Ugh frrr I can understand that an exciting clickbaity video title makes them more money but this is literally lying, for me personally it heavily damages the viewer 'relationship' and the trustworthiness and credibility of the influencer. Now I'm like okayyy so you're thís type of influencer.... Like come on why not just say you're traveling, people love travel vlogs you'll be fine
I am 186cm tall woman and I remember going to Amsterdam and having the exact same experience you are describing about "feeling normal" and suddenly not having to be conscious of your height (which also highlighted to me how much I think about my height subconsciously on an everyday basis!). It was such a liberating experience!
That's awesome, Elena! My wife & I did something similar last year. We spent 4 months overseas on 4 different continents & nearly 20 countries. You are going to have a blast! We moved from the Washington DC area to San Diego 4 years ago and now moving to New York City! Keep living the good life!
The very apparent hustle culture you’ve been feeling is also just part of the career path you have chosen or are currently in. It’s not just NYC giving off those hustle vibes. Maybe the next move is to just not move to another big city? It sometimes feels like you think Europe is the only place you can make a work life balance happen, but you can control that balance in the US.
Agree, I think people overestimate how easy it is to just blame all of their woes on the city, and don’t realize that moving abroad (or to a new place) isn’t just going to magically solve that feeling of unease. This reminds me of another RUclipsr who is basically a permanent nomad and while she tries to frame it as so exciting and wonderful, it’s very obvious to see that she doesn’t have a strong community around her b/c it’s hard to build one when you’re constantly moving around.
Have you lived in NYC? Speaking from experience, it's a very exhausting, non-stop, corporate-driven place to live. I don't blame her wanting a slower life -- I did the same and moved away.
@@InternetGirl1093appreciate these comments! i just traveled for about a month with a friend of mine who’d been at it for almost a year. she was craving to “settle” somewhere and build community. traveling was exciting but she got very burnt out on it, and questioning why she was even doing it. kind of like escapism.
Do you ever think about that maybe (just maybe) you support the gentrification of the place, specially when it comes to the cites like Amsterdam, Paris, also Portugal in recent years, and that maybe your picture of Europe (which is super generalized, bcs Europe is not just France, Netherlands or Germany...) is just romanticized bcs you have certain life starndard and afford certain stuff?
The gentrification is completed or almost in those places but very valid points otherwise. She's privileged, ofc she will live this kind of life, who can blame her?
Awww... that dog that you tried to pet in Vondelpark is called Luna - I'm her dog-walker and she's a shy rescue girl so don't be offended if she was like 'nah!'. Sadly, today Luna is moving to the U.K. and I just sent her owner the clip!
I find the convo about hight and size really intresting. I'm a short petite girl who was born and raised in Sweden where the norm was to be tall and skinny and although I was petite I have always felt a certain way about my hight beacuseof these idelas. I've also experienced that you are likely to be feminized and treated with less respect when you are shorter in stature. And sadly there are plenty of studies out there that show that taller women get higher salaries and better positions within the workforce which to me speaks volume. So its not that black and white although it may seem that being petite is idealiazed I can say that it's not always the case.
As an New York native who moved to Amsterdam with my parents, welcome! The lifestyle is so much more relaxed. We hustle but also love our time off. And traveling is so much easier
I feel like Americans completely romanticise life in Europe… we don't have the perfect work / life balance like you all seem to believe haha. We have to work just like you guys…
Totally agree. I'm from the UK and each time an American says that, can't understand it. Ur working from 9am to 6pm in the UK and other people do different shifts some are 12 hours a day. Really don't know what the Americans are imagining 😂. Anyway loved the vlog
I think they see it as perfect because they get to work more comfortably in Europe, remotely with an American paycheck which definitely makes a difference in the day to day lifestyle and overall experience of being able to do more hence enjoy more
I kinda get it because in France my family seem to always be on holiday and have a slower pace of life whereas my family in the UK seem to be working more and for not as much. There is definitely a better work and life balance in Europe but obviously it depends where you live and your income
I don’t know if it’s because I have an African passport or because I am black or because of both, but I feel like I can’t just pa k my bags and leave and I wish I could.
I agree with you. She used it just to get RUclips views. She is just traveling and not moving….she is just a typical RUclipsr….LOL. Nothing wrong with that since Influencing is her job
As a tall Dutchie myself, when I visited California a few years back I felt like a giant compared to locals… Before this I never noticed, when walking around in Amsterdam, how nice it is to have people’s faces at “eye-level” 🥲 Also; the appartement you stayed in looks huge compared to most Amsterdam homes I’ve seen. For real, especially in the city center. Loved seeing this city from another perspective. I guess we do live at a lower pace compared to NYC
Yes dutchies are tall (and beautiful too)! I remembered when I first came to study to NL, so taken aback that the bathroom mirrors were always too tall I had to stand on my toes LOL and I am 165cm it’s not even that short tbh 😅
I feel like this is where am at in my life right now minus the courage to actually GO on a self discovery journey n i finding where i want to be in the world... looking forward to your next videos n wishing u luck n support 💕
Omg I cannot believe it’s been 5 years 😮 I’ve been hopping along with you since your college days and it’s so precious to follow you evolving alongside my own journey! Looking back over the 5 years is a true sign that we can achieve and create a life worth living in whichever direction we choose 🤍
elena!! would you be able to make a video about the clothes you packed and where you got your staple pieces?! also i love your necklace and belt in the beginning of the video if you could link 🥰
AWESOME video Elena, we just got back not too long ago from some Thailand adventures too, but hopefully the wife and I can just pack up and leave like this one day soon! 🙂
I hope you enjoy your time in Europe! ☀💫🌸 As a Dutchie I would recommend you to see other places too than Amsterdam (Utrecht, The Hague, Rotterdam or even Maastricht), because I feel like you would get to know to country even more. Amsterdam does not equal The Netherlands ;) Oh and the height thing is so funny: I'm a shortie so in The Netherlands I am usually the shortest across my friends, but I have come to accept it. Height does not define you!
