Nothing great here. Might put Genesis , Whitesnake, The Cult, Hall of the mt .. in my top 800 albums of all time. But the rest I dislike, surprised not to see Pink FLoyd or a Queen - not that Pete loves them just that everyone overrated them. I mean i know it's all opinion, I am just glad i don't have to listen.
The best bands are Neil Young, Buffalo Springfield, very early Elvis Costello , Graham Parker and the Rumor, The Smith, The Replacements, the Kinks, The Beatles but not their last two bloated records that everyone loves, Hendrix, The Yardbirds, Love with Arthur Lee, The Move (became ELO but harder rockin). Rush is maybe the worst of the bands.I know they have talent, just annoying.
No offense but his list does not cover a lot of ground in terms of different genre's and a very small window in terms of the years the records were made. Very far from obscure as well. IMHO of course. In all fairness for me it would be impossible to name 20 favorite albums because most of us go through phases and what might be a favorite today may not be tomorrow. Don't limit yourself to a couple styles of music! Lots of great music out there and most of it was never got the radio airplay it deserved!
1- Abbey Road - Beatles 2- Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones 3- Foxtrot- Genesis 4- The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie 5- Who's Next - The Who 6- Stormbringer - Deep Purple 7- Deja Vu - Crosby, Stills, Nash, Young 8- Close to the Edge - Yes 9- After the Gold Rush - Neil Young 10- Moving Pictures - Rush 11- Godbluff - Van Der Graaf Generator 12- One Size Fits All - Frank Zappa 13- Benefit - Jethro Tull 14- Blow by Blow - Jeff Beck 15- The Allman Brothers Band - Allman Brothers 16- Innervisions - Stevie Wonder 17- Light as a Feather - Return to Forever 18- Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs - Derek and The Dominos 19- The Power and The Glory - Gentle Giant 20- You are the Music - Trapeze

