Hi Elena! Great that you enjoy Portugal and all its wonderful things it has to offer :) However, please don't disregard in your content that digital nomadism is causing a huge housing crisis in Portugal, in particular, in Lisbon! It's disheartening to see my friends and family telling me about the crazy costs of living in Lisbon nowadays caused by digital nomads, who earn way more than the average Portuguese and can therefore afford to live there with competitive costs... Everyone knows that the problem in itself it's not people 'discovering' Portugal, but how the government is handling it. Im Portuguese and I dont even consider living in Lisbon anymore bc that's just as expensive as living in London for example... But still, much like the neighbourhoods in NYC, Lisbon is becoming aggressively gentrified, and to us, Portuguese folks it is heartbreaking. Digital nomads don't ignore the social context of the place you're landing in. Trust me, it will save everyone a lot of trouble.
I am so sorry to hear this. I knew it was sort of going on, because it happens in most major cities (shoutout Amsterdam), but I wasn't aware it was so dire in Lisbon. I recently booked a stay for 2 months in Lisbon. This company only had houses in Lisbon, so I thought I was dealing with a Portuguese company. However, when I paid, I discovered my payment went to the UK. And I thought: "At least I am supporting their economy"... Lisbon is an attractive location for its good internet speed + sun (and it is absolutely stunning). I really hope your government finds a way to make a win-win of this economic opportunity.
I work remotely but honestly I would never call myself digital nomad and speak and brag just because I work in different countries and its honestly not that amazing how this tiktokers RUclipsr make that look like don’t believe everything you see in social media also when you share how cheap the place it is and affordable as American you are also being very selfish and affecting the locals cuz now a bunch of “digital nomads” moves temporarily to this places, rents and prices goes up for the locals it’s better when you keep it low and not brag to much about this on social media I don’t support this type of content
@@idng1908 while this is true, its a particular issue in portugal at the moment and something that has been the cause of a lot of political tension. an influx of digital nomads from places like the US where salaries are so much higher is going to be more of a problem in countries where salaries are low, particularly when it comes to housing because they can just afford to pay inflated rent prices
That place is "Weekly from: $448". This is almost double the price of what a monthly rent used to be. This is what is driving us away from our capital. Please, PLEASE, reconsider the promotion of such place. This is killing Lisbon. Soon, it will only be an empty shell.
This year, I was surprised (more like shocked) at the number of Americans (with no Portuguese roots) that have toured or who are already living in Portugal from what I've learned. Even some American riff-raff are appearing in the most rural areas which is odd to me while prices everywhere are shooting up in general across the country. The cultural shift is what worries me the most. Some folks like this young lady posting the video are fine as one can tell, but there are some wacky characters out there. Well, it's like I say: "All are welcome. Just don't fuck it up." As an American with direct ties to Portugal, my concern is that it is going to end up that way eventually thanks to globalization and social media which I think does more harm than good. Any way, it's the same thing to those who leave New York and California to migrate to Texas and Florida for a "better quality of life" or so they think. There are challenges/struggles everywhere so don't bring the ideology of the corrupt politics that you're fleeing from with you to the new place so that it doesn't also become contaminated and then it repeats itself.
I worked in Lisbon a while back in a coworking space that was more of a locals coworking space. I thought it was awesome and the Portuguese I met there have remained friends over the years. Can't remember the name of the space though! It was on the very large and long boulevard / square that runs from the earthquake rebuilt area away to the north and west.
this couldn’t have come at a better time! i’m going to outsite lisbon for a month next week and have been feeling a bit nervous about it as i’m someone who’s never lived in such a shared space but this is getting me excited!
Elena, I usually love your videos and this one is good as well but please do not use the word "ex-pat" that's just a word for white immigrant whit privileges, I hear that in Lisbon as well as in México (where I'm from) white immigrants are calling themselves expats and digital nomads, living in our cities without paying any extra cost and just raising prices for the locals and causing gentrification and exhiliation of millions of people who had lived in some areas for generations. Please be more aware of this situation. ❤
outsite seems like a cool concept, tho like you said theyre in more touristy areas. you mentioned one being in albania and georgia but i dont see that on their site? is there perhaps another company doing that? if so, can you share? thanks!
Lisboa looks wonderful. I just booked a trip with the option “surprise destination”; I’ll know the destination only two days before leaving and one of the cities that I could get is Lisboa. After I watched this video, I really hope to get it. ❤Anyway loved the video as always. Kisses from Italy ❤
I don’t mean to sound weird .. but you have perfect beautiful skin. Will you ever make a skincare routine or diet vide.. or whatever you do to keep it so perfect??
Given your frequent discussions on sustainability (which by the way encompasses not just environmental aspects but also social and economic dimensions), I believe it's important for you to acknowledge and respond to the criticisms regarding the influence of digital nomadism on the housing crisis, not only in Portugal but in other places as well. I feel disheartened when I see people raising concerns about the inconsistencies between your sustainability rhetoric and the lack of attention to these issues. I greatly appreciate your style and aesthetics, but your silence on this matter suggests that some of your content may indeed stem only from a position of privilege.
E.t. 🎉🎉🎉 Digital nomads maybe a misnomer? Like its like mini ecosystem saying hey this a mini aesthetic/ fashion style run through saying hey this location also has similar ideological values? (Its more than diplomats do.) Yeah sure technology made it possible but is it not in its next iteration of well maybe ppl aren't getting a degree at a university abroad but like trying to make components of what industries (??) R there that also just need input from people who are savvy millennial travelers. Take that tik tok.
Okay, comments we get it. You’re upset with the super rich (probably not her) and you feel entitled to an apology/acknowledgment of inflation from Elena caused by the super rich (still not her). Right…Good luck to Elena on her solo fight to end digital nomad inflation around the world. Can’t wait for inflation to end once she finally acknowledges it!
These past few days watching my crypto portfolio decline is very disheartening. holding does not really profit much. any Idea on how to earn better in the short run?
My advice to anyone feeling the heat In this bear market. just trade long term more than ever. If you can then get a professional to trade for you. i think that way your assets are more secure .i Invest with Mrs chloe Scarlett and the profit is great even with the dip•
I agree. most people think that Investing In crypto Is all about holding till It rises, with the recent crash in the market we should know that long term price predictions are very difficult to achieve. trading with mrs chloe makes I do that rather than gamble on long term investment and still losing to the Dip. It's better to trade crypto on short and make profit. i trade under her too•

