Currently on my wrist right now, and I've got to say, your photography this episode was outstanding. Showed details and looks that even wowed me, and I've owned this for a year now. Great stuff and you're right, fantastic watch!
Peter, your watch reviews are among the very best, I do enjoy every single one of them. Thank you. The blue Baltic Aquascaphe Dual-Crown is on its way to my grubby hands...and then it goes straight to a black Eulit perlon.
Being french myself, I really like seeing foreign watch reviewers give their opinions on our industry. One that has substaintially grown up in the past 8 years with the arrival of many microbrands such as Baltic, Depancel, March Lab or the revival of Yema. This watch deserves a lot of credits, the finishing is superb (especially that radial brushing on the bezel, really cool detail), I really love the overall design and the case profile. Again, I really love your content Peter! Keep up the good work!!!
Handsome piece. Beautifully subtle color, and I don't think I've seen that torqued radial brushing on the bezel before. In a proverbial sea of retro-ish divers, these are the sorts of special touches that tend to win me over.
yeah i have the blue gilt aquascaphe on the beads of rice and its great. Im still considering getting this with the flat link then i can swap them around as all baltic bracelets are interchangeable.
These are really good looking watches. Baltic scores well in the style department with their vintage inspired collections. However some of models are on the diminutive side like the 36mm MR01s, faithful to the vintage thing I suppose. My fav is the blue aquascaphe on a beads of rice bracelet or the blue titanium aquascaphe. I also feel that the finishes and attractive designs warrant swiss movements. Great review as always, thanks Pete.
Like your videos Pete. Love this watch too. I can see myself buying a Baltic down the road. France has a rich history in watchmaking, Great to see microbrands reviving the industry in many countries.
Lovely video, and I really like your pick! I hope you'll reconsider your wish for having a screw down crown for internal bezels. First, because it would be a pain to unscrew and re screw the crown every time you want to use the bezel. Second, the crown tube threads can wear out, so that's another failure point, especially for someone who uses their bezel multiple times each day (much more than you would use a crown for time setting). Third, correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that screw down crowns should never be unscrewed underwater, so that would mean that if you got your wish then you couldn't adjust the bezel while having the watch in the water--not ideal for a diver! In all, it seems to me that a non screw down crown for an internal bezel is much more practical than a screw down one.
Outstanding review, HQ video - excellent production value ⭐ Glad you mentioned the handset - I really like the hands, too. Original, functional, very well executed. I just got my grail (Sinn 194 I St Sa A on H-link 😍) so I can't justify another purchase for awhile. That said, this Baltic was the first "nice" watch that I drooled over when I went down the rabbit hole and is next on my list as the collection, like Seiko's business model, gets more "up-market".
Baltic offers good stuff. Bought the sector dive with the 8315, very nice watch and superb dial. My only cons their cases are too light on the wrist. And the 8315 sounds cheap when spinning Th 9 series is much less louder but noisy. I think the case build plays a lot. I have a relio with a 9 serie, I can’t hear it spinning
Mate!!! I happen to own the exact same watch! And I completely agree with your conclusions! The rotating bezel indeed doesn't move unintentionally which was a concern of mine. I noticed the same about the rubber strap - it's not very malleable but comfortable nonetheless. However, I mostly wear it on the beads of rice bracelet, it has brushed outer links and the clasp has plenty of micro adjust holes. I was genuinely thrilled to see this on the channel!! 💙
I bought the new bronze Aquascaphe but sent it back. It had a very wobbly crown and dismal lume. At least they pay return shipping unlike Yema. I might give them another try because of this. They have a chronograph coming in September.
i'm torn between the Baltic Aquascaphe GMT and this dual crown. Leaning toward the dual crown. I will probably end up getting both. Baltic have some really nice pieces
Hard pill to swallow. I must say though, I have had many more expensive watches that don't wear as well or have the same feedback and emotive feel on the wrist as this does. Its certainly doing something right, albeit pretty expensive
Beautiful watch, I like the Baltic brand. I think I would probably justify buying the watch at that price point if it came with the bracelet instead? It definitely could use more micro adjustments on the clasp. I do like the look of the satin and shiny finish on the bracelet but agree that it should have a brushed finish instead. Another great video Pete, thanks mate!
I have that watch and the first thing I changed straight away was the cheap looking and feeling wrist strap. It's a nice watch but nowhere near as nice as my 'Marlowe Sceptre' for about the same price. Have a look at that one just for comparison.
For me there a few micro brands out there charging similar or more for Miyota movements, but they might come on bracelets, with micro adjustments. Baltic make some really good looking watches though. 👍
You should check out the traska seafarer, similar Vibes, better finishing, and a hardness coating on the case and bracelet. Only downside is they do limited runs....
Very nice looking watch love it 🤩, have Baltic my self, BUT Iam a bit disappointed that they don’t have an option with datewindow at 6, too many brands are making dials without datewindow.. that’s bugging me..
Peter I bought the Aquascaphe Classic with stainless steel bezel some 2 years ago. I’ve just ordered as of yesterday the Aquascaphe bronze, blue gilt! Yeah I like em.😍🤤🤭
Beautiful watch. I have an eye on it for some time and for Aquascaphe in Bronze, but still prices (even on a second hand market) holds me from buying it, because of Miyota movement, not swiss. At this price range I would like to see a swiss movement inside. But if I find a good opportunity to buy it, I definitely will.