I so appreciate how you seem to go genuinely emotional over certain bands, certain albums, certain artists. That's ME holding up my vinyl copy of the double-sided Quadrophenia by The Who. Felt a little less 'alone' whenever I spun those two discs. Thank you for such a great channel. Where even disagreements just bring up more and more classic rock. Cheers!
I don't think I could do a definitive top 10, but 10 albums I absolutely love and never get tired of, not ranked, would be: 1. Iron Maiden--Powerslave 2. Rainbow---Straight Between the Eyes 3. Genesis---Abacab 4. Rush---Grace Under Pressure 5. Stevie Ray Vaughan---Couldn't Stand the Weather 6. Boston---Don't Look Back 7. Doobie Brothers---The Captain and Me 8. Black Sabbath---Heaven and Hell 9. Whitesnake---Slide It In 10. Van Halen---Van Halen II That's 10 out of a gazillion or so.
We have at least one LP in common!! But it’s hard as you say to list a top 20, my list is more based on maybe having just one or two classic songs on an album, if we’re honest there aren’t many albums where we like all the tracks! That’s why I always prefer live albums, where most of the time the artist picks the best of their catalogue... In no particular order... Scorpions - Love ar First Sting Yes - The Yes Album Black Sabbath - Heaven and Hell Rainbow - Rising Alice Cooper - Billion Dollar Babies Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II Foreigner - 4 Deep Purple - Burn The Who - Who’s Next Motörhead - Overkill Lynyrd Skynyrd - Pronounced Len-nerd Skin-nerd UFO - Phenomemon Journey - Escape Blackfoot - Strikes Rush - 2112 Van Halen - Van Halen Frank Zappa - Sheikh Yerbouti Ted Nugent - Ted Nugent Rory Gallagher - Photo-Finish Rolling Stones - Beggar’s Banquet
not in order: 1- Rust in piece - Megadeth 2- Thick as a brick - Jethro Tull 3- White Album - Beatles 4- Led Zeppelin 3 - Led Zeppelin 5- VS. - Pearl Jam 6- Moving Pictures - Rush 7- Calvalcade - Flatliners 8- Masters of Reality - Black Sabbath 9- London Calling - The Clash 10- Band Of Gypsies - Jimi Hendrix 11- After the gold rush - Neil Young 12- Among the Living - Anthrax 13- In Rock -Deep purple 14- Exile on Main Street - Rolling Stones 15- Siamese Dream - Smashing Pumpkins 16- Hot Rats - Frank Zappa 17- American Beauty - Greatful Dead 18- Unforgettable Fire - U2 19- Animals - Pink Floyd 20- Superunknown - Soundgarden
Rainbow Rising is one of the greatest albums of all time. The line up of Blackmore, Dio, Bain, Carey and Powell was never bettered. Dio's vocals soared !
NPO 1 - Somewhere in Time (big Maiden fan since 14 years old -I'm 43 now. This one was a grower) 2 - Master of Puppets (love the sound and the mix) 3 - Moving Pictures 4 - London Calling 5 - Boston 6 - 90125 7 - Led Zepp III 8 - Machine Head 9 - Layla and another assorted love songs 10 - All Things must pass 11 - Blind (Corrosion of Conformity) 12 - Fear Inoculum (it's THAT GOOD) 13 - War Paint (Black Crowes) 14 - A Live One (Phish) 15 - One Size Fits All 16 - Sabotage (The Writ and Megalomania are AMAZING) 17 - Burn 18 - Tyranny of Souls 19 - From Elvis in Memphis 20 - Apetite for destruction
In Rock is even better than Machine Head imo, so there ! Off topic, everyone's favorite Sabbath album is either Paranoid or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath...... For me, it's gotta be Master Of Reality. Damn, the 70's was the best rock era ever
@Alibobs Marland BURN is an underrated masterpiece. It was interesting hearing from people after the Iron Curtain came down in 1991. There are strange and funny stories from then, students, from all over the Soviet Union. EXAMPLE One guy said they had to play Sail Away off Burn for their music exam ! He didn't elaborate enough to say what he actually played.
I only own three albums on this list which means I have 17 albums to listen to and buy. This channel has opened my eyes to world of 70's and early 80's hard rock that I totally missed. Thanks to this channel my playlist has expanded more in the last month than in the last ten years.
As a huge ACDC fan, Powerage is my favorite Bon Scott ACDC album, and Back in Black is my favorite Brian Johnson ACDC album!! But, I really like all their albums, as ACDC is my favorite band of all time! RIP Mal!
You’re not alone my friend. Powerage is easily the strongest ACDC album from start to finish. No filler all killer. I blast that album still to this day. Now my favorite Brian album is between BiB and FTATR
All Fantastic Music!! There is no way to pick an absolutely favorite album, but 20 can make it easier. So here I go... Scorpions - Lovedrive Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith Styx - Pieces Of Eight Whitesnake - Slide It In Saga - Silent Knight Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon Van Halen - Van Halen Pat Travers - Black Pearl Iron Maiden - Killers Metallica - Ride The Lightning AC/DC - Let There Be Rock UFO - Mechanix Foreigner - 4 The Police - Zenyatta Mondatta David Bowie - Blackstar Cheap Trick - All Shook Up Ozzy Osbourne - Diary Of A Madman Rush - Permanent Waves Arcade Fire - Funeral Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin …there are many more, but these ones for sure take me to another timewhen I listen to them
@@davidwesley5159 Rainbow's first album is very good - better than "Long Live Rock N Roll" but because of "If You Don't Like Rock N Roll" and "Snake Charmer" it is never gonna be better than "Rising".
@@Rekko82 I don't mind "if you dont like rock and roll", snake charmer is a dud tho. Im just concurring w/ Ronnie, plus it has sentimental value to me.
@@davidwesley5159 Well, Dio had his own opinions. He didn't like "Rainbow in the Dark" and was about to destroy the song while making the first Dio album. He thought it was too poppy. Probably "Shoot Shoot" and "Mystery" is metal then. He was an excellent musician but when it comes to opinions, he is one of us. It is an interesting view though. It was Dio's first album with a proper band, so it meant a lot to him.
Wow, not many people I've ever met share my same enthusiasm for Secret Treaties, yes! Such a great, weird, original, offbeat classic rock album that delivers on so many levels. Definitely my favorite album of theirs, and On Your Feet... is one of my favorite live albums as well.
Hi Pete, great show as always though only one of your favorites are on my list: Wishbone Ash - Argus The Clash - London calling Led Zeppelin - Houses of the Holy Van Morrison - Moondance King Crimson - Red Thin Lizzy - Bad Reputation T.Rex - Electric Warrior The Rolling Stones - Exile on Mainstreet Genesis - Selling England by the Pound The Beatles - Revolver Talking Heads - Remain in Light Marillion - Misplaced Childhood Mountain - Nantucket Sleighride Mahavishnu Orchestra - Visons of the Emerald Beyond Lou Reed - New York Archie Shepp & Jasper van`t Hof - Mama Rose Black Sabbath - Master of Reality Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers Little Feat - Sailin´shoes Bob Seeger - Night moves Look forward to your next video. Glad you mentioned Chicago Transit authority. I was made fun of for listening to them as a kid, all my so called friends were listening to Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc. Thank you, after 50 years I feel vindicated, lol. Terry Kath forever!!!!
Dennis John Dreher , you my friend had open mind when you were young allowing you to experience a wider variety of music throughout your life. I doubt if your friends did.
All the other stuff is great but your friends were jealous not angry because you developed good taste and they didn't understand it yet. Music is meant to take you wherever you want it to take you and I was glad I kept an open mind or I would have never experienced all the different flavors of rock, metal, blues, jazz, classical and everything in between the cracks that could be hard to find but when you open your mind and Branch out you will find everything you have been looking for and sometimes a little extra. I love rock music but I like Chicago, Traffic, Steely Dan, C.S.N.& Y. , Allman Brothers, Skynyrd, Eagles, etc. There's so much good stuff that people will question if you forgot where you came from, all you forgot to do was open the window a little wider and let everything in. I used to listen to just what everyone else did until my older brother showed me that good music is endless and it just keeps getting better all the time. Keep on searching and you will like what you find, peace ! 🎸
Forget about their 70's excursion into AM radio-type pop, somebody just wanted to cash in for a big payday; but the first album and bits of the second showed they had what it took to be a respectable rock band.
Great top 20.. So hard to choose.. It would be so easy to put together a top 20 with just Zeppelin, Sabbath and Purple albums.. Those bands pretty much set the course for what was to come. Pleased to see UFO in there. Great band. And Rising. When Dio sings "there's a Rainbow Rising" during Stargazer, it brings tears to my eyes because of it beauty, power and sheer epic-ness. .
1. Aerosmith - Rocks 2. Cream - Fresh Cream 3. Rainbow - Rising 4. Starz - Starz 5. Rush - Hemispheres 6. Black Sabbath - Paranoid 7. Blue Oyster Cult - Secret Treaties 8. Priest stained class was.a nice trandition between their blusier days and their coming metal albums. Not sure if Beforr the Dawn was.on this album but the solo onthis track is grossly over rated. Lots of fine vibrato there. Extremely lyrical.
🤘🏼🤘🏼 *SO glad to hear you recommend Return To Forever! The albums from 1973-1976 have some of the greatest music ever composed on them. Just AMAZING!* 🤘🏼🤘🏼