Welcome to my homecountry, hope you had a good time 7:45 not everyone in this country is tall haha, I'm a men and only 188cm's, but the general population is indeed tall haha
i LOVE this for you!! i currently work in a lab and I am trying to transition into a remote job for this EXACT reason, I want to be able to travel and experience other countries while I am still young. Good luck!! I can't wait to see where you go :)
There are a few videos like this on her channel. Where she leaves for the summer and then comes back to ny lol congrats on this “new journey” can’t wait to see all the videos.
It’s so weird to see the romanticised version of the country I live in. I don’t know why but it just seems so different from the perspective I look at my country and it made me realise that I maybe should look at it in a more different and beautiful way haha. I do highly recommend going to Utrecht some day, it has the same cute and cultural vibes but it is so much less touristy. Love to see you’re point of view of our little country haha
Amizades, leituras, natureza urbana e muita alegria! Sim, também seu estilo de vida, viagem... Vou ficando por aqui. Felicidades! Até outra oportunidade! Thank you!
I've been in NL since last June studying :) A very special place in my heart now and will go back to Cali in a couple months. Enjoy the boat parties!!!!
Regarding heights and feeling "normal": my sister (and actually me as well) is shorter/more petite than the average German person, so every time she visits me in Spain, she feels very comfortable because people are not as tall as they are where we are from. :D I can see how it makes her happy, so I can understand why you wanted to talk about it.
Wow I’m impressed , from new Amsterdam (New York) to Amsterdam ❤️👀 since u asked : I like to ride a corvette , but after all going to a city makes not any more really sense to me , I feel at home when I’m lying in grass , so far off traffic I can’t even hear a car , I can hear the wind quietly rushing through the trees , look into the blue sky , maybe some white clouds hearing also the birds & some bugs in the tall grass , & all ways some honeybees fly by
Elena ! You should come to Innsbruck Austria! It’s an amazing city full of art, culture, sociable, nature, you can bike ride to everywhere, everything. 😊
Okay, trying to find the right words for this, I love your travel vlogs, have for years. But it seems like a stretch saying you moved? I'm not sure what the difference between this and going on a long holiday would be?
Elena we miss you. We miss you so much man 😢 but I’m happy you finally took the leap and subleased your nyc apartment, have fun in Europe/Asia/wherever the world calls you ❤️
So cool you are in the Netherlands :) Welkom in Amsterdam ❤ it's so wholesome that you feel normal here in NL in regards to your height. As a fellow tall girl and a Dutchie I know it's an ideal place to live! About the better help sponsorship though, there have been people speaking out against them. There's a video called The Scary Truth about Better help. I hope you'll take a look at it

Hello) So I found your channel because of your reset/room makeover video, and now I am watching this… from Europe! I live in Fuerteventura and I recommend you to check it out on your trip 💖
Have you ever heard the term "Great Things take Time?" I always read the small print before rushing into things. I have found most people have no direction in life because of this reason. Always ask yourself, in a day and world where everyone is doing the same thing, youtube/instagram what makes them any better than anyone like Zendaya for example. Have you heard her first Album? Definitely worth a listen. Then there's the Kardashians and Kanye West with songs like I am A God. :-)
Of course, there world be Nordic beauties who would be around your height. I bet if you went to other Nordic countries you would see more very tall, interesting and beautiful people. And very blonde. Unfortunately it's cold AF most of the time with long winter. You and Gabby are traveling at the perfect time. I hope you reconnect with that beautiful Frrench young man whose "family boat" looked like something from an AD spread. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that you might meet your Prince Charming.
Excited for this series!! Also you should do a talk vid sometime about how you feel the hustle culture is, I’m curious bc I live in nyc and CA too but I’ve never felt the “non-hustle” culture.. so I feel like its the norm for me? But I’m curious to hear your thoughts!
I’m a shorty gal at 5’2 that really hates heels. I already have a complex about my height so good to know that I would have to prepare myself for being extra sensitive about it in Amsterdam.
i just returned to nyc after my summer month in europe! went to so many of your amsterdam, paris, and barcelona recs i’ve accumulated from following you over the years!
why do influencers love to say they're "moving" somewhere when they're visiting the place for a few weeks??
Ugh frrr I can understand that an exciting clickbaity video title makes them more money but this is literally lying, for me personally it heavily damages the viewer 'relationship' and the trustworthiness and credibility of the influencer. Now I'm like okayyy so you're thís type of influencer.... Like come on why not just say you're traveling, people love travel vlogs you'll be fine
It the same as when they say they adopted a dog when in reality they brought it from a breeder 🤦🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
And now "for the summer" was added to the title so people click first and then later she adds but it's just for summer 😂 kinda lame
You clicked...so thats why
They call ot clickbait
