The Monster anime is really accurate to the manga. I think most people would recommend you 20th Century Boys next but I personally adore Billy Bat so I'd read that first. Either way you're in for a great time
Currently I'm reading 20th century, pluto, monster, and I've just started Billy bat. So far pluto is my favorite because he conveys what his characters are going through with the use of a few panels . His tightened up his story telling but it's so efficiently done, I'm blown away. Can't believe it's taken me so long to read these gems.
Urasawa is my fave.If I had to criticize something about his work though,I'd say a)he very rarely shades his characters,I'd like if he did it more and b)sometimes his stories are too ambitious for their own good(especially 20th century boys and Billy Bat). Still, absolute legend though.
i think thats why its so intruiging. its obviously sometimes a little more than he can handle but he obviously knows writing so well it would be boring to do something that wouldnt challenge him. Like monster is a masterpiece but the more crazier works tend to appeal more to me because of that aspect
@@SeaGee how about you do a Q&A in the future, i love your channel and also believe it s criminally underrated but i also love how cozzy and warm of a meeting spot it is for all of us fans of Urusawa s work
@doro experience Thanks! I would actually be super excited to do that. I plan to hit 20th Century Boys in the near future so would love to do a big Urasawa Q&A afterward. Thanks again!
Viz seem to be translating a lot of one off volumes from Urasawa...but still not translating this series to print? Not sure why that is....hopefully it will come soon... maybe when the 20cent boys perfect edition run concludes.
@@SeaGee I see on amazon that there is a listing for Asadora! Vol. 1... so looks like that is whats next as far as series go from Urasawa...don't know much about it, but have it pre ordered.
Asadora is only about 4 volumes in currently so they might be keeping an up to date English release. I feel like any Urasawa story can happily get my pre-order too!
What god want, end it all, have a rest, leave his problem & move on to something else And they did get it, but it ended the world & man's all right with the world

I thought its wants were different. Like the evil one wanted to bring the world closer to hell hence why it appeared to people like judas and hitler. And the good one wanting to prevent that hell, appearing to people like einstein and kevin goodman. Thats where the whole white or black thing came about, and I’m guessing it was up to the person to decide whether the bat was black or white

Naoki Urasawa is no doubt, one of the most talented comic producer. His portrayal of a wide variety of character's appearance alongside with realistic settings and detailed research of the subject gives a profound immersion within the story. However, his later books become more and more redundant and repetitive, and often ends way too uninteresting as he fails to solve the conspiracy in logic and ends the story with the appearance of some messiah or unidentified superpowers of villains. Personally, billy bat is one that seems to show his downfall as a storyteller. This book tends to show some strong nationalistic views that alleviates the imperial japan when he deals historical fiction for his story. Naoki really enjoys utilizing conspiracies and he used american conspiracies to show their notoriocity and how they plan to harm japan in the past in some of his books, but you can't help but notice how he covers the entire storyline as Japan as an innocent victim in the 60s. The way he uses Eienstein to justify Hitler's image in Billy Bat is kind of questionable on his ethical viewpoint in history. The more i read his stories, the more i feel like his stories are just stuck in the 80s and fail to move forward
Billy Bat, people who don't think it's funny, It's because it's out of focus. It is a work that expresses the life of Naoki Urasawa as a writer. It's not an esoteric work, but the message I want to tell you is simple. It's a story about Billy Bat that he wanted to draw. The author was convinced of his painting (billybat). But he gets confused when he hears that his painting is actually someone's painting. So he digs into the Billy Bat he's trying to draw. I wanted to know what you were trying to draw. And then I paint in a trance. That's what's going to happen. It becomes a painting that someone would have painted even if they hadn't. Later, when I met Billy Bat, I didn't know who he was. After all, I don't know what a Billy Bat is, but I'll keep holding the pen. Then the world will not be destroyed. To him, the world is a reader. sorry for spoilers

Just read all of his works.
Naoki is by far one of the most memorable story creators of these times. Everything is so poignant and inviting.

Yeah it's surprisingly recent! Only finishing in 2016. How good was Pluto though?