What an amazing and eclectic list! You have a hugely wide range of taste! One Correction: 15)Pink Floyd-Shine On You Crazy Diamond - the name of the album is actually "Wish You Were Here".
Great list Pete. I'll give it a whack. I could do a top 20 of all time just using Yes, Beatles and Crimson, but I'm going to use the no more than one by each band. So that way 20 artists will be represented. Not in order really, but I'll begin with my favorite album of all time by anyone. Relayer - Yes The Beatles- The Beatles Queen II - Queen Permanent Waves - Rush Turn of The Cards - Renaissance Venus and Mars - Wings Somewhere I've Never Travelled - Ambrosia Dog and Butterfly- Heart Love It To Death- Alice Cooper Larks Tongues In Aspic - King Crimson Axis Bold As Love - Jimi Hendrix Experience A Trick of the Tail - Genesis Birds Bees Monkees - The Monkees Every Good Boy Deserves Favour- Moody Blues Leftoverature - Kansas Pieces of Eight - Styx The Division Bell - Pink Floyd Aqualung - Jethro Tull Who's Next - Who Demons And Wizards - Uriah Heep
Rush: All The World's A Stage Motorhead: Rock'n Roll Scorpions: Animal Magnetism Black Sabbath: Master of Reality Deep Purple: Perfect Strangers James Gang: Rides Again Kiss: Destroyer.........
So glad you include my top 5 bands and my fave album of each! BOC, Sabbath, Priest, Rush and Deep Purple. You Rock! However I probably would have Zappa Album, one size fits all or overnight sensation.
Good taste Sir! A great mix of prog and metal. The Chicago, Genesis and Led Zeppelin choices are A1. Volume 4 is undoubtedly the best Sabbath. And the Purple get their well deserved due. You know quality when you hear it.
great list...love all your picks...so nice to see uriah heep and gentle giant so appreciated...by the way...as far as favorite live album goes...rush 'all the world's a stage'....
I have 9 albums out of the 20 that you named. And I also love those 9 albums. But there's so many more I could add. It would probably go up to a 100. But I believe 3 of the Greatest Metal albums of all times are the first 3 albums from RAINBOW with DIO on vocals. Those three are so incredibly. They still blow me away to this day. They have a very special place in my heart. Amazing albums. R.I.P. RJD 🙂\m/
Listen to early DP and Blackmore was defining his style…but the magic happened with Rising. Agree first three Rainbow are unbelievably good, but I have played Rising to death and it is still perfect!
Here we go.... in no particular order... Led Zeppelin II Boston (First Album) Dire Straits Making Movies Electric Light Orchestra Face the Music Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Squeeze Argybargy Elvis Costello Imperial Bedroom Frankie Goes to Hollywood Welcome to the Pleasuredome U 2 Joshua Tree Duran Duran Rio

