I like the tell-tale ribbons/tape attached to the exhaust and fans! You can really tell how hard the unit is working…should be standard! A handsome locomotive! 🤩
I am willing to stake my professional reputation on this statement: The F40 will go down in history as the best commuter diesel locomotive in North American history. That said, I’m disappointed there was never a program to re-engine these with a 710-12.
@@greyfoxtrains3244 If it wasn't for GE marketing the P40 and P42 so aggressively we would have likely seen rebuilt F40PHs on Amtrak. Even the Genesis units have exceeded their expectations.
Same thing happened to 1070 when it started testing on September 21, 2022, it was painted black when it started testing then it got purple paint which is the primary MBTA color of the commuter rail just before shipping back to Boston on April 7, 2023. August 27, 2024: Nearly 10 months since the last F40 tested at Erie, MBTX 1067 was completed in a black heritage paint scheme like 1033 and has started testing.
Any updates on 1027, 1030, 1034, 1036, 1055, 1059, 1071, and 1072? I know 1059 is done rebuild but not testing yet. I’m sure they will be done before the MP36 rebuild or overhaul starts. I’m glad 1067 is on the test run!

@johncamp2567 Thise are so they ca see them working without climbing up on it. It is pretty sharp in black
Wow, an EMD F40PH being rebuilt? Awesome video! Have a great day.
@@WH_Railfan84 Thanks! You too!
Great testing views!
@@chuxproductions1090 Thanks!
ITS ALIVE! i completely forgot this unit existed
I did too. 1034 was getting all the attention last I knew.

The 645 had a better design for commuter service. They tried the idea once.
@@stephankoenig5481Yeah, F40s are still better preformnce wise than the F59PH
@@OceanStateRail F40s have a proven reliability.
While I love to see forward progress and new designs like the SC44, I will totally agree with your assessment of the F40 and it’s place in history.

Interesting, I expected 1059 first since its painted and looks ready to go

They are all in various states of completion. We will see more of them in the coming months as they are ready for tests.
Any More MBTA Going To Be Testing
Yes
Any videos with the Horn?
Not this trip. It only went through once.
If I recall, 1033 was the last one to test in November. Wow, nearly 10 months since the last unit tested, what was the hold up?
Design revisions
Bring them back. Get rid of the hideous Challengers.
It may be a heritage unit
In recent times most test in the base color black before getting full paint.
Let's hope it'll be a heritage unit.
Another neat video and catch. Have a wonderful upcoming Thursday.(Steve)

They should just deliver it to MBTA in that all black!
Why would they do that?

Does the locomotive retain its EMD engine?
@billmorrison3714 yes it does. Just overhauled.
Thank God for that love emd

Nice i wonder what the horn sounds like
not much different from the rest of the fleet.
Probably gonna sound pathetic like the 1056 lol
Or worse, like 1029 or 1057
Did they finally find a way to make these things accelerate faster? All the wabtec rebuilds are poor performing in the acceleration.
@@easternroutemainlinevideos6823 They seem better than before.
Pulling a loco is different than pulling 6 car commuters train.
So is thing gonna have 6 axles or does the c mean some thing else ?
It has a Caterpillar powered HEP unit to power the train.
@@stephankoenig5481 ok
1:30 was that a push test? and was that with all its got😬
It was a slow initial push. It wasn't everything until about a quarter mile down.
