“Just Between You and Me” is that song that always brings out the best memories I had as a kid in the summer of 1981. To this day, whenever I hear it, I am instantly transported back in time where I can see my 9 year old self sitting on my BMX bike, listening to The Nature of the Beast on my portable cassette player that I bungee corded to my handlebar and watching the sunset on a warm July night. God Bless you Myles and God Speed.

From small town fall fairs to hockey area shows ( opening for Deep Purple was a particular favorite ) This was a quality band. All the members are great players . One thing you should know is , I`ve never seen an April Wine concert where they didn`t play 20th Century Schizoid Man. Amazing killer version. Myles will be missed here in Canada and I hope abroad as well. RIP Myles. We love you

For many years April Wine was a national treasure here in Canada. A gifted songwriter, guitar player, singer who still sounded great well into his sixties. April Wine had great rockers, power pop and terrific ballads, he will be missed. Fans of Myles Goodwin should check out his bio "Just Between You And Me", a very plain spoken yet honest and real book. Thanks for this Pete and Miles thanks for the great music, Rest In Peace.

I was fortunate enough to catch April Wine in concert 4 times between the years of 1977-1991. They always put on a great show and like many Canadians in my age bracket, I looked forward to them making their once( sometimes twice) a year appearance in my town. You must be a pretty good band when the Rolling Stones ask you to open for them. Those shows at the El Mocombo were captured on tape for the live album they released in 1978 or so. Goodbye Miles and thanks for being a part of the soundtrack to my life.

  • @MrMichaelbsmith6420

This was one of the first bands to utilize a triple guitar threat as Myles called it and practice and became so good that when you listen to the albums from 1978 to 1984 then from 1992 until 1996 it just memorized me every time I saw them live, If you never did see them live just look up their performances at hammersmith 1981 or there is a show they did in Kansas during 1982 Power Play Tour that show is better visually even though Nature Of The Beast came out in 1981 was the pinacol of their success. Still hard to take in that he's no longer here, I met him many times since a friend of my mother's at the time knew a relative of his so it wasn't difficult to get tickets when they came to Calgary. RIP Myles, I remember you saying you wanted to leave your mark on the music industry......I believe without question you have and I'm sure other fans will follow suit.

It was shocking to hear of Myles Goodwin's passing yesterday , as I saw April Wine play just a year ago in November 2022 , at a concert hall just north of Toronto .
It was a great show , and Mr. Goodwin and the band were in excellent form .
I remember being surprised at how great his voice still sounded after all of these years .
Like you , I am less familiar with Chad Allen's time in the Guess Who , but I still remember hearing some of those early songs on the radio .
RIP to the both of them .

thanks, Pete, for the respect you always show when we lose a musician. I don't post comments very often, but I'm always tuned into your discussions because you guys mimic my emotions regularly. Thats a great thing man. But all i know at the moment is i am terribly saddened. again. I am actually shocked at how upset i really feel. I don't know why exactly. I wanted to pinpoint it so i called my Dr. earlier and we made an appointment with a psychologist. Something about leading to a therapist. I dont think we have enough discussions about how to handle this stuff. I mean i can vision a wave falling upon us. I/we need to figure out better ways to keep this from becoming depression. Fuck that. Too old for that man. Shit back in the day my first real thought was to RUN. So I think its just gonna boil down to....age. I just turned 60 and of course this was never suppose to happen. You know. No way where we gonna reach 40 much less 60. wtf. But in reality our heroes are going quickly and so are alot of my close friends. Probably your friends too.
I was wondering this morning how long till im completely alone because everyone i knew or loved has either died or dissapeared. I think that may happen to more people then I even realize. Jeez. Thinking about going out right now and hugging everyone i know.
My wife just looked around the door and said, "you,re such a fukin pussy." lol Wow man. I aint fukin her for a least a week. Anyway thanks again Pete. Have a good night.

April Wine moved to Montréal in 1969, where they would be based for much of their career. They were a big deal.
I grew up in the Montréal bar scene as a young musician in the late 70s and 80s. we would always run into someone who knew Myles or the other band members, April Wine recorded Harder Faster, Nature of the Beast & Power Play at Le Sudio Morin Heights just north of Montréal around the same time Rush recorded Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures & Signals, so much Canadain music history,
Myles was a great Canadain songwriter, I urge you all to give a listen to the April Wine catalog from the early /mid 70s. released prior to Harder Faster they had a lot of gems
that received regular air play on Canada top 40 radio.

Played the hell out of First Glance, Harder....Faster and Nature Of The Beast. Thanks Pete, well done.

Canadians of a certain age--i.e. my age--will know Chad Allen mostly for his time with Brave Belt. Randy Bachman thought enough of Allen's talents to form Brave Belt with him after quitting the Guess Who in 1970. (The two had been together in the orignal pre-Burton Cummings Guess Who.) . BB was largely derided in the wake of BTO's huge success, but two of their songs--Another Way Out and Dunrobin's Gone--were airplay staples in 1972, and they hold up very well today. Allen's importance to the formative years of Canadian rock can't be overstated. RIP.

Stand Back was a really good album. Limited funds, I never bought an April wine album (too busy with Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Neil Young and Gordon Lightfoot) but I knew they had some great songs

I got on the April Wine train at 'Stand Back' during my teen years in Canada. The whole band was so talented, but I always thought Myles had one of the best voices in rock. I like the heavier songs best but Myles was second to none on those power ballads he wrote.

Sad news of the passing of both musicians but for me Myles Goodwin has specific memories because April Wine played at the amazing 1980 Reading Festival in my home town here in the UK, and I was also at the Reading University gig that same year that was finally put onto CD (officially) in the most recent April Wine box set. A great band.

Apologies for my slight error above and I stand corrected. April Wine did not play Reading Festival in 1980, they played Monsters of Rock in Donington that year - with Rainbow, Scorpions, Saxon, Riot and Touch. An absolutely stonking line-up with 6 great bands!

@@aldebaran4154 I meet old friends for a beer a few times a year and we always end up talking about music and a few gigs always come up, including the April Wine one at Reading University. I can't remember personally but I am actually wondering if it was a free concert because it was being recorded for the BBC "Rock Goes To College" series that was on at the time.

Hey Pete, I gotta say, I love your channel, and have for years, I don't always agree with you, but I respect your opinion so much, because I know you know your shit.. I know this is a little off-topic but I just finished watching your full review on all the Monster Magnet albums, and Man.. I gotta say... The one thing that stuck out the most from that for me was how low you placed "Last Patrol" on the list.. I know it's all subjective anyway, and that's the beauty of this, but if I could I would love to challenge you to sit back, relax and just listen to that album again.. I truly believe it's Wyndorf's best work.. And the "Re-Imagined" version goes right with it like a cherry on top...
Dude, thanks for your work. And RIP to Myles.. April Wine's music will live to the ends of the earth, I'm slightly younger, so they're slightly before my time, but I grew up as a kid hearin their music all the time thanks to my father.. And them along with Nazareth technically became/are the two first bands that made me identify music and what I liked. . they were the first two bands where I (as a kid) though.. What is that music ? Who is that band ? And went digging for more.. So rest in peace Mr Goodwin.. You indeed did good!