I love this Pete so much! I love your channel!😃😁 I love how you rank your studio albums from different bands it your influence makes me want to start my own channel! Thank you for what you do Pete keep going! You totally influenced me!😃
Some excellent choices Pete!! And I really like how you saved Rainbow Rising and In Rock as your best of the best!! They are my favorites as well. Nice job!!
When you mentioned Sabbath I chuckled to myself and said “Vol. 4” because it’s one of my favourites but I didn’t think anyone else liked it that much. And then you whip out Vol. 4!
@@ACoincidentalLife I actually only finally got Sabotage a few weeks ago. I had everything by Sabbath from the debut to Eternal Idol except for Technical Ecstasy and Sabotage back in the 80s. Now at last I have it!
Picking an album each from personal favourite bands ; BOC - Spectres (over FOUO & Secret Treaties ... just) Wishbone Ash - Argus Yes - Close To the Edge Rush - A Farewell to Kings The Doors - LA Woman King Crimson - Court of the Crimson King Hawkwind - Warrior on the Edge of Time Rainbow - Rising Magnum - Chase the Dragon The Tubes - Completion Backwards Principle
Knowledge is paramount and from Pete the description is so in-depth, this is wonderful to see. Mostly I agree and the rest I have yet to listen to. I was born in 1966

Equinox is Styx's best album. Can't beat *Prelude 12* going into *Suite Madame Blue.* Plus *it was cool* finding the band's faces *within the flaming ice* on the cover. Your top 10 was good. Saw Mike Oldfield in concert in Germany. Yep. He did a 20 minute Tubular Bells.
Terry Kath is not underrated. For over 50 years I have been hearing how great Terry Kath is. He is a fine player but not underrated. Ollie Halsall and April Lawton both underrated! Don't recognize their names do you?
@@cpu554 Hendrix was being nice or perhaps he never said it. No offense! Back then you had a young George Benson, Wes Montgomery,Pat Martino.......All legends! I am sure Jimi heard them all! I think Jimi knew there is no best anything.......
April Lawton was in that band Ramatam and yes she is sadly underrated and unknown by the general public. Halsall sounds familiar but I cannot remember who he was with or how I heard about him.
My Top 10- 1. Back In Black 2. Boston 3. Appetite For Destruction 4. Hysteria 5. Led Zeppelin 4 6. Ride The Lightning 7. Sticky Fingers 8. Who's Next 9. Pyromania 10. Bat Out Of Hell
My late uncle was a jazz drummer and he introduced me to Gentle Giant when I was 13 years old (45 years ago) and they have been one of my absolute favorite bands of all-time. I was so lucky to see them live in Montreal (5th row from the front) and it's a show I'll never forget.
The late 70's and early 80's was such a great time for rock music. You have several from those years that I really like: Rush / Moving Pictures, Kansas / Leftoverture, and Styx / Grand Illusion. The other albums mentioned are great, too!
My favourites in random order: 1. Uriah Heep - Demons & Wizards 2. Iron Maiden - Somewhere in Time 3. Accept - Balls to the Wall 4. Blackmore's Night - Ghost of a Rose 5. Queen - A Day at the Races 6. Iced Earth - Dystopia 7. Bruce Dickinson - Accident of Birth 8. Nightwish - Once 9. Uriah Heep - the Magician's Birthday 10. Lindemann - Skills for Pills (a solo album by Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann that is a guilty pleasure album for me) 11. Evanescence - Fallen 12. Queen - A Night at the Opera 13. Sabaton - the Art of War 14. Demons & Wizards - III 15. Nightwish - Imaginaerum 16. Rammstein - Herzeleid 17. Rainbow - Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow 18. Metallica - Ride the Lightning And the last, but not least... 19. ANYTHING by Blind Guardian.
You have made my day. My mate Steve and I have an ongoing debate over "lights out" and "obsession" great to have you in my corner on this one. What a superb album.
We grew up in two very different worlds of musical experience and influence (with some expected '70s intersections), which is why I always appreciate your various tastes. I've tried a lot of new tunes based on your overviews and rankings. Thanks for putting rock out there.
Well I was going to comment my top 20 studio albums of all time, but I can’t leave out the rest of my top 50. There’s a lot of Rush in there. A lot of Yes, Black Sabbath, Mark Knopfler. A few David Bowie albums, a few Aerosmith... A couple Blue Öyster Cult albums as well as quite a few Judas Priest albums. I just can’t make a list that excludes anything from my top 50.
Good stuff! I'll have to marinate on this for a while with regard to my top 20. I'm sure you don't care, however, I will provide a list of my 20 favorite albums

I appreciate your list, Pete! My personal favourite is Aja by Steely Dan. The production standard is unmatched for any album out there, not to mention the songwriting/musicianship is top notch, especially for a pop album that totally broke new barriers at the time.

