Not a West Ham fan but its 100% a major trophy in my eyes! Its a European competition and however you dress it up, you still have to beat other good European clubs to win it. Teams who are in the Europa League drop into it at one point making it even more difficult to win. Winner of UECL gets to go into Pot 1 of the Europa.
To get into the comp you still have to either win the Carabao (which itself is defined as a major trophy) or finishing 7th (and to finish 7th you've got to better 1 of Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd, Newcastle and Spurs - all seen as big clubs who will want top 4 every year)
For a team like West Ham, Villa (who are in it next year), or a Palace, Fulham, Brentford and so on -- they'd love to win this and would be huge for them if they did.

As a West Ham fan, I can't even begin to describe how amazing last night was. That feeling of disbelief Smiv mentions? It's still there.I still cannot believe I've finally seen my team win something!
I've seen a lot of fans from bigger teams today on social media trying to write this off or discredit it by saying things like "it's a Mickey Mouse trophy" or "you can't call yourself Champions of Europe because it's only the 3rd tier tournament" etc etc....I don't care. We ARE Champions of Europe, and no-one can take that away from us!
Lets face it, West Ham are probably never gonna be in the Champions League, and if we ever did somehow sneak into that competition, we're even less likely to win it. Chelsea fans, United fans, Liverpool fans (even to an extent, City fans) have become so used to being in and competing in the Champions League that they've almost become desensitized to it. It's normal for them.
They view the Conference League or the Europa League as being "beneath" them...well, cool. It's not for you, then. It's for teams like us, who don't get to win things, who view being in Europe as special, and I can tell you for a fact, every West Ham fan has got the BIGGEST smile on their face right now, and will do for a long time! This......was special!!

Very well said. I am a Liverpool supporter and i agree with your sentiments, 2nd tier if not 3rd tier European Tournament is view as massive or major to clubs that are less popular or famous because they have to fought very hard to qualify for the game.
Big clubs which got used to play in the top tier, they might face transition period one day but manage to qualify either 2 of the lower tier competition will feel what its like for the less known clubs.

One of the best takes I've seen on the Conference League is that it gives teams that cannot compete against the power houses in their domestic leagues a chance to experience a European campaign. It's beautiful in its own way. Fans of mid table clubs need that experience because seasons after season of finishing mid table sucks the joy out of football after 10-15 seasons of the same thing over and over again.

I started following football back in 2015, it was due to my parents getting me FIFA 15 for christmas. For the longest time I didn't support a specific team. In 2018 I remember seen an article from ESPN about Mark Noble getting into it with a fan that stormed the field. When I read that I started following West Ham as much as I can. Got the jersey that year and tried to learn as much of the history of the team as I could. Only downside is that where I live in the US there aren't that many West Ham fans close to where I could join and watch the game last night.
But I felt like I was there with all of the Hammers in Prague when we won last night. Absolutely unreal. Hopefully more are on the way aswell.

No one back then thought the Cup Winners cup and UEFA cup were inferior competitions. If you think the Europa Lg or the Europa Conf Lg is inferior, you could make the argument that the Champions Lg itself is watered down -- you could be champions of Europe but not even champion of your own domestic league. Definitely a major trophy. I am well annoyed by English fans, like the likes of a Mark Goldbridge and others, mucking the competition off. It is great that teams all over Europe, who are generally not able to play european football in the CL and EL now have a European competition. These teams are pivotal for football. The premier league is as big as it is partially because they sold their soul to investors allowing them to buy out all other leagues. But those leagues are what make football so great. The grassroots, the fan-culture, the real football, all played outside of the premier league. The conference league is great because it gives these clubs and fans a stage. West Ham did an amazing job. Well deserved. Amazing club. Not normally in Europe. And look at them now. Just amazing really.

