    After fighting to install 2 sides of a panel of screen I found this video. It took me 2 hrs, a huge blister on the inside of my hand and tears of frustration. After watching just 5 minutes of this video realizing I’m putting it in upside down. I’m not taking it out now…
    But I tried the 3rd panel with just 5 minutes of knowledge and slides right in. I feel dumb, but ever so relieved

    Oh my God this guy is a total genius!! I've seen over 20 videos and not one person got into detailing the hard part of the installation. At first I was going to exit out of your video immediately, because I found it too slow ..but decided to watch it to the end, and let me tell you ..you saved me a million aggravations!! God bless you Sir. I did it in 10 minutes. I also noticed that you video had many viewer's .. thousands and thousands of people,but very few decided to press the LIKE button. Your video should be THE MOST watched video in this type of work.. Gracias Amigo!!!!

    Thank you for this video. Spent 2 hours with terrible job and it was incomplete, and looked terrible. Using the flat spline was frustrating until i found your video with key hints and instructions. went back after viewing your video and had it finished perfectly in less that 30 minutes. the door and screen were old, so adding the dish soap was key.

    I have done bunch of screen enclosures with flat spline. Generally all that was said in this video is right. Couple of things I'd recommend: 1) in the demonstration with the 4" piece you start pressing in the middle of the spline. No good. Always start at the beginning of the spline. It will make your life a lot easier. Also as you go down the line, especially on long streches you can put that spline against the groove and pull on it gently. It will go in without trouble. 2) When you put the screen against the groove point that roller (sharp wheel) into the deep groove in about 45 deg angle and pre roll that screen as demostrated here. Spline will go in super easy. 3) If you need to remove the spline, pry the end like Stephen did and pull ALONG. Don't try tu pull it in 90 dergree angle or what have you, it will likely brake and you'll have to start over. This is especially true for old brittle spline.

    thank you for taking the time with the drawing and explaining the difference in the grooves. This was needed to understand how it works. I actually replaced one of my screens with .190 round and it works well. Not sure if its ok to use that for the flat spline frame but it already survived a windy day.

    I had a few panels damaged around the pool from dogs, a bear, and a hurricane so I went out today to take them on. 20 minutes of kneeling down with that tool was enough to know there had to be a better way, though I was making progress. Thanks for the tips, hopefully tomorrow will be more rapid and I can finish up. The main point I missed that I learned here was I was feeding the spline into the short side first. You can make it work that way but its difficult and risky to cut the screen. if you cut the screen on the outer edge its fine because you were going ro cut it anyway. Thanks! Id much rather watch a retrospective of lessons learned in the school of hard knocks than attend the class myself.

    Thank you for this video. My daughter and I have tried to install flat spline many times over the past 6 years and always gave up in frustration. Your instructions and diagrams clearly demonstrated where we were going wrong. It wasn't. easy but we were able to re screen the top of our patio enclosure with the flat spline. Thank you again.

    • @stephenfiore9960
      @stephenfiore9960  8 лет назад

      ...........I had the same problem. I had installed many new screens with round spine very easily with just a screw driver and razor knife. Then I tried to install this flat screen spline and spent many hours overall trying to get this flat screen spline (FSS) in correctly. It was very frustrating to me too. Between a lady employee at Lowes and many cryptic internet /RUclips info on FSS, I finally figured it out. The first time I did my FSS screen repair I ended up shaving off some of the FSS to make it fit. The screen eventually got loose again. The bag that I got the FSS in, didn't even have directions. All the RUclips videos I watched ignored describing the most important fact that the slot you put FSS has a deep side and a shallow side. I hope you saw my related RUclips video on how you use full strength dish soap before you put in the FSS to lubricate the FSS and let it slip into the slot easier (this only needs to be done on old doors and window that are pitted). I must thank both Home Depot and Lowes. Nylon/Vinyl/ plastic screen is much easier to install than the metal screen even thought they both look almost identicle.

    • @nunyabidnss9094
      @nunyabidnss9094 6 лет назад

      Scott Brown completely incorrect!!!!!!!
      . Flat spline comes in 1 size. 1 size DOESNT fit all since frame grooves now come in 3-4 different groove diam. and require different spline diameters. Youre not going to squeeze this flat spline into a .160 or .140 dia. groove. Only .175 & .190
      A .210 groove this shit falls out if you sneeze on it.

  • @FLaDave351
    @FLaDave351 6 лет назад

    Sorry but the rounded side of the spline goes inside not the flat side - it holds better.

  • @miltonmatthews2138
    @miltonmatthews2138 3 года назад

    You are doing it the hard way too. You don't push the spline in with the tool - it's a roller so you roll it in. Bunch of amateurs producing these videos and make this simple procedure much harder than it really is.

  • @USMC-Sniper-0137
    @USMC-Sniper-0137 2 года назад

    Don't even know why some idiot would invent flat spline! Round spline was just fine. Flat Spline is one size fits all and so what! Round spline makes for a more perfect job.

  • @nunyabidnss9094
    @nunyabidnss9094 6 лет назад +1

    You fkd up so many things on this tutorial video, but its clear you're not all together upstairs so....
    Worst thing is that you tried to remove that spline with a screwdriver OVER the screen instead of under it. You shredded the screen in doing so.
    Wrong move.
    Also flat spline only works on .175 & .190 diameter grooves. Not any others.
    Keep practicing bud you'll get better.