I got to check out Wishbone Ash....it keeps appearing on lists all over the internet! This list is LOUD! I believe I can actually hear it! NICE ONE, Campbell!
@Crazy Cooter I totally agree with you about Ted Nugent. I could of added him as well because he has made some brilliant albums like Cat Scratch Fever, Weekend Warriors, Double Live Gonzo, etc. If I made up a top 30 albums Ted would surely be there. 🙂
Thankyou Pete, some very good choices in this top 20 I wasn't sure if I could narrow it down to 20 choices but decided to anyway, so in no particular order 1 Styx - Pieces Of Eight 2 Bad Company - Straight Shooter 3 Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime 4 Boston s/t 5 F.M. - Metropolis 6 Triumph - Allied Forces 7 Y&T - Earthshaker 8 Billy Squier - Enough Is Enough 9 U.F.O. - The Wild The Willing And The Innocent 10 38 Special - Tour De Force 11 The Babys - Head First 12 Strangeways - Walk In The Fire 13 H.E.A.T. - Address The Nation 14 Foghat - Night Shift 15 Honeymoon Suite - The Big Prize 16 Starz - Violation 17 Treat - Coup De Grace 18 Tattoo Rodeo - Rode Hard Put Away Wet 19 Kansas - Masque 20 Gamma 2 .

Lodestone3: The Smoker You Drink, The Player You Get was the first album I ever bought way back in 1977. Got it from a second hand record shop for £1, still have it to this day. And Harvest and In the court of the Crimson King, great sounds.
Wow. Thanks to this video I got to know about 'Castle Walls' by Styx, 'Nothing to Say' by Jethro Tull, 'Red' by King Crimson & 'Peel the paint' by Gentle Giant. Thanks Pete! Do you have a spotify account I can follow?

O'Neill himself had produced albums for Savatage from "In the Hall of the Mountain King" onwards. So yeah, TSO were kind of birthed out of Savatage.
I'm a little older than you are, and my choices are definitely more 60's. 1. Dan Fogelberg - Phoenix 2. Jethro Tull - Benefit 3. Led Zeppelin II 4. Santana- Abraxis 5. Blind Faith 6. Beatles - Abbey Road 7. Pink Floyd - Wish you were here 8. The Who - Who's Next 9. Allan Brothers - Greatest Hits (I know, but it IS a great album 10. Peter Frampton - Frampton Comes Alive These are the albums I listen to the most. But I can't forget Aqualung!!!
Love all your picks. Saw Tommy Shaw last year with Styx. That dude is a freakin' rockstar. Very impressive musician and showman and looked like he was having the time of his life!
Tommy is a freak of nature! Sixty-six years old and still sings everything in the original key and never wusses out on a high note. Still runs around like a kid, as he plays some of the most lyrical lead guitar in rock. He’s a musician’s musician!
Your enthusiasm is contagious! The benefit here is our tastes are just similar enough that I give credence to all of your suggestions of stuff I haven't heard or haven't heard in a long time... and then I go chase it down! Thanks Pete!
Interesting Pete. I've watched a lot of your videos but there were a few surprises. I hadn't appreciated how much you like Styx, Kansas and Chicago. Perhaps because I haven't watched your videos on these American bands that didn't really crossover to the UK. Linking back to your series on live albums, I've always been sad that In Rock and Rainbow Rising don't feature heavily on live albums. I don't think Blackmore appreciated just how good they were and how they could and should have been the core of the live set lists.
pete, jus started watching yer channel, im class of 75, s0 we have much in common musically, BUT BELIEVE IT OR NOT ,i had never heard the song "STARLESS", altho i knew some King Crimson, i never heard that one, thanx. NOW I HAVE AND IT WAS GREAT, GREAT SONG, REALLY LIKED IT.
@@ledzeplover58 Tyranny And Mutation was my first BOC album, which I owned on 8-track at the time. I think I only owned 3 tapes back then (I was 16). I installed an 8-track player into my first car and proceeded to wear those tapes out. Thus I have every song on Tyranny And Mutation forever burned into my skull. Have owned it on multiple media, listened to it countless times, and I never get tired of it. My gf likes it too, but she thinks I play it too much. :)
greg davidson for mine it’s just pipped by killing machine. Still, it’s a killer album. Beats the crap out of British steel which seems to get all the accolades.
Teddy Malfoy for son reason I stopped listening after defenders of the faith. I was a fanatical jp fan, but after I saw the turbo lover vid I stopped. Not that I didn’t like the song... I just stopped. I even liked point of entry.
Agree with Pete's list too, even thought I don't know so well all those bands but I really want to dig it. I discover these spontaneous initiatives from Pete Pardo that I didn't now two weeks ago and I'd like to congratulate him for his videos. I'm very glad too to know, because I'm french, that there are some people around the world who speak about superb groups very unknown in my country. Here is my list (I prefer to mention twice the same band if they occasionaly did two or three masterpieces despite I ignore some other bands that I trully love, that's just the way it is): 1 the Beatles: revolver 2 Queen: A night at the opera 3 Weather report: heavy weather 4 The Beatles: Rubber soul 5 John Coltrane: Giant steps 6 Nada Surf: the proximity effect 7 George Harrison: All thing must pass 8 The Clash: london calling 9 The Beatles: sgt Pepper's lonely hearts club band 10 Oscar Peterson: we get request 11 Santana: abraxas 12 Pulp: this is hardcore 13 Red Hot Chili Peppers: bloodsugarsexmagik 14 Cheap Trick: dream police 15 Van Halen: Val Halen 16 Art Pepper + eleven: modern jazz classics 17 Ted Nugent: free for all 18 Blue Oyster Cult: Blue Oyster Cult 19 Deep Purple: In rock 20 AC/DC: back in black
The Pete's honorable Classic Albums list:
2:24 - Piece of Mind - Iron Maiden
3:08 - Hall of the mountain King - Savatage
3:50 - Moving Pictures - Rush
4:48 - Whitesnake - Whitesnake
6:12 - Red - King Crimson

