Agreed. Love his giving energy, his philosophizing and “big picture” way if looking at things, his use of metaphor and poetic language, along with his killer playing.
Eric Gales just completely inspires me , what an incredible guitarist and music artist ! thanks Eric for supplying us w/ endless inspiration and riffs and wonderful music !
Man this is one of the best artist interviews ever. Such a humble dude to share that great advice to other musicians, and encourage others cats to stay original. Thank you brother Eric!
I met Eric's brother Eugene one day years ago. at a music store in Memphis. I was noodling around playing some bluesy chops and checking out an amp. He approached me and asked me to sit in at BB Kings the upcoming Friday night, and I did. What a killer night for me. The most memorable moment of the evening is when Eric showed up and sat in. He was going through hard times, but his playing didn't appear to be hindered one bit. He blew the roof off the place. I remember so many great players at that time in Memphis. Eric always seemed to have something special that just stood out. Look at him now!! What a great interview!
One of the BEST dudes ever! From what I can tell. I never met him, but EVERYTHING I’ve ever seen of him, he’s been humble down to earth, and just a good kind soul! OH YEAH! And he fucking RIPS on the git-fiddle!!!
Never ceases to amaze me. That's a guitar being played upside down, folks. Yes, he's left handed, but don't miss those strings in reverse order. Just. WOW!
hes awesome live.love his style and hes an exceptional human being.like he said...we are all one human race....and if you dont agree with that than you are the problem.so proud of you getting sober.rock on bro.god bless you eric.hope you get that nomination tuesday
So the translation to what he's saying is that he learned the traditional stuff, a LOT of traditional stuff.........then he did super polymerization on all the styles..........then he went ultra instinct. And it all culminates in "Free yo' mind, Neo." This guy is like a Batman of guitar. He studied so many styles that he doesn't have a particular one anymore. He just has his own.
Eric, you're a great player and a cool dude. I have the variety of influences too - Jazz, Rock, Pop, Christian, old school R&B, bluegrass. I think embracing all positive music grows you as a musician. I taught my nephew lefty (I'm a righty) with the strings reversed (low E on top), what made you play without flipping the strings? I know Dick Dale did that too, it must have been harder to learn from others coming up.
an old friend (Bob,who plays guitar, as do I, but he's really good)of mine got me out to see Eric at the Original House of Blues about 20 years or so ago. he was obviously highly talented, but why don't I have a memory of pestering Bob 'cause I couldn't wrap my head around playing that way? only recently, I was saying "I love Albert King, but HOW does he play that way?!!" but these days, especially seeing Eric again doing it his way, I realize notes are still notes. the blue ones will always be blue, & fingers are fingers. it's the "which way is up?" thing I can't get. but someone who can't play an E major....they have to be really good(like Eric here),because they have to make essentially, their own type of music.
AMEN, ALL OF US R HERE, Y NOT PUT US ALL TOGETHER TO SEE WHAT COME OUT, NOT IN BED, BUT IN A PLACE WHERE WE COME TOGETHER TO TALK ABOUT THE ISSUES THAT WE ALL ARE FACING AS HUMAN BEINGS
Eric is a real musician who has the goods! Much like Gatemouth Brown could play many genres of music and be real and authentic! But Eric has ears and Chops!
@@Sasketchejuana_man yeah, i totally get that. Kind of like tabs which I can follow easily. But, there's something about having always watched people's fingers move a certain direction. Watching him move his fingers "backward" (for lack of a better term) throws me off. I'm so used to watching someone play with the low strings up top, it ties my head in a knot.
Anyone can be a great musician, but not anyone can be a great athlete. His game is chord substitution. Good guitarists never explain their game. They obsucate. They make it appear complicated. It's really about "look how great I am."
Anyone can be a great athlete, but not everyone can be a great musician. Their game is building up form and perfecting technique of individual stroke. And they are paid millions for "look how great I am".
@@FunkadelicPancho Anyone can be a great guitarist. That's why guitar-gods don't teach. Anyone can't be the fastest runner. Anyone can't do the most pushups. Guitar magazines are really interested in selling ad space to manufacturers, not helping us become great guitarists.
Eric Gales is the man! Such a humble dude.
What a beautiful dude. So wonderful to have this musician in our world.
Completely agree.. talk about unique*

Fantastic player, beautiful human being.
Eric, such an inspiration! This is my guy! You had the crown before you knew there was a crown!
No one has ever said it better. He's an inspiring human being and one of the greatest guitarists of all time.
What a generous gift…thank you. That’s creation in the most amazing way.

Thanks for this!
Too good to be big.

Damn the advice at the end of that really hit me hard.
I think the reason why I relate to EG is that I feel the same way he does when it comes to his playing.

"Learn everything"
I wish I could set down with Eric, he is such fun, I could jam all day with him
This is why I don't try to be a clone of someone else. A lot of guitar players chasing someone else's sound. You are you not everybody else.

Fun fact the way he handle the guitar Is the same way Guitar pro show U the Guitar view Tab 🎸 🎼
My simple brain has to flip the screen upside-down to roughly understand what he's doing
its actually easy to see what hes doing if youre right handed becauses it looks like it would if you were looking down at your own fretboard.
@@Sasketchejuana_man yeah, but his strings are upside-down
@@maybeyoureright4334 when you look down at your strings from above it looks the same way.

If I see what I think I see, he is playing upside down backwards.
Correct. He took a regular right handed guitar and flipped it over to play left. He kept the strings as if it’s right hand.
Now that’s real playing…people have a tendency to over analyze things
アメリカの松崎茂やな👍
Learn the seven notes of music within any key then go from there I would say
Please, rotate the fretboard 🤣🤣🤣

I don't think he tried to obfuscate or make it seem complicated.
In athletics as well as music, it's just easier for some people. Eric isn't obfuscating, he's just a natural.
