Third Day stone.
beautiful garden. immediately ordered four oclock flower....it looks pretty in the picture. hope it will grow in the pnw! Update: i grew them didnt like them. They did open later in the day but i felt it was way more green plant than flower😊 i pulled them all out.
Love your garden! Thank you for sharing. How does the garden fair in the winter? I am in zone 9b and have a huge oak that will be an awesome location for hosts and ferns.
Oh Donna, I so enjoyed watching this video of your garden. I had to laugh as I just planted two Hostas that I bought because I liked their names, which re Guardian angel and blue angel. What are the dimensions of your memorial Leaf? It looks huge. I bought my first Hosta last year. it was a stained glass Hosta and is so beautiful, I fell in love with it and now I have bought seven new Hosta friends. thanks again for sharing.
I loved the story about her garden in the magazine and really enjoyed the video. The pergola on her deck inspired me to see the potential for one on my deck, and my husband and son built it at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown last spring! I also love her Third Day stone and would love to have one for my garden. Was it custom-made?
I would so like to subscribe to Garden Gate mag. However, there is very little in any garden magazine that includes the upper midwest. As this video is focused on the south. I live in central WI.
We try to cover all regions of the country. We are based in Des Moines, IA so we have a lot of content from this region. We have shot in Madison several times. @@GardenGateMagazine I am thinking that anything without a flower would do good in filtered shade. Also, Oregon State University, is conducting tests in dry gardening I read. Maybe some of your readers would be interested since the West is already in drought.
I would love to spend days in Mrs. Priester’s garden talking to and learning from her. I’ve also watched the episode when Volunteer Gardener toured her garden. It’s also on RUclips. I’ve watched so many tours of shade gardens where they have a huge canopy of shade trees. When they have mulch paths and pebble paths how in the world do they keep the garden and paths clean from all the twigs and leaves that drop onto the beds and paths??? I have a huge canopy of oaks and it is a constant battle picking up twigs and sticks all year long and then the thousands of leaves that drop in the fall. I can’t imagine the intense labor involved in keeping paths clean if they can’t be swept or raked. If someone can advise or give me tips, please do!!🌼🌸🌺
I love watching Donna’s eyes light up when she talks about her childhood!
Yes, special memories>

Sounds great! Thanks for watching. If we remember correctly, the leaf is about 18" x 22". It is big!
Love this....but we have deer ...zone 7, California, and they eat hosts a as their salad
Yes, deer can be a constant battle!. So frustrating!

Hostas and many of the other plants/trees shown here will grow in your zone.
If I had a large shady yard, there would be Ramps. Anything else edible growing in shade?
It is hard in full shade. Some greens can tolerate a bit of shade