Friendly rivalries are healthy, but the hatred stuff is just childish nonsense. All fans share a mutual love of their own club. I've been lucky enough to see us win a few trophies in my lifetime, but let's face it, that's not why we start supporting a club. Mostly it's geography and family ties.. The clubs I worry about these days are the State-backed ones like City and Newcastle and the American-owned ones who want to change OUR national sport to suit THEIR financial interests. i think what legitimizes the trophy is Roma (who won the conference league last year) made it to the europa league final this year and west ham made it to the europa league semifinal last year won the conference league this year. like its not like these are small clubs that are winning it

If anyone can claim the Milk Cup or whatever it’s called is considered a major trophy when even sides in championship put out weakened sides then how can this be anything other than a major trophy.
The greedy6 plus now Newcastle are financially beyond the rest competing with for any sustainable period and I’m sure had spurs managed a top 7 finish they’d take this serious just as morinho did last year
To be a big club you need to win things not just have a few bob more than everyone else.

Europa Conference league is a great trophy it was needed. Look how much it meant to fiorentina as well they were a historically big side. Last year it meant so much to roma mourinho was in years. It's a reward for a top 6 top 7 finish which meant nothing before this competition was invented

Huddersfield Fan- winning the playoff final against Reading in 2017 was an amazing feeling. Winning penalty in my end, a feeling il never forget. On the other side, was also there when we lost against Forest in the playoff final. Not the greatest feeling in the world but thats part of the game that we all love.

If the Charity Shield is a trophy worth mentioning, I'm sure this one is too! I think it's all relative. Sure, it's not the CL, but West Ham aren't at that level at the moment. For Man City, this wouldn't have been such a big deal (though they'd still have celebrated!) but for teams that haven't won anything in decades - that's what the competition was made for. West Ham invested a lot of time and effort into the competition, and sacrificed some league form, and at that point, you want to win the thing, not burn out in a final. Make no mistake, their opponents last night wanted that glory for themselves!

The more European football, the better. Britain became a nasty insular place after Brexit, and English fans regularly going abroad broadens their horizons and - when they behave - shows Europeans that English people aren't that bad. For me, the Conference League is European football's third competition - same level as the Carabao Cup and old UEFA Cup.

@@alistairgourlay9443 A West Ham fan threw a vape stick that struck a Fiorentina player. Disgraceful behaviour - but only one West Ham fan got arrested yesterday, compared to two-dozen Fiorentina fans. It was Alkmaar fans three weeks ago. Europe now has a neo-Nazi hooligan problem - something England dealt with years ago.

We often get ‘I bet you wish you’d stayed in the Prem and not won the cup’ and that couldn’t be further from the truth (yes, even with all the crap we have going on right now…). We’ll never forget that day, our name is on that cup forever. I was the same watching the game last night and had a smile on my face for seeing those West Ham fans celebrate. It’s such a special, unique feeling and is exactly what football is all about.

Thing is I can’t stand Arsenal more than spurs too many Arsenal fans still holding onto the past and can’t get over the fact they did a spurs this year 😂 But the fact we’re the only London club to win a trophy this year still hasn’t snuck in ⚒️. Still moyes out though. As a man utd fan, I agree with this! Even with the lack of trophies in recent history, I still have almost an expectation of at least one trophy a season! The expectation is to win at United, not to finish in top 6 or get out of the group stage in champions league, so I definitely can agree with Smiv here where for the “bigger clubs”, trophies and finals may not have the buzz or butterflies feeling

Great video, Smiv, and you're dead right about that feeling. I last had it as an 18 year old when we won the FA Cup in 1980, and it's all the stronger for having to wait until I'm 61 for it to return. But the other part of it is, probably like many West Ham fans of a similar age, I brought my kids up into the faith, and I've almost felt guilty about that as one crap season has followed another, all the way through into their 30s. We've had a few decent moments, of course, but to see them, at long last, enjoy that winning feeling for themselves makes it even better.

I think that there's something quite telling about the fact that only two London clubs are going to be participating in European football next season.
To sum up, 8 English Premier League clubs are involved in European club competitions in season 23/24.
    Those being,
UCL: City, Arsenal, Man Utd & Newcastle
Europa: Liverpool, Brighton & West Ham.
    Conference: Aston Villa
    No Tottenham, No Chelsea.
