    As an African football lover and follower, this was the golden generation of Nigerian 🇳🇬 football since 1990 to 2023. They could put another starting 11 and still win the AFCON. 🔥🔥🔥💖💖

    The last 15mins really was Zambia's. They came back with so much steam. Kalusha's strike would surely release tears in the eyes of many. The support from the crowd got many Nigerians uncomfortable. An equaliser would have turned the stadium upside down. A great match.

    This team put Nigeria on the world map. After the final win the team proceeded to USA for the world cup and herald Nigeria,s arrival on world stage of football and instantly became the darlings of football fans around the world. Corrupt NFF now cannot assembly quality team like this one. The Abacha era was truly the golden age of Nigerian football.

    I remember this match. Watched it on black and white tv sitting on the floor of a parked hotel reception area in Lagos. I was 14 then. The only time my dad would come with us cos we had no light and no petrol for the generator at home. Sonwe haf to find somewhere anyhow. We were all sweating. The whole place went upside down after the final whistle. Respect to the Zambian team though. I remember being afraid that they could score an equalizer in the dying minute and win on pens everytime they crossed into the box. Great match.

    In the good olden days when Europen had not sunk in deep racism as we have now. I bet you today no African cup of Nations final will attract this huge publicity and dignitaries today. Just because of Europen union expansion to the eastern part of its continent

    • @finekristal618
      @finekristal618 4 года назад

      Thats correct, initially europeans were excited about africans. But the racism today was due massive illegal influx of refugees into their countries. Since Lybia was destroyed, a lot of africans have fled their home countries through Lybia, due to bad governance and chronic corruption. The two things ravaging africa till date.

    That was was the real super eagles in those days. I watched them in Nairobi. Thanks to the late Chief Abiola. Of course, the majority of them were from Abiola babes.

      As a teenager there's only one other player I had known to be putting his life, blood, sweat and tears for a team like this that's Diego, Mr. K Balwa here tore Nigeria apart showed he was way, way above the rest of African players at the time.

    With the pre Gabon disaster team, it would have been a closer contest. Rashidi Yakenis link play would have been extinguished. Kelvin Mutale was good in the air and ball at feet, he would have proved to be too nimble for the static Super Eagles defence, plus scoring from range was also part of their arsenal. Mtsrip 🙏 for both teams

    Okocha's replacement Nduka Ugbade would have made a record of first man to play in all FIFA age grade tournament if he made the USA World Cup 1994. As a youth player, fresh from St. Finbarrs College Akoka-Lagos, Ugbade was captain of the Nigeria U-16 male soccer team that won the 1985 FIFA U-16 World Championship (later referred to as JVC/FIFA at the following edition after which it metamorphosed to its current name and status -Coca-Cola/FIFA U-17 WC). The event was held in China and brought Ugbade into prominence after Jonathan Akpoborie(5min) and Victor Igbinoba (80+min)scored unreplied goals for Nigeria against West Germany, securing what was Nigeria's and Africa's first major win in football on the global stage.