Hey Pete. Cheers from Nova Scotia Canada. Have you ever done a review on a Tissot Seastar 1000 Powermatic 80? Great watch. Great quality. Great movement and great price. Cheers man.
I cannot believe this is the first Baltic for you, Peter. It's been a microbrand darling for some years now. But I'm especially glad that it holds up. This model, more so than most of their catalogue, doesn't trade so heavily on retro-credentials. This looks quite modern and with that comes more character. I'm not entirely surprised at the price, but probably a Sellita would have been possible. I have noticed a few brands, especially once preorder pricing is over, are paying what one might expect for a Miyota 9 series. Isn't Beaubleu similarly ambitious for the movement? So yes, these French brands trade on their style and execution. For me it feels like it will have to happen one of these days, that I cannot resist a new piece from one of the 'nouvelle vague'. This isn't quite my genre, but I could wear this, and I love the dressy touch of the bracelet. A pity they haven't given it a hardened coating, then that would take away a major concern. On rubber it stays probably too sporty for me.
Here watching again... The Baltic totally own the Dan Henry DH1970 (sapphire *coated* mineral crystal) and the Spinnaker (with it's weird bulbous, distorting sapphire crystal and unrefined, disappointing hands). The Baltic really is a cut above. I, however, couldn't resist taking the AliX route and getting 3 colorways of the same watch (WTF?🤦🏼) The Rdunae R3, a cheap clomage of all of the above mentioned nice watches. At the sale price, they can be worn hard and carefree. However, this blue Aquascaphe dual crown will be mine... 💸 It oozes quality.
You would be trading a high quality bracelet then, I think the 9039 is a good rival to entry level swiss movements while being cheaper, so its a good trade off for a well designed bracelet.
@memelogy737 Sorry but I wouldn't have a Miyota over a Selita movement. Not saying it's not a good movement but it can found in watches a lot cheaper than this. The bracelet doesn't suit the watch for me, and with those high polished out links would be a scratch magnet. Each to their own .
@@chi1057 fair enough, Miyota at this price is still acceptable as compared to some German fliegers that use the same but cost upwards of $1000 lol, not to mention Miyota released a Gmt movement that is also found in some micros for around $500 and offers far better specs compared to the Seiko SSK GMT
@memelogy737 like I say that's my opinion, Selita would be expected in a micro brand without the brand cache of some of the German brands you're referring to.
I bought the black PVD version of this watch - fantastic finish, but there are a few gripes with mine - the strap hardware on the black watch is polished stainless steel. Very disappointing. They also don't make a black bracelet. My inner bezel does move during the day. Real shame they didn't go the extra mile
Im a professional photographer I have quite a bit of gear and lighting setups in the studio. It all depends on what video or watch I am shooting to what lights I want to use cheers
I had to send my watch back to France three times over 2 years. This was an engagement present from my fiancé and it just never worked. They look classy, no doubt, but a watch it supposed to keep time. You wouldn’t keep a beautiful fridge that didn’t cool. I’m not sure why they couldn’t fix it or why they sent it back if it wasn’t working.
Hi Peter I've been considering the Aquascaphe for years but haven't bought it yet, it's a good looking watch & the movement is fine i have a few watches with it & they keep good time.for some reason i just can't pull the trigger .
I only got this on the channel because of viewers recomendations. To be honest I would not have considered it because on paper it looks a little pricey considering the Miyota and no bracelet. But, I am glad I listened to you guys, its a little beauty. Well made, good feel in the hand and on the wrist, but as we said, it is still on the higher side money wise
I like the watch itself but they need better bracelet choices & better clasps. I doubt I would pay a grand for it though. I’m waiting to see what the next Monta diver looks like.
Nice review Pete, it’s a beautiful looking watch, but I do think it’s a tad expensive for what you’re getting under the bonnet, the Miyota is a reliable movement but it’s not in Swiss price territory, and considering the price it would’ve been nice if Baltic included a screw down crown for the inner bezel. You reviewed a similar compressor watch not long ago ‘the Beaufort Seatrekker’ …compared to the Aquascaphe and putting aesthetics aside, I think you’re getting better value for money with the Seatrekker. Thanks for the review👍
Looks beautiful, but I think most of these watch manufacturers should drop the idea that anyone is ever going to dive with their watch. I have a dive computer. It's not polished and I won't be wearing it to dinner 😂

For budget Swiss-made divers but are homage watches, then Steinhart 39mm divers are only at €490 with an SW-200 Swiss movement. You can get a Steinhart GMT diver with SW-330 movement starting at €550 with an aluminium bezel and ceramic bezel for €650. Not divers but you can even get a Tissot PRX Automatic or Tissot Gentleman for the sort of price they are asking for.
@@PeterKotsa Had it come with a bracelet out of the box, then €650 was just agreeable but needing to pay for a bracelet separately is overpriced. You could even get a Seiko Alpinist or Tissot PRX Automatic or Tissot Gentleman for the price they are asking.
@@IDKline nothing is the same that exactly what I said about the first orient king diver gen. Nevertheless Orient and citizen are best bang for the buck and few qc issues with their nice spec entry level divers 👍and I add the watch industry is a copy design industry from the last 60 years at 98%…..and Swiss brads the first. Even seiko is sleeping from 20 years now with rééditions and re-edit…..
Me no like
That watch is whack at that price. The bracelet clasp is a complete joke. Traska runs circles around this shit all day