All right!
Judas Priest - Stained Glass
@@VarsityAthlete04
Judas Priest - Stained Class.
@@oppothumbs1 so, why don't you like rock and roll?
Agree or disagree with peoples top lists, it’s a great way to be reminded of great records or introductions to records you never heard.
@Mike Behrend Always is , friend !
MikeHF Have you heard The Shaggs “ Philosophy Of The World “ ?
MikeHF ..... “No offense” .. “BUT” .......... Whenever these three words begin any dialogue or conversation it cannot end well ... Just sayin’... 🙂🙂🙂

Cheers!
Who's finest..👍
quad is top 5 for me
I don't think I could do a definitive top 10, but 10 albums I absolutely love and never get tired of, not ranked, would be:
1. Iron Maiden--Powerslave
2. Rainbow---Straight Between the Eyes
3. Genesis---Abacab
4. Rush---Grace Under Pressure
5. Stevie Ray Vaughan---Couldn't Stand the Weather
6. Boston---Don't Look Back
7. Doobie Brothers---The Captain and Me
8. Black Sabbath---Heaven and Hell
9. Whitesnake---Slide It In
10. Van Halen---Van Halen II
That's 10 out of a gazillion or so.
This channel is gold, brings back so many memories and makes me want to create new ones.

Excellent list.
Rainbow Rising is one of the greatest albums of all time. The line up of Blackmore, Dio, Bain, Carey and Powell was never bettered. Dio's vocals soared !

When I honestly think of the greatest song ever written, 'Child in Time' is somewhere there.
True rockers always mention 'In Rock'. It's a given.
Deep Purple is Great.
Check out my 20 List.
Lone Star. Ian Gillan's voice! Omg! Love him.
"Child in Time" is absolutely stellar. The other best track on Purple's live album "Made in Japan" along with "Highway Star".
It still brings chills to me when i play it loud
In Rock is even better than Machine Head imo, so there ! Off topic, everyone's favorite Sabbath album is either Paranoid or Sabbath Bloody Sabbath...... For me, it's gotta be Master Of Reality. Damn, the 70's was the best rock era ever
Rainbow Rising was Dio's finest hour!
Great to see Yes and Jethro Tull make the list.
2 excellent bands!
I love "In Rock", but when you listen to "Machine Head" you realize how mature the band was and how great musicians they became at that point.
I'm totally in the minority and going to get shot down but prefer Coverdale to Gillan Burn was a fantastic album.
Agree on this one In Rock
In Rock was absolutely earth-shattering
@@andrewkeats3290 My favorite also.
@Alibobs Marland
BURN is an underrated masterpiece.
It was interesting hearing from people after the Iron Curtain came down in 1991.
There are strange and funny stories from then, students, from all over the Soviet Union.
EXAMPLE
One guy said they had to play Sail Away off Burn for their music exam !
Best music period if you ask me!
@@Kim-st3xg the best (hands down) without a doubt! 🙂
Powerage is still my favorite album of all time, great album front to back!
Let there be Rock's my favourite AccaDacca album.
@HARRY CHILDS I’d have to agree with you
good choice -- crazy that it's kind of underrated by AC/DC fans
All Fantastic Music!! There is no way to pick an absolutely favorite album, but 20 can make it easier. So here I go...

