MP Lio Convoy next please? You can have him do his "hand holding of death" from the movie with Primal. Or the weird version of Prime Arcee and Bulkhead, even tho Laser Prime looks like Katoki (the guy who designed the Tallgesse and Gundam Unicorn from Gundam) was bored and drew something on a napkin.
You know, it's the little things, the attention to detail that makes Lazy Eyebrow's videos stand out. Case in point is at the 11:10 mark. The smooth motion of Hot Rod's slamming his chest closed (almost like how I close a cabinet door), the appropriate sound effects of the chest closing--just perfect.
Pro tip: don't transform the front fenders until the rest of the figure is done, then let them rest against the sides of the torso. They actually give dimension to his torso (even creating the trapezoid shape that should be there) and help alleviate the wonky shoulder to torso proportions. It results in his legs looking even more slender than they already were but, hey, fan modes are free.

Ngl, in my opinion, both modes look pretty accurate enough. It makes sense Hot Rod is darker-toned because of G1 footage being older now and also, the only complaint is some leg details. Other than that, I think it's close enough to spot-on
Roddy as a character I have no strong opinions on, but I have always loved his color schemes. Far too few Transformers use a lot of warm colors, it's all black/white/grey and blues or purples most of the time, sometimes greens, with the only common exceptions being the inevitable Optimus Primes in every line and usually one or two more red guys. Yellow, orange, and red do seem to be hard to match paint colors or even plastic batch colors so there are legitimate technical reasons I guess, but I'd still like to see them more often even so.

I bought this one just a couple months back. Mine also has a couple blemishes, like a dark line on the upper thigh in robut mode, but I honestly couldn't give af for getting it for like $36. I'm also a lot more functionalist than perfectionist when it comes to, well, any manbaby toys I get, be they Transformers or legos or used high-end US-made guitars made over a decade ago which I've found really good deals on.
Outstanding review! (And hilarious gerwalk!) Thank you! Heh. I got the MP-09 Rodimus Convoy -- y'know, the one that was so bad, Takara apologised to everyone for it -- and I picked up the supposedly retooled and apparently made-of-peanut-brittle 2011 Toys R Us "Targetmaster Hot Rod" version . . . and then I never wanted another Masterpiece Hot Rod / Rodium Prime EVER AGAIN.
It’s weird how much engineering this version shares with Animated Hot rod from like 2008. The arm based armature transformation and the folding legs, backpack with the windshield and rotating wing.
I was cleaning my MP-28 with alcohol and.....rubbed off most of the painted on flamey chest. So I ended up getting the Reprolabels kit for MP-28 and he looks much better now (and clean too).
That thumbnail though. Having Rot Rod's footsteps get louder at the end is terrifying. He's coming for ya! Any reason you bought this knockoff over the actual masterpiece toy? Also what's the knockoff name? These things always have a "totally not the transformer you think it is" name.
Although a lot of newer MP figures are overpriced and some border on being too complex, one thing I think they do better than the older figures is how they handle proportions. Everything from Masterpiece Megatron onwards has had much more anime-esque stances, which I think has helped smoke out that awkwardness-syndrome MP-28 and some of the older car bots suffered from. @The Lazy Eyebrow | True, but Hot rod does a better job at spreading the parts, and compacting the rest, such as the upper sides of the car forming his arms, and rest of the back of the car forming a sturdy and well formatted backpack. Arcee’s way of handling her vehicle mode kibble is just slapping everything on her back just to attain her slender hourglass shape.
This was a great video, I especially appreciate the car running off at the end. It looks like you ended getting an Earthrise Arcee no matter how much you didn’t want it huh, are you planning to get the new ss86 one by the way?

The chrome loss at the sprue marks apparently seems to be a thing with some copies of the legit MP28, too. I'm amazed that you missed one huge detail: there's a subtle improvement on the MP28 KO in vehicle mode. The wheels actually sit lower from the car body compared to the legit MP28, so it can roll properly; the legit simply doesn't have the clearance to do it since the wheels are just about buried in the car body like a lowrider...that's too low. Annoyingly, they never did a KO of the MP40 Targetmaster Hot Rod. (I'd ordered what was listed as a KO, only for it to be a legit Hasbro Asia release (Takara box, crappy Chinese language information sticker slapped on somewhere, Chinese copies of the instructions & collector card included IN ADDITION TO the existing Japanese ones)...complete with the 💩 clearance in vehicle mode. Also: be careful with the visor!! It can and no doubt will snap right off over time. I very seldomly use the visor of SS86-4 Hot Rod after my MP40 visor broke because of that. And as for the weapons, whether it's Hot Rod's Photon Lasers or Firebolt (repainted and slightly retooled from the "Offshoot" that replaced the trailer of Hasbro's crappy colored MP09), he sucks at holding them. The tabs are too fat for the slots in his hands, so one of two things happen: either he can't close his hands properly and attempting it will pop out the guns just enough to make it an iffy grip...or the tabs just pop out a bit on their own before you even close the hands in the first place.
huh. i wasn't aware of that, as i never had an official one. interesting that this figure was actually an improvement over the official. in fact I'm told that foot stability was a point of contention and it's just not even remotely an issue here
I have such mixed feelings on this guy. I love everything except the chest, which is arguably his most distinctive feature. I wish they'd omitted the Matrix chamber and gotten the torso shape accurate instead. Leaving the corner flaps partially transformed helps a bit.

