Great, great video! The first rye that I ever tried was Old Overholt. I completely agree with Trenton's comments on that bottle and brand.
I just want to tell you that a friend of mine asked advice for what bourbon to get her boyfriend for Christmas. I shared two of your videos that covered the price range she was considering. She loved them. Keep up the great work!
Also, I am in my 50s. My dad just passed away this year. He was also old school regarding drinking. Kurt, when you described your mom, it reminded me much of my dad and his folks. I think the fact that I didn't start drinking until I was an adult and that I drink responsibly gave him peace about the issue. God bless you all, especially your SLB mother.
Been drinking the reg Old Overholt as a low price rye for years, also alternate with OF and WT as low cost rye alternatives. The 10 yr Overholt is sitting on the shelf at 99 here in Tex…may have to go rescue one today! Thanks! Merry Christmas 🎁

Want to try the Old Overholt someday but my favorite rye right now, mixed or straight up, is Old Forester.

I bought a bottle of the old overholdt for a buddy and he let me crack it. It’s very familiar and drinks under its proof but there’s a very inviting flavor that makes you want more. It’s really good.
A few days ago, I was able to get in my hands, a bottle of my favorite Rye and overall whiskey, that being Pikesville Rye. Only the second one I've seen in about 5 years, and its as delicious as I remembered it. 🤤🤣

?Thoughts - when you are doing things like Ryes could you please provide the mash bills ? I tend to lean into very high rye products and I tend to agree w/Trenton a lot of the time, so if I want to try something you guys like, that may well play into that decision. Thanks for all you guys do.

Trenton, Old Overholt 114 is a phenomenal 4 year rye that is $25 in my area! Would love to try the 10 year, but the 114 is hard to beat for the price
Really want a 12 Year Bourbon blind. Knob Creek, Wild Turkey, Evan Williams (I think I've heard you talk about having a bottle), and Maker's Mark Cellar Aged. Could throw Russell's 13 in there if need be even tho it's a year older.

I got the Michters Toasted a few weeks ago in a store lottery. It's by far my best rye, it's phenomenal.
I tried Barrell Rye batch 4 last week. It was a wow for me. Damn good rye!

Doesn't seem to be in my area yet. It's been on watch list ever since I learned it would be released in like April. Almost bought it online for 100+20 in shipping last night but I really don't like buying bottles online.

Love to see you do it again a few days later. This is said by a lot of Whiskey Tubers, and I always feel like that would be a good show.
A few ideas. Best Scotch, best whatever whiskey (American, Canadian, Irish, etc), best non-whiskey (rum, gin, etc).
I’m glad that Overhult 10 year old won. I got it for $99.00 and passed on the Parker’s Heritage this years which was $400 at my local liquor store. 🎉

I am a huge fan of the Old Overholt 10yr! I think it is very underrated, it is very complex and delicious! And the price point is amazing esp for a 10yr CS rye! Get outta here! And to have it beat out some very allocated whiskeys is amazing!

Cant wait for OG SLB!! I would suggest putting a bottom Shelfer Bottle-in-Bond in the mix for kicks. Benchmark Bib, Old Bardstown Bib, Evan Williams Bib. I would recommend to not put scotch in the mix. I know Kurt was thinking of it. That will stand out way too much and not do it any justice. At least with the Bib, it might bump out one of the others in a surprise turn.

My wife doesn’t even now how much alcohol I have collected since 2020 when the pandemic hit. It’s all hidden underneath the basement stairs (317 bottles and counting). I’ll know she will know ones we move to a bigger house (god willing) in two years.😅

If only Old Overholt 10 becomes more available... Its a $100 bottle already trading up above SRP. When you compare it to the price of JD SBBP that's not great. Sure its a 10 year age statement but I find Ryes to hit their sweet spot at the 6-7 year mark anyway, like the juice in JD SBBPs. If the mashbill is heavy corn then a longer age statement does help because it really takes on more of the sweet tannin and kills more of that corn graininess leaving you with a sweet and spicy rye as compared to the younger ones that are mostly spice (low corn) or rough/grainy and spicy (high corn).
I know it's another "celebrity" spirit, but have you guys tried the Knobel Rye, endorsed by Mike Rowe? I think it's really, really good! I'd send ya'll a sample, but I can't figure out where to send it...

Sadly it’s hard to find any of these bottles on shelves, and the ones you will find will be full secondary. The Michter’s and Jack will run me $350-$500 in Los Angeles. The Fiddler is no place to be found in stores or online, it must have been a really small run.