Black Sabbath - Master Of Reality
Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith

Whitesnake - Slide It In

Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
Van Halen - Van Halen

David Bowie - Blackstar
Cheap Trick - All Shook Up
Ozzy Osbourne - Diary Of A Madman

Arcade Fire - Funeral
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin
…there are many more, but these ones for sure take me to another timewhen I listen to them
Zenyata mondatta.?
What
That's not even the best Police album.
Nice!
Deep Purple In Rock and Rainbow Rising are Blackmores finest hours!
Rainbow's first album is the best of both blackmore/Dio IMO. Even Ronnie said he liked the first one better.
Sitting at my desk listening to In Rock...been years since I listened. What a great album!

Glad you mentioned Chicago Transit authority. I was made fun of for listening to them as a kid, all my so called friends were listening to Sabbath, Zeppelin, etc. Thank you, after 50 years I feel vindicated, lol. Terry Kath forever!!!!
Terry Kaths guitaring was phenomenal.
Secret Treaties and Foxtrot... I also love them both. BOC and early Genesis, howerver completely diverse in style, could write some amazing music.
Great top 20.. So hard to choose.. It would be so easy to put together a top 20 with just Zeppelin, Sabbath and Purple albums.. Those bands pretty much set the course for what was to come. Pleased to see UFO in there. Great band. And Rising. When Dio sings "there's a Rainbow Rising" during Stargazer, it brings tears to my eyes because of it beauty, power and sheer epic-ness. .
Great list, Rainbow Rising, Deep Purple in rock, and Physical Graffiti top my list along with Master of Reality by Black Sabbath

I saw Michael Schenker live last year in Stockholm. He is still great and really delivered!!
Great list Pete. I'll give it a whack. I could do a top 20 of all time just using Yes, Beatles and Crimson, but I'm going to use the no more than one by each band. So that way 20 artists will be represented.

But I believe 3 of the Greatest Metal albums of all times are the first 3 albums from RAINBOW with DIO on vocals. Those three are so incredibly. They still blow me away to this day. They have a very special place in my heart. Amazing albums. R.I.P. RJD 🙂\m/

Great list man. Was hoping to see Zappa on your list, but I am thrilled with your selection!
Loads of my mates and I love Vol4...but some days, Sabotage takes the prize!
@@ACoincidentalLife I actually only finally got Sabotage a few weeks ago. I had everything by Sabbath from the debut to Eternal Idol except for Technical Ecstasy and Sabotage back in the 80s. Now at last I have it!
Volume 4 was first Sabbath album I listened to. Checked it out of puplic library and was blown away. Sabotage might be #2 for me.
@@davestencel1053 Master Of Reality is #1 for me !
Oh you're not alone. Vol 4 is my fave as well.
Great list. I will be downloading that Uriah Heep record. Great job Pete.
Check from Uriah Heep - "Magician's Birthday" album too! It's amazing :)

Thank you for recognizing Equinox!
@@kevinthetruckdriver353 Thank you for recognizing Equinox! I love that album.
Terry Kath is criminally underrated in my opinion.
Yes!
I believe Hendrix said he was the best guitar player he ever heard.
My Top 10-

My late uncle was a jazz drummer and he introduced me to Gentle Giant when I was 13 years old (45 years ago) and they have been one of my absolute favorite bands of all-time. I was so lucky to see them live in Montreal (5th row from the front) and it's a show I'll never forget.
Great choices. Especially rainbow rising, there is none equal to that album
The late 70's and early 80's was such a great time for rock music. You have several from those years that I really like: Rush / Moving Pictures, Kansas / Leftoverture, and Styx / Grand Illusion. The other albums mentioned are great, too!
Hard to pick between Red and Lark's Tongues...I still don't know.
Starless, one of my favorites and has one the greatest outros I've ever heard.

I have no debate, I pick them all: Phenomenom, Force It, No heavy Pettin`, Lights Out, Obsession and Strangers in The Night.
Dont forget No Heavy petting.
Great episode, Pete! Great presentation!
We grew up in two very different worlds of musical experience and influence (with some expected '70s intersections), which is why I always appreciate your various tastes. I've tried a lot of new tunes based on your overviews and rankings. Thanks for putting rock out there.
Tulls BENEFIT! nice choice. this guy knows a good album. Loves prog. Yes always finding its way in, as it should be.

@Crazy Cooter I totally agree with you about Ted Nugent. I could of added him as well because he has made some brilliant albums like Cat Scratch Fever, Weekend Warriors, Double Live Gonzo, etc. If I made up a top 30 albums Ted would surely be there. 🙂
@@treffbennett6534 Thank you for your comment I'm sure once you listen to Wishbone Ash you will like them. 🙂
Queen- The Game
It’s really sad, how many of these I’ve never listened to before. Got some work to do. Physical Graffiti is an absolute monster of an album.