basically my point was you don't need to lower your standards. if the price tag is $300, you have every right to be as nitpicky as you like. it's (according to their use of the term "masterpiece") supposedly the definitive version of this character, and there's no excuse for it being awful
Hey Lazy Eyebrow, are you going to review the new Magic Square Optimus Prime 2.0? Its a really good figure, and it would be pretty nice to see you review a legends scale figure again.
I think overall I prefer the SS Hot Rod over the MP. Credit where credit is due; the alt-mode on MP HR is way better, and the shins are obviously better as well. However I feel that's where my compliments stop. the chest is way too blocky, to where he looks like a cube with legs. Yeah I get that SS is a fake piece, but I don't mind fake pieces if it gets that accuracy nailed right and the real piece is hidden well. Adding to the cubed look, the fact the whole car mode crumples up into a backpack doesn't sit right with me. Granted the SS HR doesn't have the back vents, but honestly the way half that car mode crumples up is just so sleek that I'm ok with that sacrifice. It's still a fairly clean back! The SS Hot Rod also gave me a huge Roger Rabbit effect, where the MP is like, "Yeah, that's a Hot Rod." I really love my SS Hot Rod, I am one to say he feels like MP at regular store price. Does he have his flaws? Of course, the yellow hinges are garish, and his knees sticking out of the back of alt-mode is pretty funny, but he looks good next to my Kingdom Optimus on my Autobot shelf.
Look, I know you just said you had enough, but..have you checked out the Cyberverse deluxe Hot Rod? I feel like he's a perfect candidate for a almost literally blank canvas for someone with customizing skills like you, the engineering is pretty solid for a simplified Hot Rod, but he is like 99% red plastic with so few paint apps that not only look both like they needed another coat AND not different enough to the red plastic that they might as well not be there, but they're so sparse that they don't even full cover the pieces.
In 2017, circumstances were such that i was going to wnd the channel. So in 2018, i sold everything off and used the money to move my fanily to a better location. In 2019, circumstances changed and i restarted the channel and my collection

I really love my SS Hot Rod, I am one to say he feels like MP at regular store price. Does he have his flaws? Of course, the yellow hinges are garish, and his knees sticking out of the back of alt-mode is pretty funny, but he looks good next to my Kingdom Optimus on my Autobot shelf.
I don't mind the faux chest on 86 Hot Rod.
Judging by the finish on the face sculpt you can tell its a ko. Ouch 😁
Now you just need power of the primes rodimus abd you have all main line hot rods
Transformers animated hot rod has that burgundy red color.
Can i ask you something? What's your equipment for animating?

Look, I know you just said you had enough, but..have you checked out the Cyberverse deluxe Hot Rod? I feel like he's a perfect candidate for a almost literally blank canvas for someone with customizing skills like you, the engineering is pretty solid for a simplified Hot Rod, but he is like 99% red plastic with so few paint apps that not only look both like they needed another coat AND not different enough to the red plastic that they might as well not be there, but they're so sparse that they don't even full cover the pieces.
**runs away screaming in gerwalk mode**
Masterpiece Hot Rod isn't the only sportscar with legs underneath, there was Autobot Whirl, a helicopter gunship with legs!!!
I'm sorry, but that sounds like "Hot Rod isn't the only sportscar, Whirl is also a helicopter."
Do you still have studio cell? Why did you get rid of the mps? Why do I care? So many questions....your thoughts?
In 2017, circumstances were such that i was going to wnd the channel. So in 2018, i sold everything off and used the money to move my fanily to a better location.
In 2019, circumstances changed and i restarted the channel and my collection
@@TheLazyEyebrow Damn. It's tough in the streets. I went through some shit too once, cost me all my MIB G1 stuff. I'm glad that you're still in the game though.
