thank you Katherine! i donot have interesting on shopping. from your video i watched the yellow dog jumped to other side of a ditch maybe got injured for he missed and hit on the edge. i am in the usa, here now is 9:40 p.m.
Great video! China is such a diverse country. There are things dating back 1000's years ago. What got my attention is rice terraces on the mountain sides, the amazing mountains and temples on the top of the mountains. I am planning for more hikes and discover more about the rural areas of China in the near future.
One of your videos is worth a thousand words. I love the story telling in these videos. I feel like I am there watching the locals live their peaceful lives. Living off the land, chickens, geese, and harvesting their vegetables is how God intended us to live. It is no wonder they can work well into their 80's and 90's. Words cannot describe adequately what your videos show in the integration of these people with their living environment! Keep up the good work.
Your videos are great testament of the true nature of the Chinese people: peace-loving, hardworking, family-oriented, law-abiding and kind-hearted. Thank you for showing the world the beautiful environment of the Zhejiang villages. The mini-temples in the villages are like the community centers of the rural American towns. That's where local people go to hang out for village events or family events, such as wedding banquets or high school graduation parties.
Thanks for showing us your neck of the woods. Happy that you’re loved by the locals. Wished you wore a panda hat when walking through the bamboo forest! :D
Such a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of those big cities. What village/ town/ province do you now live in? I am guessing SW China. How do you get to work and where is work?
That bird is the "phoenix". It represents power sent from the heavens to the Empress. If a phoenix was used to decorate a house it symbolized that loyalty and honesty were in the people that lived there.
The statue in that park is a phoenix. It is associated with good fortune, prosperity, and the power of transformation. I am of Chinese descent and was not born / raised in China. My parents were born / raised in China, they told me about our heritage and some folk lore. Especially don’t desecrate / disrespect their gods, temples and the area at their home / office used for praying / blessing. There are a lot of people in the rural areas who still practice the old ways.
Your video production just keeps getting better better, loveit. I love to see the chickens down here too, and the cows. For us the best part is when we approach the enclosed area, (byre for cows, fenced off for chickens) and the 'inmates' all surge forward to see us. Chickens think we are there to feed them, cows think we are there to let them out for their daily walk. Of course it doesn't happen every time. We also had a 'high five' with a lizard once, still trying to repeat that experience.
I love your life choice, Katherine, what an adorable place ! I hope you'll consider organizing tours in your area for travellers and tourists. I'd love to visit this place :)
That statue is an interpretation of a phoenix rising from the ashes. Where I was born in China, now living in NYC, a mini bamboo forrest surrounds our village.

So beautiful to take a daily walk in this awesome environment!. It is peaceful and the people who lives nearby looks so friendly and calm. The right place to relax after a day of work! Thank you very much.
Just completed a marathon of all of Katherine's videos, from the very first one in Inner Mongolia to this latest. Wow, what a channel! Thank you for presenting modern China in such an intimate and fresh way. The blend of humor, stunning cinematography, and stories of daily life - both Katherine's and the villagers' - made me feel like I was part of the journey. Best wishes for your rural life. Eagerly awaiting your upcoming videos!
glad you like the videos, more coming soon! ironically another Inner Mongolia video is on the way, I just stopped by there for a day during a work trip to Beijing, it's in line to be edited, stay tuned LOL
SE rural China (which is my birthplace) is criminally under represented in culture. An example is the movie “To Live”, which was set in Northern China, even though the original novel was in SE. Lots have changed since my childhood over 30 years ago, but lots haven’t. Thanks for making these videos for us! You may not know how special they are to ppl like me!

Beautiful land for daily strolls, glad to see you're loving it. Places like that are what my wife wants to see when I finally take her to go and see China, but they're too rural for my taste. To each his/her own.
Katherine, once you go to the countryside and natural scenery, the smile on your face will be very real and full. I can see that you really love nature. I hope you live happily in your new home and countryside in China.
When i saw the bamboos, somehow the movie " crouching tiger hidden dragon " came to my mind. When i saw the chickens crossing the road, i asked myself, yes why did those chickens cross the road? Silly me 😂😂😂. Love from Canada.
Hi Katherine. I just stumbled upon your vlog. Thank you for sharing your beautiful rural walks, the heartwarming people of the village along the way. Love the zen vibes from the bamboo forest and tea gardens. The natural melodies from the geese, chickens and dogs is wonderful. Seeing your vlogs inspires me to wanna retire in rural China. Usualy bamboo forests have lots of snakes. Aren't you afraid? By the way it looks cold and misty, sort of like Ireland. Scenery is beautiful, I love a walk in such an environment, reflect on life and I'm very satisfied. Will that village have snow? Guess we're gonna have to wait for your future posts.
You sitting on the rock acting the avatar with the bear beanie is cute. Your walk reveals the real demographics of rural china and who provides. It's true the luscious bended full of rice grains stalks are a thing of beauty. I wonder if the farmers can rotate 2 or possibly 3 rice crops yields per year? Nice intro to your neighbourhood and didn't know small monk with quizzical can float on plastic bike, so profound😜 Noticed for the 2nd time your silver play button at your office corner, so subtle blend😂Who is the silent partner in crime Katherine?
Hi Katherine very impressed with your China vlogs and most envious of your ability to speak Mandarin so well. @kats_journey_east Yes, some people use mugwood while others use jersey cudweed. Different places may have different methods, but finally Maci is always green.🤣
You can raise turkeys in lieu of geese. Turkeys are much mild-mannered than geese and you can eat them during festive times like right now. Happy Thanksgiving and cheers everybody!
No, there are few snakes in bamboo forests. The place she lives, it is very rare to have snow. Winter is still quite mild, the temperatures are mostly in teens.