Thanks for giving Stained Class and Obsession props. Those were my favorite albums by Priest and UFO
So happy you chose Savatage and Maiden!! Love them both!
Wow. Thanks to this video I got to know about 'Castle Walls' by Styx, 'Nothing to Say' by Jethro Tull, 'Red' by King Crimson & 'Peel the paint' by Gentle Giant. I'm a 90's kid so I never grew up with this kind of music. I'm so glad I stumbled upon this Channel. This is exactly what I was searching for.. someone who can tell me what albums I should check out. Thanks Pete! Do you have a spotify account I can follow?

Rising also is a masterpiece with the greatest synth intro and outro in Tarot Woman of the history of rock.
Yes Yes and Yes! It is spellbinding.
John Smith - Tony Carey is a great musician who still makes amazing music! It’s hard to believe only he and Ritchie are still around from the Rising line-up. R.I.P., Ronnie, Coze and Jimmy. Ugh.
Tales Of Mystery And Imagination - Alan Parsons Project
Both insanely good, along with I Robot!
Pyramid was great as well....
Nice to see some love for Savatage. Always underrated.
Is it true this band became the TransSiberian Orchestra? If so, merry Christmas to you all.
@@wetherby6774 They didn't quite become TSO, but producer, Paul O'Neill, brought together several ex-Savatage members to form the core of the TSO in 96. O'Neill himself had produced albums for Savatage from "In the Hall of the Mountain King" onwards. So yeah, TSO were kind of birthed out of Savatage.
Thank you for the Gentle Giant recommendation. Such an amazing band.
I'm a little older than you are, and my choices are definitely more 60's.
1. Dan Fogelberg - Phoenix
2. Jethro Tull - Benefit
3. Led Zeppelin II
4. Santana- Abraxis
5. Blind Faith
6. Beatles - Abbey Road
7. Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
8. The Who - Who's Next

These are the albums I listen to the most. But I can't forget Aqualung!!!
Love to see the upcoming Deep Purple tour featuring Blue Oyster Cult
That is gonna be amazing
Nice list for sure ! My personal favorite Ozzy Diary of a Madman , Randy Rhoads just stupid good on that album.
Diary is absolutely my favorite metal album....Bob Daisley and Randy Rhoads made that album happen!
Thank ou so much for your list. So much fun and now I am digging into some sound of your list. Cheers!
Moving Pictures is my favorite album of all time!
@Stinkeye Jones i can certainly not disagree! Those albums are amazing.
Yeah! Obsession by UFO. Absolute classic
pete, jus started watching yer channel, im class of 75, s0 we have much in common musically, BUT BELIEVE IT OR NOT ,i had never heard the song "STARLESS", altho i knew some King Crimson, i never heard that one, thanx. NOW I HAVE AND IT WAS GREAT, GREAT SONG, REALLY LIKED IT.
Thanks to you, Pete, Savatage and UFO both have multiple albums in my top 30
you had me with the tee shirt. ( i actually tuned in to see if they made the list lol )

You mentioned BOC Secret Treaties so yer awright in my book.
Yes most definitely got to have Secret treaties. Epic cult album!
Sorry,Tyranny And Mutation.
@@ledzeplover58 Yep. Tyranny And Mutation for me as well. Followed by Secret Treaties, Agents Of Fortune, and the self-titled original in 4th place.
@@goopah For me it's T&M,Secret Treaties and the debut. Of course OYFOOYK shifts back and forth between the 3.
Priest’s “Stained Class” is probably my favorite studio album of all time
greg davidson for mine it’s just pipped by killing machine. Still, it’s a killer album. Beats the crap out of British steel which seems to get all the accolades.
sad wings of destiny ..do not forget
nuts45150 I’ll pay that. Changes is a beast of a song, and not a dud song on the album.
Teddy Malfoy for son reason I stopped listening after defenders of the faith. I was a fanatical jp fan, but after I saw the turbo lover vid I stopped. Not that I didn’t like the song... I just stopped. I even liked point of entry.
Teddy Malfoy recently re bought iron maiden and killers on I tunes. Great records.
Here is my list (I prefer to mention twice the same band if they occasionaly did two or three masterpieces despite I ignore some other bands that I trully love, that's just the way it is):
1 the Beatles: revolver
2 Queen: A night at the opera
3 Weather report: heavy weather
4 The Beatles: Rubber soul
5 John Coltrane: Giant steps
6 Nada Surf: the proximity effect
7 George Harrison: All thing must pass