You're in my country! glad you enjoyed it :) I just hoped having people here like digital nomads didn't make living so unaffordable to us

Digital nomads are making housing in cities like Lisbon unaffordable to local people:((
It happens in all globalized cities 😢
And also food prices
@@idng1908 while this is true, its a particular issue in portugal at the moment and something that has been the cause of a lot of political tension. an influx of digital nomads from places like the US where salaries are so much higher is going to be more of a problem in countries where salaries are low, particularly when it comes to housing because they can just afford to pay inflated rent prices
@@carlottar7337 yeah, that’s true, and it is true for every globalized city in the world. The housing crisis is a world wide issue
Stop blaming tourists. Blame your government and the property owners

This is terrible. Digital nomads are ruining our economic system 😢 please don't do this to Lisbon.
Omg I'm from Portugal!! 🇵🇹 So glad you came here
Love your country :,)
Thanks for the info! My wife and I are about to move there for a month and this was helpful! Keep up the good work!
Lisbon looks absolutely beautiful!! Definitely added to my travel list after this watch!
Amazing to see your videos since like 2018 and now you have a vlog in my country! and specially in one of the most beautiful cities in the world
I love your videos so much, I love the way you show us the city and you are such a lovely person

Lisbon is the love of my life 💙 Lived and worked there for 2 years.
Why the Mexican huapangos tho?
I am not saying the soundtrack should be 100% Portuguese, but huapangos have literally nothing to do with Portugal
Awesome, love Lisbon! Keep having fun, Elena!
Lisbon looks incredible! really makes me want to go!
Omg I recognized Outsite immediately!! Good mems
Those rooftop shots are so gorgeous!

Sounds like you're describing Avenida da Liberdade/Praça Marquês de Pombal. Could have been a place called Spaces.
7:21 is this the street where they filmed "Agent Stone"?
Btw you chose music in spanish and not in portuguese and thats kinda lame
this couldn’t have come at a better time! i’m going to outsite lisbon for a month next week and have been feeling a bit nervous about it as i’m someone who’s never lived in such a shared space but this is getting me excited!
Since you are in Portugal you should try the first Nomad Village in the world in Ponta do Sol - Madeira Island - 1h30 flight from Lisbon
welcome to Portugal, hope you enjoyed it 🩷✨️✨️

Nice vlog and your friend seems like a really cool guy! 🎉
Im so early! Luv u ❤
How do people work at cafes sitting on stools or benches with no back? After 5 min my back is killing me
please don't promote digital nomads in lisbon since we are having a housing crisis because of them :')
Great tourist selfies.
Portugal is a dream

I really like to meet you in person. I live near Lisbon.
Hey Elena...is youtube your only job ? I don't really see alot of sponsored posts on your channel ,how do you cope ?
My husband and I lived in Lisbon for a month, and the brunch scene was... so fantastic!
Elena..ako vzdy TOP VIDEO👍😉
I would not recommend the cities in Albania, only the nature :)
Adorei o video
Awesome
Lisbon is cool! You are DEF a Francophile though haha....could see you having fun here but not nearly as much as in Fraaaannccceee
I simply can't stand influencers, bloggers, and DJs. Providing nothing of value while using others to pay for their travel.
I saw you there too shy to say hi.
Why is the video so over edited and choppy..
NYC
Why do you have a Russian name?
