I have studied deadly fire after deadly fire and they all share one thing: Owner shortcuts resulting in lack of safety for fire victims, I have to say, it is time to fix that, Before all else, Club owners, Business owners, etc, should place the needs of their customers and employees above money, Add the sprinklers and the fire doors! Do not lock fire doors! Do not bar fire doors from public use during a Fire! Use none-flammable materials and do everything you can to protect those who work in our use your facilities..

i would love to know who the heck is ytelling her and other survivors to "get over it?" are you serious? get over it? how do you get over it when you look in the mirror each day and see what you see? how do you get over it when you run into someone else that was there? how do you get over it when you now have disablilities? whoever said that is a freak, and needs some much needed karma. shame on so many people!

shelley noname I agree, that’s crazy. 100 people died and 200 people were injured due to the fire that happened almost 15 years ago and telling survivors to “get over it” I find it Fucking ridiculous for someone to say

I wasn't there that fateful day, but had I known Great White was playing there in Rhode Island, I would have most likely been there. I was a huge fan in the 80's. I often think about the "What if I had gone that night" scenario. I probably wouldn't be here to post this comment. My heart goes out to the families and friends of those lost and injured in that horrible fire. 18 seconds was basically all those people had to escape that fire unharmed. 18 seconds determined life, death, or disfigurement. 18 seconds, that's not much time. Never put your faith in those that are in control of your safety. Check your surroundings, assess your options, and be in as much control of your own safety as possible.

I never stole so much as gum as a kid, buy I'd risk jail to steal the box labeled: "Danger: explosives" right by the stage if I could go back in time.

You have such a good attitude. I am glad you were able to survive, not only the fire but the surgeries and rehab.
Keep going forward with your life! I'm praying you have seen the worst of it.

The brothers and that lush barfly who prevented even their own wife from getting out that door. Apparently THEY used it, tho. Completely unharmed. Where's the justice, huh?

It's DISGUSTING her city CHARGES her for her injuries, when THEY caused them!! I had to read that twice in an article.
I'd be off overseas, looking for a new country. No joke.

i remember hearing about this fire in 2002 im from Oklahoma so i didnt pay much attention. but this station came up on my phone it's really interesting and sad. now it feels real looking at the stories. it's a major injustice that the bastard Derderians got away with murder of 100 people and 200 fire victims and their free and rich

Anyone that would tell these brave survivor's to "get over it" is severely lacking in empathy and needs to rethink this entire tragedy.

more i rea. d on topic more it seems even the band was setup. nightclub was at loss going out of business and cllsing the atm machine no money in it. all the lighting and stage equipment is handled by a group and has to go through licensing and safety checks. best thing leftover band members can do is donate money to charities. band doesnt build stage they have road crew and safety ppl.. tho it seems water and microphones electricute lot of band members. I hope we learn from this one thing committee or group needed safety checks inspection wasnt done properly, nightclub insurance? band insurance? were exits blocked? we can learn so it doesnt keep happening.

    • @lilachoney

building materials of clubs, windows, exits, sprinkler system.. lot of things dont add up between nightclub owners and stage safety inspection team

Amen. If I wax there I definitely would’ve been dead because I would’ve been drunk and slow to react and you literally had less than 2 minutes to get out. This hits close to home because I’ve been to hundreds of shows at venues just like this and a few in Rhode Island too. We must all never forget and all bands and club owners need to learn from this. I am praying they did

Sure it does. Barylick implied and said flat-out that certain places were treated differently than others. Then the city jumped in so nobody would bother poor Denis Laroque (sp). Much less shoot him, as I'm.sure they wanted to do.
That he's pretty much rich according to that account and I've yet to know a city worker who's flat-out rich, you connect the pieces for yourself.

BULL. It's YOUR band, your bar, YOIR PROBLEM, PERIOD!
I've been the lead in a band. Once I smelled smoke and nobody played sh*t in the dive much like this, til I figured out it was Mexicans using paper to start a barbecue! It got in the intake fans.
Had anyone been hurt with even a splinter, I'd never forgive myself if it were my show! Even the SOUND guy. He worked for the bar, I think. Had I seen that place as was, I'd take the cables and go home. Good luck trying to get new Speak-ons (blue, locking cables) for the PA at 11 at night. Tho some speakers have both 1/4 and Speak-ons. JBL definitely did. I have some PA monitors from that era (1997).
Tho for all thr scummy thieves around lately, where was one when you need it to steal the box labeled DANGER: EXPLOSIVES? I neved stole even gum as a kid, but I'd risk jail to go back in time with a can of mace, gas you-know-who blocking the stage door, and walk off with the box.
Denis Laroque should be a BILLION % 1st in line for this reason. He DEFINITELY KNEW and FAILED TO ACT. So, someone was obviously getting paid.
If he were a man, he would have done a Dan Biechle and had the balls to be blunt about what he did.
Foam salesguy ALSO had to know.
Brothers should have done BASIC research and used the right stuff (at the VERY least, still EXTREMELY flammable and NOT CHEAP) and bought 38k of sprinklers over a 60k sound system b/c they hurt the guy who owned the LAST PA they had.
In fact, they were proud of that and kept the letter! It was untouched in the office, i think.
All that is in Barylick's Killer Show and Gina Russo's book. Trial by Fire is basically a (snow, pick another word that rhymes here) job. There's zero account of anyone else being any kind of hero minus Biechle. One brother ran to grab cash from a til drawer, running PAST people burning to death in HIS bar!
Slimebag didn't even OWN it! Villanova/Triton did! Morons paid 4k a MONTH for a dumpy firetrap AND had to pay all building expenses! In 2003!
In that way, they SHOULD know wtf is going on, on THEIR property. Especially as it was public.
The brothers INTENTIONALLY PUT flammable crap on the walls. Plus glue and spray paint! At no point did they even try to set some on fire outside, JIC, even.
There's ZERO account the brothers tried to help anyone. MAYBE the guitarist went back for his friend in a wheelchair, but nobody knows. No other band members did a damn thing. In FACT, JR was PROMOTING his TOUR, WHILE THE BUILDING WAS ON FIRE!
That's just disgusting and I can't imagine what drugs you could be on to even GO there mentally. The worst drunk/addict I've ever met, would sober right TF up on seeing this one. Not JR. He's wandering around in post fire interviews, drunk as a lord.
Threw DB to the wolves to save his own a**. Classy guy. Be sure to buy his records.
It's all in Killer Show and Gina Russo's book.
TBF is just a commercial. Like "If I did it" when OJ...
